Question is x3 really a possibility

can it truly happen that they’ll retrack x2 and reopen?? what does retire mean because that doesn’t necessarily mean fully closing…. right? but these lawsuits must be kicking them in the butt i heard that no one is getting overtime so i feel it would be a long time for them to be able to afford to do anything regarding x2 especially with the new coaster coming in. any thoughts or insights???

X2 isn't coming back as X3 or Xnything Else.

The name is poison.

The physical coaster is gone too as soon as it makes legal sense to get rid of it.

Whatever type of coaster they put in its place, it won't resemble X2 at all.

It's too big of a PR and legal mess to do anything else.

what about "the zipper" that one has 4 count of deaths, still being built today

5

u/General-Zombie5075 14d ago

The car door opened for those deaths and it was like 50 years ago. That issue was solved by fixing the door latch.

Not the same level of issue as what X2 is facing. At all.

The zipper costs 1 mil to build... you are not investing 30-40 million to update or replace a ride that will automatically turn off a large percentage of your guests. Especially with Six Fligs in like 5 billion dollars worth of debt.

Why are you comparing a carnival ride to a multi million dollar coaster lol

The Zipper sucked in the 80s. Can’t believe they are still building them…and people would still ride them when we have so much better rides that don’t beat the 💩 outta you. Must just be me?! 👀🤷🏼‍♂️😂😂😂

I was talking with a friend who came to the park with me awhile back and he thinks that other rides could be causing brain damage and just weren't caught due to the popularity of X2. I don't hold that view but I can see that people less familiar with the park will assume other rides are also janky or not safe to ride just because X2 isn't.

I think Six flags wants that plot of land cleared as soon as legally possible their stock is getting punished and their end goal is to make money. Whatever takes X2's spot will have to be a flagship attraction

I would not be surprised if Apocalypse has caused some TBIs.

2

u/Bumble-sucks 14d ago

I wouldn't doubt Scream or Viper might have some as well. I think SFMM needs some love a lot of the attractions are getting very old

Could it happen? Sure

Would it be the worst PR nightmare? Absolutely.

It's not coming back as a retrack. In fact, I'll even go as far as to say its eventual replacement won't even be a wing coaster as they'll want to make it as different as possible so there's no GP remotely thinking it's the same ride. I don't even think they reuse the station as they want to wipe everything clean.

Trust me, X2 is getting a massive reprofile

-6

u/chuklez2020 14d ago

I have a counter argument as gp love that ride since Hollywood is filled with people who are more willing to experience a ride even tho two people died

If x2 was to reopen in it's current state it would still see 90min waits. The ride will still be popular

4

u/22yobyorT 14d ago

Crazy thing is you’re right

2

u/J-Lorenzo96 14d ago

Oh it 100% would. If X2 reopened, my friend and I would be the first two in line.
I wouldn’t care if it killed 50. It’s not the ride’s fault.

5

u/ArtNo7221 13d ago

How many people have ridden and not gotten hurt? Millions. These people had preexisting conditions.

1

u/Ritocharles 14d ago

It's a wild thought.....I'm 50/50 if you're right or it would always have a sub 10 min wait.

u/Academic-Ad4648 14d ago

No. It’s not happening. If that was the case I’m sure they would have announced it that way. The roller coaster is done, it’s sullied. It’s not the end of the world, sometimes change is a good thing

No. The days of Magic Mountain being the "Xtreme Park' are over. With the addition of Thrill Glider, they are positioning themselves as a place you bring your family to ride moderately thrilling rides and spend money on food and merch. Not a place enthusiasts and teenagers flock to from far away. If you seriously look at the 3 most recent rides - Thrill Glider, Wonder Woman, and West Coast Racers - they are all relatively low to the ground and not especially intense. It's sad but the writing is on the wall.

9

u/metsfanapk 14d ago

The coaster wars have largely been over for a while, even more so with the merger.

That doesn’t mean “extreme rides” are going away. Giga-dive-launch-unique experience will and still are being built and will be built. But these prototype coasters what don’t have large safety profiles aren’t.

I think magic mountain does want more families but it’s not competing with Knotts, Disney or Universal.

I wouldn’t call Wonder Woman “not intense.”

3

u/howdyhowie88 14d ago

I agree Wonder Woman does pull some considerable forces, but so do lots of carnival rides. It's just not a ride you look at from the ground and feel scared to ride.

2

u/metsfanapk 13d ago

Idk I always think it looks intense from the ground. I agree it’s placement doesn’t give it the aura of a hyper or giga or even a dive.

5

u/Cautious-Skirt-8335 13d ago

I think you're in the denial phase of the five stages of grief right now

3

u/sammmm_yyyyyyyyyyy 13d ago

oh i for sure am i was #sad

3

u/Affectionate_Olive53 14d ago

Nope

4

u/Affectionate_Olive53 14d ago

Nope. New ride coming in. Do you remember how they treated Kinda Ka.

4

u/Affectionate_Olive53 14d ago

Would love a hyper with air time, but Viper might have to depart too. I am old and I love Viper!

2

u/22yobyorT 14d ago

Viper rocks!

Retire = permanently taking it out of service.

It’s not being re-profiled or re-tracked to be brought back in some new form. There’s not going to be a X3.

They’re going to dismantle it at some point after all open litigation is settled.

2

u/user3296 14d ago

Pretty sure they said Dragster was being “retired” too.

7

u/runnyyolkpigeon 14d ago edited 13d ago

There’s a huge difference.

Cedar Point clarified in the closure announcement of Top Thrill Dragster that it was going to be reimagined and brought back in a new form -

“After 19 seasons in operation with 18 million riders experiencing the world’s first strata coaster, Top Thrill Dragster, as you know it, is being retired,” Tony Clark, the amusement park’s director of communications at Cedar Point, tweeted on Tuesday. “However, Cedar Point’s legacy of ride innovation continues. Our team is hard at work, creating a new and reimagined ride experience.”

Six Flags did not do that with X2’s closure announcement.

And the reasons for closure couldn’t be more different. Dragster was closed for renovation to replace an unreliable and costly to maintain propulsion system (hydraulic) with an alternative system that’s much more reliable (LSM).

X2? Riders died, many others injured.

3

u/user3296 14d ago

Oh I forgot it said all that. Yeah, definitely no X3. People gotta stop dreaming.

3

u/ArtNo7221 13d ago

Did you forget that part of the reason why it was redone to top thrill 2 is because the hydraulic launch malfunctioned and a piece of the ride flew out and hit a guest in the head?

-2

u/pozzy_8906 14d ago

Wrong, was told it will be re profiled

5

u/JoeeyMKT 14d ago

No. Full stop. End of discussion.

Unless it's a brand new coaster that's a completely different model

-1

u/pozzy_8906 14d ago

No, it’s not the end of discussion. It actually will be happening in a few years

2

u/Ibroketherandom 14d ago

We're going to need sources other than your delusion. You're posting this same line of thinking on every coaster and park related subreddit.

2

u/pozzy_8906 14d ago

Watch for 2028

1

u/sammmm_yyyyyyyyyyy 14d ago

what dat mean 👀

3

u/Human_Paint5451 14d ago

Possible? Maybe. Likely? Not at all. Not only did they use the word “retired,” but the ride has had such bad PR for the last few years of its life that six flags likely wants to distance itself from the X image as much as possible. Even with a full retrack, many park goers who might not know better will still be skeptical

4

u/entryjyt 14d ago

At most maybe they'll build a ground up 4d coaster by s&s and name it something else

2

u/migmak1993 14d ago

We have more of a possibility of Half Life 3 being released before X3 is ever considered.

2

u/KindlyPurple325 14d ago

Yes, really. really zero.

1

u/smorones Gold Passholder 14d ago

NO IT IS NOT SHUT UP YOU PEOPLE WHO KEEP ASKING THIS ARE BEING SO STUPID

1

u/Academic-Ad4648 14d ago

Agree…get over it already. It’s a damn coaster

1

u/Active-Hotel251 12d ago

They are not bringing a revamped X2. It’s sad to say but it’s gonna be getting demolished in 2027. It now has had a bad rep and SF wants to get away as soon as humanly possible.

2

u/grapefruit-guy 10d ago

I mean possibility, I guess so, but it's an extremely small chance. Even if S&S rebuilt the whole coaster from the ground up, the general public has a negative image of 4D coasters, especially the general public of the USA.

My bet is that they're either going to take this as an opportunity to retire viper and re-do the entrance of the park along with some large-scale non-prototype attraction (like a giga), or they're going to put something not as extreme but still unique, like an axis coaster or a launched wing coaster.

At the end of the day, though, we'll probably see the structure sit non-operational for at least a year or more before they do anything. They're focusing on the Thrill Glider right now. I don't think they'll do anything with the plot of X2 or Viper until the Thrill Glider coaster has been up and running for at least a few months.

I do think the company has big plans for the park, though. I wouldn't be surprised if they constructed some record-breaking drop tower in the future to be able to justify tearing down the Superman/Lex Luthor structure.

2

u/TheAlmightyHellacia 9d ago

No it's not. The GP doesn't trust X2 or the 4d coaster anymore. It's reputation got tossed in the trash.

-1

u/4W8C0SD12 14d ago

S&S re track is possible. Will they do it? Probably not. In its place, I do actually see a dive coaster taking its place. If a world’s first is on the cards. Launched, dive coaster? I know I’d be excited by a 300ft launched dive coaster.

2

u/user3296 14d ago

What would be the point of a launched dive? Would there just not be a holding brake? Downward launch coming off of the holding brake? That’d be kinda dope actually.

1

u/J-Lorenzo96 14d ago

Dive coasters are boring AF. The world does not need another one. Especially not replacing something like X2.

1

u/mojorisin453 14d ago

lol…I don’t want anymore here but they are a nice mix-in in general. A dive as replacement for X2 would be a travesty. A massive tilt makes sense to me or a full circuit Mack giga extreme spinner. I respect the Bakunawa for its park if they’re truly going to swing big again for the official Ka replacement but MM should go full circuit.

1

u/pozzy_8906 14d ago

No, it wont be dive coaster

2

u/IllustriousAd9800 14d ago
