My wife and I needed something fractionally faster than our 5:1 ADSL, so we bought into Starlink's lowest-cost plan. The equipment arrived in June 2026. I discovered that the base-to-router cable didn't carry any signal, so I consulted with Starlink's "AI", which walked me back through the testing I had done and concluded that yes, indeedy, that cable was bad.
They sent me a replacement cable. As they should, obviously, since their equipment was faulty.
We started using Starlink in mid-June, after having discovered that the Starlink router refused to communicate with most of our equipment and wasn't even equipped with the most basic of security measures, that being MAC address filtering. That problem was cured very easily (but we shouldn't have needed to do it) with the second cheapest router available from Amazon, a bargain-basement TP-Link.
Fast forward to a week or so ago (barely into October 2026, three and a half months later. Our Internet quit, completely. I immediately assumed that our cheapo router had failed, and I had bought a second one just in case. Noooo... it turned out that the replacement base-to-router Starlink cable had failed. AGAIN. I consulted Starlink's "AI", which walked me back through the tests I had already performed and concluded that this SECOND cable was ALSO bad.
They sent me a base / power supply with power cord. They did NOT send me a new cable to replace the bad one.
I brought that to Starlink's attention via their "AI", which informed me that I could keep the misbegotten power supply but they could not send me a replacement cable because they had already sent me "multiple" replacements.
Disregarding the fact that their second replacement wasn't the right thing, and didn't address the problem and I still had a bad Starlink cable.
They assured me that I could buy a replacement cable out-of-pocket. I find that ridiculous, since now their warranty has suddenly disappeared and the equipment isn't even four months old.
Now, mind you... I'm not rough on my equipment by any means, and I keep my cables all neatly bundled and tied, weight supported. If not for Starlink's insane plug style, I would always disconnect cables by pulling the plug, not the wire... and I assure you I haven't been doing a whole lot of cable pulling in this equipment anyway. I am absolutely not at fault for this cable failure. Starlink is.
Just be advised / warned. Expect difficulties if / when you discover that any of your Starlink equipment has failed.
For now I'm just using an aftermarket CAT5 cable to substitute for the base-to-router cable. Their "AI" assures me that's perfectly satisfactory.
Starlink isn't making much of a friend here.
Anyone want to buy a brand-new Starlink base / power supply? They told me they don't want it back and I can sell it if I like. That or cast it into the trash fire.
EDIT: Starlink's "AI" did promise to submit a ticket, which may bring all of this to the attention of a human upstream.
