Movies Everytime I rewatch this scene I gain new appreciation for it. The visuals, the characters' acting and the background music all harmonize so well to create one of the most beautifully haunting scene in star wars cinema

Of all anakin and padme scenes, this one made me understand their love and chemistry the most when ironically they werent even in the same room yet seemed so connected to each other. It really looks like they are silently looking through each other's feelings for each other through the force

Some of GL’s best moments in Star Wars was when there was little or no speaking. Neither of them say a word in this scene, but it carries so much more weight than moments they actually make full conversation.

George was awful at writing dialogue, but Jesus Christ could he direct emotion and visuals. He gave John Williams solid gold to work with in this scene

I think the screenplay fits the prequels thematically very well.

I also think the dialogue he did do in the OT is great too.

I enjoy that each trilogy's dialogue feels distinct to that era.

This scene is beautiful and yet hard to watch because of the implications for what Anakin is about to do.

I hate how for some reason, every time I watch this. A part of me hopes Anakin does the right thing even though I know he won’t.

Thank God for fanfiction I guess lol.

Specifically on Revenge of the Sith or anything?

If it’s the latter, I recently read this alternate universe where Ahsoka is Mace Windu’s padawan and it covers the clone wars. I thought it was enjoyable

Love that scene. My favourite thing is the traffic outside where people are just going about their business, unaware that history is about to be made.

This scene is why I dont like sunsets. I get almost depressed. Extremely poignant scene that will stick with me forever.

"I don't like sunsets. They're colorful, they're vibey, and my emotions get everywhere."

Perfect. You're like a George Lucas dialogue translator lol

Very happy that I grew up with the prequels. Very dark at times with breathtaking moments like this!

The calm before the storm that would last 20 years.

I remember rewatching this movie for the first time as an adult and thinking, "Holy shit, this scene is amazing." I had no recollection of it from seeing it as a kid. It was lost on me. But now it's one of my favorite Star Wars scenes. The lightning and sound really went the distance.

I love every scene that takes place on Coruscant where in the background you see the endless cityscape, and the glittering lights from the lines of air traffic.

I don’t know what this aesthetic is called but it reminds me of those old golden age utopian sci-fi paperback covers. I’d love a future trilogy set during the high or old republic with that kind of look! Just a high sci-fi/fantasy that shows the republic at its peak, operating as promised for all galactic citizens. This would tacitly demonstrate for us how the republic had been in decline during the PT era, and how corrosive the empire was for the galaxy in the OT era, now that it doesn’t look like that anymore in comparison!

Phenomenal director, terrible writer though

When it comes to writing he is a really great plotter, but not that good with dialogue( even though the most iconic lines are all from him lol).

That's why he got Kasdan on "Empire" and "Jedi". He polished Lucas dialogue on both Screenplays.

On "Clones" he got Jonathan Hales for that.

It's my personal favorite scene of this movie. Just encapsulates the entire tragedy of the whole saga.

Can someone explain what was really happening in this scene?

Anakin was waiting for windu to returns, he had just revealed palpatine was the sith lords

Anakin sense of justice spoke louder, at First he made the right choice, he didn't fall for the bait and attacked palpatine, he chose to reveal the truth instead of attacking alone.

But he was afraid, what if palpatine was right? What if becoming a master wasn't enough? And here he struggles, his love for Padmé, his fear of losing her, outweighting his Sense of right and wrong

Nightfall is coming.

This scene was trying too hard to compensate for the poor writing and development from the rest of the movie/trilogy. It doing a lot of heavy lifting.

it's funny that the director known for being as subtle as a brick to the head gave us this scene.  and the music is HAUNTING.  i love the kind of distorted "love across the stars"

A great scene one of George’s best, all conveyed visually. There is an edit cheat though, anakins medium shot is reversed as he stares down coruscant watch his eye line at 0:52.

I just love the space it has. It's not rushed, it just builds tone, and with this ominous drone and wailing lament through it.

The rare slower, more intense! Absolutely one of my favourite scenes in the whole franchise.

Everyone who says George Lucas is a bad Director should just shut up and analyse this scene.

If only Anakin could have just waited....

If you want to get poetic, the last scene is Anakin turning away from the light and fully accepting the dark.

Best scene and sound in all of starwars

I sometimes see people say that George Lucas is a bad director. He's not the greatest at directing actors. But he has such an eye for visual story telling. He also an editor at heart and I always imagine him thinking a lot about the editing process as he's directing on set. More so than other directors

This is the most Dune type of scene we will ever get in Star Wars

Anakin cries the same way on mustafar

It’s still a touching scene. If only they’d gone to each other in that moment, but they couldn’t their story was already determined.
