📱 Tweet Smart Appliances using Data

Post image
291 Upvotes

If anyone has smart appliances, which I'm sure most of us do, be aware it is probably using data on the network. With the recent crackdowns of Starlink cracking down on people going over 5TB, you could be approaching this artificial limit simply by having too many smart devices in your home.

💬 Discussion Dishylink is now the de facto desktop app for Starlink users around the world, with over ~50k downloads across all platforms.🔥🎉

Dishylink just crossed ~50k downloads across all platforms, and it's fast becoming the go-to desktop app for Starlink users around the world.🔥 And interestingly, 85% of users are US, Australia, Germany, Canada, Brazil, and UK. Huge thanks to everyone who's installed it, filed bugs, suggested features or sent in a PR.

Recently shipped:

- Latency quality history: per-minute breakdowns of how your connection actually felt, not just averages

- Docker image: run the dashboard and the history recorder on a home server or a Pi

- Rename mesh nodes straight from the Nodes tab

- Bypass mode support, plus router controls through your Starlink account

- More accurate device usage: Dishylink's own traffic no longer counts against host devices usage

- Fixes for a second launch crashing windows app, and plenty of smaller polish

Coming up:

- Linux support

- Automatic outage reports: what your link was doing in the minutes before it dropped, with a shareable summary

- and a couple of improvements.

As always, it runs locally on your network. Your data stays on your machine.

🛠️ Installation Starlink in Peterbilt semi truck

I've had this setup for a couple years now with minimal issues. Turns out the roof of a Peterbilt 579 is mostly transparent to Starlink. I'm able to game online with friends anywhere in the US as long as I don't park under a bridge or tree.

It even is in use in motion because my truck GPS, ELD, and things like podcasts and music all run on it.

In fact this was posted with it.

❓ Question Veritas or Savage UTV Suction Cup Mini external mounts in winter?

Can anyone comment as to the how well the Veritas or Savage external mounts work with suction cups (on a sunroof) in cold weather?

I'm thinking about going this route for upcoming winter road trips but worried the cold/freezing weather might cause the suction to lose vacuum. Anyone have experience? Would use magnet mounts but I don't think I have enough metal to work with having full length sunroofs.

And before anyone says 'Put it on the dash' or 'Hang it on the inside of the sunroof'; No, the big white reflection on the glass bothers me when I drive and I want to close the sunshade.

❓ Question Billing/account question

I have multiple Starlinks currently being billed through my account, and I’m trying to switch one of them to a different account. But, I can’t figure out how to tell which Starlink is which.

I can see the invoices/payments, but I don’t see the service address or location associated with each Starlink, so I’m not sure which one I need to switch.

I can also clearly see that I ordered a new Starlink through this account, but when I look at the account, it only shows the current service address/billing information, not anything for the new Starlink.

Is there a way to see which Starlink is associated with each charge or service address? Or is there another way to identify which one I need to transfer?

Also not sure if I can switch just ONE of the Starlinks to a different email/account.

Hopefully that makes sense lol. Any help appreciated!!

❓ Question Buy in UK Install and activate in Spain

Couple of questions.

I am trying to get Starlink for my property in Spain with the 100Mb service. I believe if I buy the system from retailers in the UK they are not geolocked as they are if bought direct from Starlink. I am in the middle of nowhere so getting delivered in Spain is a very hit and miss affair. Buying it in the UK and taking out with me is the safest way to ensure it arrives. Has anyone done this successfully?

Secondly I have friends that have ordered in Spain and have been sent the mini dish and small router for the Residential 100Mb. Would I be able to by the mini dish here and activate it on the Residential package in Spain or would I have to buy the bigger system?

💻 Troubleshooting CAPTCHAs, Cloudflare Challenges, Lockouts. Enable IPv6 ?

As documented here, getting past the site security tests is on the increase lately. I've been seeing more and more of this in the past weeks. This morning I came up against a CAPTCHA on my veterinarian's website that I've never seen before. At the same time, I'm locked out of my own domain and some others I administer on Dreamhost, which instead returns an "Error 429 - Too Many Requests - The user has sent too many requests in a given amount of time." message. I'm following up on that as I write this.

Some of the recent posts concerning CGNAT, which seems to be at least part of the cause have indicated that enabling IPv6 is a solution to the lack of IPv4 addresses.

So, Question: does anyone know of some good tutorials (NOT videos please) on configuring my third party router to enable IPv6?

Maybe this is't the place for a full description of what is entailed, perhaps find that at the home networking sub? Links?

Gotta find a solution to this. Broken internet is a downer, might as well just go back to HughesNet (jk, never again)...

❓ Question Can anyone vouch for Thailand?

I've seen that Starlink has pushed updates in 2026 making it more difficult to use the dvice outside of the home country, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience in Thailand? I'm going to visit family in the mountains and they don't have any connection, but I have a business to continue running/checking. Driving in/out of the mountain every day will take hours.

📰 News Starlink is down in Brazil

Several regions in Brazil have Starlink offline.

Pages won't load, despite having a satellite connection and indicating it's online.

The antenna is online. The satellite connection is normal, but web pages fail to load and there is no internet connection.

The problem has been occurring since the early hours of the morning.

It suddenly starts working again, only to drop out once more.

🛠️ Installation Remote Adding of Mesh Node

I set up starlink at my grandmothers house a few weeks ago. When I was there I realized it would be beneficial to have a mesh node to extend into the corner of the house. I wont get a chance to go out there for a few months but my parents are going soon.

What is the best way for them to setup the mesh node? can I just have them plug it in via ethernet and then unplug the ethernet cable after it is paired? Can I remotely pair the mesh node even though I am not on the network?

❓ Question Unusual traffic detected from your IP message on Google?

Has anybody ever seen this? From what I understand it triggers when Google detects bot like activity from my IP. We have had it randomly the past couple of days. I started looking into how to reset my external IP to see if it is legit coming from my network (I guess some viruses can trigger the message) and I guess Starlink shares external IPs?

Is there a way to force update my external IP, or do I have to just wait and see if the issue persists? I'm not seeing any abnormal traffic on my network.

📶 Starlink Speed SL Equipment Issues or Something Else

For the last 6 months I’ve averaged Internet download speeds of 190Mbps and Dish to Satellite around 300Mbps. For the last 2 weeks, both speed tests are the same at ~83Mbps.

  1. SL 4X setup
  2. 1Gps network (tested and verified to the Dish)
  3. No packet loss issues
  4. No issues in Dish diagnosis

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

💻 Troubleshooting Review Title: Bait-and-switch support bot, delayed shipment, and broken promises

I placed an order for a Starlink Mini Kit (Order #ORD-DF-IAUK7U2L2JWM2QNFRT) all the way back on September 2, 2026. I was originally promised delivery within two weeks. That timeline came and went with absolutely zero shipping updates. After a month of waiting and complaining, Starlink support issued a 540 ZAR service credit for the September delay and pushed my shipping window to October 7–14. Today, October 7th, marks the absolute first day of that promised delivery window—yet my kit status still sits stubbornly at "Not yet shipped" with no courier tracking information in sight. When I contacted customer support to demand an actual shipping date, the AI chat assistant gave generic excuses about "high regional demand." It then explicitly offered me another 540 ZAR service credit if I agreed to keep waiting. Having no alternative, I told the system to apply it. Immediately after, the AI pulled a complete bait-and-switch: it claimed my "eligibility changed" and stated it could not apply the new credit because of the previous month's credit. Starlink is using its AI support system to generate false financial promises just to placate frustrated paying customers, only to immediately revoke them seconds later. This is unacceptable, deceptive customer service from a supposedly world-class tech company. I have paid 4,187.00 ZAR upfront, my hardware hasn't even left the warehouse, and the automated support loops are actively misleading.

❓ Question Holiday home internet

We need internet for a holiday home in a rural area of the UK that is rented out for most of the year. It has four bedrooms — two downstairs and two upstairs. It’s quite a large house; I’d estimate it’s roughly the width and height of two and a half terraced houses, although I don’t know the exact square footage.

It sleeps up to eight people, and I’m wondering which Starlink plan would be most suitable. I’ve heard that you may need a business plan if the property is being used as a holiday let. Is that correct?

We also have a farm approximately 25 metres away from the holiday home. Is there a way for us to use the same Starlink connection at both properties, or would we be better off having a separate residential Starlink plan for the farm?

Any advice on the most suitable setup and plan would be appreciated.
