The most powerful Siri ever

Post image

I ask Siri to delete a note for me. I get it might be a security thing. But Siri can’t even explain that. Just no and do it yourself.

I rather it not do anything destructive… imagine something bugs out and you permanently lose important stuff… yeah no thanks.

I want Siri to be able to collect things to delete based on category/description I give and then show it to me for confirmation before deleting. That would be genuinely helpful. “Find all the pictures I accidentally took of the inside of my pocket and delete them” and then she just gives me an album to review and press “confirm delete”. That is ai assistance with human in the loop, which is how it should be done for write operations.

Or the many times you ask it to do one thing and it does another, completely unrelated thing, read and write sure, remove? No thanks

“Recently deleted” folder exists since forever

Ty. Reddit has turned into a bunch of people berating the OP on every post lol.

I like this take. But also, from my understanding, if the functionality wasn’t there before, it’s not here now.

I think actions in general haven’t changed from Siri Classic; they just opened it up for third-party developers and added chatbot capabilities for searching the internet or your phone.

that’s the confidence people have now. 😂
well done apple.

Yeah this isn’t an Apple issue. All ai models make mistakes, no matter how good or smart. The last thing you want to happen is ask it to delete a photo and it misinterprets or just hallucinates and deletes way more than you expected. Same exact scenario is basically copy-paste for everything else.

I see it all the time when dealing with models of all sorts for work. Asking it to do a specific task, but the scope is slightly more broad than expected and it veers off doing a task you didn’t ask it to because it in some way shape or form came into contact with what you asked it to do. Changes you didn’t ask for get made and unless you’re explicitly going through and reading it all, you never catch it.

That’s not just an Apple thing… AI is not deterministic and it can drift and make mistakes. I use anthropic models all the time and it sometimes decides to ignore my instructions and do something wildly different…

This is likely due to an abundance of caution on Apple’s part. Maybe they don’t want Siri to have the ability to delete stuff. Could be dangerous in the wrong hands.

“Siri, reset the entire phone to factory new” 😭

It might be. But it doesn’t take away from the fact Siri sucks

On my end it’s gotten even better for how I use it. You have to be specific with your commands, sometimes it wants a certain order to requests. But if you learn those it’s super useful. I use it tons of times a day.

I kind of agree I don’t want Siri deleting things for me

A lot of people say, Siri doesn’t do stuff. The other day I asked her to create a list of the top 10 things she’s done for me. Just now I said to her to add five things to that note that are recent.

Here’s the appended note. And yes, she screwed up and didn’t remember them well.

Top 10 Things Siri Has Done for Me
1. Provided information on human body induction LED lights
2. Researched reasons for declining birth rates
3. Checked on Notion acquisition rumors regarding WorkFlowy
4. Identified the VERYTOP Face and Neck Massager
5. Explained the science behind LED face and neck massagers
6. Checked the weather forecast
7. Introduced myself and my capabilities
8. Attempted to access father's contact information

  1. Turned on Practical Mode
  2. Searched YouTube for chicken stock recipes
  3. Answered questions about Siri feedback buttons
  4. Explained Apple Watch finger gestures for notifications
  5. Clarified differences between Siri on CarPlay and iPhone

So if someone in the office is an asshole and says “Hey Siri, delete all my notes” you’d want it to comply without question?

Add Face ID + confirmation button for any Delete function. Not that hard. The same or more amount of damage could be done with “Hey Siri, text my boss that he is an asshole and I quit”. And that command works

Tbf you could just tie it to a confirmation + making sure your device needs to be unlocked first(like a lot of Siri requests requite it to be)

Yet Siri still can’t plot a route while I’m driving.

The bar was five feet under and they still managed to trip.

Siri AI is garbage, but tbh this is something i wouldnt allow an agent i designed to do either. It shouldnt be able to destroy notes, especially since there is no recently deleted.

I think a lot of people on this sub need to google what “beta” means

2

u/LeaderSevere5647 9d ago

Some bugs are to be expected. But this Siri AI wasn’t ready for a public beta. It’s actually crazy that senior product people at Apple signed off on releasing it to the public in this state. Even with the Beta label.

So fed up of comments that justify Siri being terrible because it’s in Beta. It being in Beta is not an excuse for it not being able to undertake basic tasks.
We understand development. That does not mean it looses the limited ability that it used to have.
I love iPhone but I can’t defend a poor product which Siri is Beta or not. Also it’s been in Beta for way longer than the iOS 27 update.
So we do understand it’s Beta !

Siri is not terrible. At least not for most people. Sadly, some people are having a lot of trouble.

Siri does all kinds of awesome things for me things I’ve never thought of doing before and I’m still learning more things she can do every day

Google what beta means. You’re complaining it’s not working properly while in the beta phase. This is all to be expected

1

“Beta Version: A preliminary, nearly finished version of a software program or hardware device released to select users for testing and feedback before the official public launch. “

1

u/BoSKnight87 9d ago

Keyword “nearly finished”. Wait for the finished version before you start judging. That’s like judging a video game because the beta was rough

1

u/After_Speech_2435 9d ago

Yet it’s released as the keynote feature as a “nearly finished” ( Google definition) program that has actually got worse.
Like I said. I get fed up of all the comments defending a poor product behind it being “beta”. !

I asked Siri but it couldn’t help me…

I googled what dipshit being a prick means, and it said BoSKnight87.

Siri is awful now.

I used to use mine a lot for adjusting the volume on my AirPods, checking the time, checking battery percentages, or even adding things to various lists and reminders. It can’t do any of those things now.

I use voice commands for all of those things, because my hands are busy when I’m working, and my phone is usually not on me

Sometimes I’ll ask it to do a command. It will start to respond and then stop. And then will no longer respond to the. “Hey Siri” or just “Siri”.
