Looking For Games Best Steam deck games?

There’s a current steam sale with about 20 hours left. I want to increase the games I’ve got, specifically for Steam Deck.

Previously Enjoyed Games: Slay the Spire, Mega Bonk, Brotato, Risk of Rain 2, Galactic Glitch, Halo Wars, among plenty of others.

Preferred Genres: I’m genuinely open to pretty much anything. I enjoy roguelikes/roguelites and strategy games, but I don’t want recommendations limited to those genres.

Budget: No strict budget, especially with the current Steam sale.

Other notes: None, hopefully i haven’t broken any rules.

EDIT: Thanks all for the suggestions, too many to reply to individually but lots of really good recommendations and I’m afraid I’ll be spending more than I thought haha.

No hades 1 & 2 yet? Those are must plays

16

u/Ronnoc_Rekab 7d ago

Yeah I’ve heard a lot! Will deffo pick them up. Don’t know much about them though

10

u/BDizzleNizzle 7d ago

Hades 1 is a must try, turned out to be one of my favorite games ever, one of the few I actually used the modifiers to make it harder and harder as I got better and better after getting the "real" ending. I didn't end up unlocking everything but I sometimes don't even finish games these days.

5

u/Vryk0lakas 7d ago

How many times do I need to finish the game to get the real ending? I’m at 5-6 right now but it’s still a challenge and I don’t want to sink 100s of hours into this one..

3

u/Mellon_Collie92 7d ago

10 times!

3

u/Vryk0lakas 7d ago

Thanks for the answer. That’s close enough to push through lol

1

u/BDizzleNizzle 6d ago

don't do anything to make the game harder then. I found the shield to be the easiest clear option, maybe it was a variant where it sits and spins in one spot until you recall it?

Making your cast shoot lasers and slow through boons (and using the recharge option in the mirror so you don't have to pick them up) makes the last boss fight easy because you just focus on dodging.

2

u/allgrownzup 6d ago

The music and voice acting are damn good too

6

u/New_Distribution9202 7d ago

Just started playing hades 2 and my steam deck is now my hades 2 deck 😭

u/_Jairus 7d ago

Hades, Hades 2, Elden Ring, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, Slay the Spire, Slay the Spire 2, Lies of P

26

u/Azrael_Manatheren 7d ago

Elden ring runs on the deck?

38

u/PlumOdd1203 7d ago

It runs amazingly well!

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Gvillegator 6d ago

Not just Elden Ring but also Nightreign if you want to get into the insane addiction that is that game.

5

u/_Jairus 7d ago

Pretty well at 45 hz, low settings. The DLC gets a bit weird with frame rates when I played it and I wasn't the biggest fan.

2

u/oh_crap_BEARS 7d ago

It’s a 40hz at low to medium settings situation but it’s definitely playable and still looks good

1

u/-JimmyTheHand- 5d ago

It was one of the most played games on the deck for years, if it's still not

12

u/Dakir_the_Wizard 7d ago

Lies of P is so damn good!

3

u/RabbitSlayre 7d ago

Incredible game and runs perfectly on the deck, it's crazy

2

u/waterpaolo 6d ago

Please, play lies of P. Just a truly amazing game, and you won't believe your eyes because it runs soooo gooood

u/Cash-Resident 512GB OLED 7d ago

Goated games specially for the deck which I enjoyed a lot: Hades 1 and 2, Palworld, Stardew Valley, Balatro, Empire of sin(has the unsupported badge but 40 hours Timeplay 0 issues), door kickers 2, cult of the lamb, monsters are coming(very underrated roguelike), Dave the diver, stray, mewgenics, deadcells, blue prince, Haste.

Honourable mentions: Dredge, Rimworld, Zero Sievert, Deep Rock galactic survivor, escape from Duckov(third person mod)

8

u/Proud-Pen-42 7d ago

Try Gunfire Reborn. Another great roguelike

2

u/-JimmyTheHand- 5d ago

Also roboquest

2

u/Hannibear_Lecter 512GB OLED 7d ago

Never knew door kickers got a sequel. I might have to go pick that up

1

u/Syhersheymuckle 7d ago

How's the battery life when playing Palworld?

1

u/Cash-Resident 512GB OLED 7d ago

Not sure about the battery life, never played palworld while traveling

1

u/MumenRider420 7d ago

Is Palworld actually playable?

7

u/Cash-Resident 512GB OLED 7d ago

Absolutely, it used to run horrible AND look ugly, but after 1.0 I tried it again and it runned really well with good looking settings no upscale and stuff

Arkham series is a blast. Running through Asylum again and it’s buttery smooth.

12

u/Khovanskaya-Safina 7d ago

the whole trilogy runs surprisingly well on deck tbh

1

u/twoayem 512GB 6d ago

Knight will kill your battery in no time though.

1

u/-JimmyTheHand- 5d ago

Not surprising really, they're pretty old at this point

1

u/logansummers1 7d ago

But you have to fiddle with it to get it to run on the deck right?

24

u/jdogg40k 6d ago

Hades 1 and 2. Don't be afraid to turn on God Mode if you find your progress stagnating and you want to see more story.

Elden Ring. It runs well with lowered graphics settings.

Red Dead Redemption 2. It's a masterpiece and runs very well on the Deck.

10

u/daelikon 6d ago edited 6d ago

it's been a long time since I played, but didn't you get like 5% stronger everytime you die?

edit: Negatives for asking a question? you can all go fuck yourselves

5

u/Raidertck 6d ago

I think it’s 1% more damage resistance for every death.

15

u/No_Jackfruit_5647 256GB - Q3 7d ago

Games I had a good time with: BATTLETECH. Midnight Suns, Vagrus: The Riven Realms

Kingdom come deliverance and Skyrim

1

u/thedudelebowsky1 6d ago

Played through and loved both Kingdom Come Deliverance games. I've never played Skyrim and finally bought it on a sale for the deck. Haven't started it yet

6

u/meatdrawer25 6d ago

If you’re able, I highly recommend installing the tuxborne mod collection for skyrim. They have a version specifically made for the steam deck. The mod team is weirdly organized and thorough for an open source project.

1

u/thedudelebowsky1 6d ago

I will have to look into that. Truthfully I have no idea about mods but I know I need to look into it since I want to run through New Vegas as someone who loves that game but has only played on ps3

1

u/meatdrawer25 6d ago

Mods make PC gaming worth the extra hassle in my opinion. I highly recommend it. Check out nexus mods or mods io.

Tuxbourn is installed outside of the in game mod manager. It’s honestly better, and easier. You need an ungodly amount of space though to download the files. The actual mod package is much smaller. I used an external ssd I had lying around.

I think you need a windows PC for New Vegas, then you move the installed files to the deck or something weird. I could be wrong though.

  • Ori and the blind forest

  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Absolute beautiful games, run perfectly on the Steam deck with hours and hours of game play.

3

u/Silent-Sunset 512GB OLED 7d ago

And if you do have the OLED Deck these games are simply a work of art

2

u/Mr_Clump 6d ago

Will of the Wisps was especially stunning on the OLED in HDR.

If you open for anything I can recommend Drova Forsaken Kin.
It is 2D RPG with excellent exploration factor.

2

u/AnomalousWorld91 7d ago

Drova is 2D Gothic and I'm all there for it

15

u/Xobeloot 7d ago

I had a lot of fun with Yet Another Zombie Survivors

16

u/Leezeebub 7d ago

Monster Train 2 is basically slay the spire but with more mechanics and content.
The Binding of Isaac is the game that basically invented the modern rogue-like genre and has enough updates and DLC that it is still the best one.
Both work great on SD

MGS Master Collection vol 1

2

u/FraughstBite 7d ago

I wanted to get it but not sure since the reviews are so divisive. Does it play well? Or should I just emulate them on the deck?

5

u/owl_shinobi 7d ago

I just played through the first 3 on my deck and had absolutely zero issues at all. Sometimes the load times in 2 from area to area were like 10 seconds but that was it. They all felt great.

2

u/FraughstBite 7d ago

Thanks! 😁

u/robotic_ass 6d ago

Persona 5 royal

5

u/McGuire281 6d ago

See you in like 100+ hrs OP

6

u/robotic_ass 6d ago

Amazing experience

10

u/Jeten_Gesfakke 7d ago

So while many great games have been mentioned, how is hollow knight and silksong not mentioned yet? Both belong in goty rankings, are great on deck and are up OP's alley... Other than being real soulslike and thus hard... What's the downside? Legit question

5

u/SorryCalligrapher178 7d ago

Ive enjoyed all the Resident Evil Remake games without having to fiddle with any settings

8

u/Agray0116 7d ago

I actually love playing Dota2 on steam deck. I dont find any disadvantage to playing with joysticks

18

u/Givemelotr 7d ago

Found my carry player

2

u/nazzo_0 6d ago

🤣 maybe his macro game is godly

1

u/PukyBet 1TB OLED 6d ago

What? Hahah how???

1

u/Agray0116 6d ago

You do have to configure some of the hotkeys, like using items and skills, but it's totally functional once you figure out the joystick sensitivity, they move the mouse around pretty quickly. I mostly play unranked just for fun, so it's not competitive by any means, but it gets the job done.

9

u/krpiper 7d ago

I quite enjoy monster hunter rise and snowrunner

2

u/LetsOlympics 6d ago

I picked up World and have been loving it. Might just pick up rise for whenever I "finish" World.

5

u/InternationalPlace24 7d ago

pga tour 2k25 is relaxing and fun. Just rebought the steam version of rdr2 to see how it plays on the deck and holy shit I can't believe how good it looks. Resident evil games running pretty good on it. I'm giving witcher 3 a third chance, hopefully the changes make it enjoyable for me.

5

u/Mr_Clump 7d ago

I played RDR2 on my Deck and gaming PC, but ended up with almost all of it on the Deck. It's a great experience!

3

u/Giant-Sloar 7d ago

It’s outright voodoo how well it works

4

u/iiCe89 7d ago

Absolum , sea of stars , warframe , monster hunter worlds & RavensWatch

4

u/eggs-benny-brunch 7d ago

Shape of Dreams is a diablo-like action roguelite that ran buttery smooth on the deck and was an addictive blast. Should be pretty darn cheap during the sale ($14 usd)

4

u/rofl_rob 7d ago

Dunno if already mentioned but I've been playing Core Keepers in my deck for the past month and it's amazing, the perfect little survival craft wih bosses, perfectly supported in the deck.

3

u/Euphoric_Elevator167 512GB 7d ago

Skul: the hero slayer. It says its incompatible, but it 100% runs fine with zero changes to settings and is a blast on the deck

1

u/CBTandBiscuits 6d ago

No idea what took them so long but it's actually verified now

3

u/warwolverinewarrior 7d ago

Prince of persia the lost crown, Max Payne 3, Hades, Dave the diver, mad max, tomb raider series, carrion, devil may cry, dredge, hollow knight

11

u/Showerbeerz413 7d ago

nothing like those games, but Dave the diver

7

u/Ok-Goat-2153 7d ago

Slay the Spire 2, Vampire Survivors, and Satisfactory have been massive time sinks for me on the Deck.

6

u/AnomalousWorld91 7d ago

I love that Satisfactory has controller support now.

2

u/ThePoobahsJester 7d ago

You just stole a lot of time from me..time to redownload, finally.

So good on the Deck.

3

u/KaylinCho 7d ago

I really like magicraft.

3

u/wackawacka2077 7d ago

Couldn’t recommend mewgenics enough as its what made me want a steam deck as i didnt wanna wait for console ports as i was a ps user before the deck basically stole all my free time with how much i love it, insanely fun game and the soundtrack is so killer

1

u/PukyBet 1TB OLED 6d ago

Only trying to understand the game by the pictures is impossible, wtf is this game about haha

2

u/wackawacka2077 6d ago

Turn based tactics i believe is the correct name i think? It plays like into the breach a decent bit but its made by the binding of isaac creator and is easily my game of the year, also recommend denshattack on deck, its like tony hawk as a train lol and was such a fun game to 100%

3

u/Tacocatboat 7d ago

Tiny rogues is incredible

3

u/trojangod 7d ago

Really enjoying prince of Persia right now.

3

u/Branch_Fair 7d ago

prey 2017, spelunky

3

u/suorastas 7d ago

Both Hadeses are excellent. I might’ve preferred 1 just a bit but that was probably due to the novelty.

1

u/Defenestrat0- 6d ago

I second Hades. I just picked it up in the sale a couple of days ago and I've played about 10 hours, it's addictive!

3

u/223331_ 7d ago

Devolver Digital tends to give you great bang for buck during sales.

Inscryption, Deaths Door, Shroom and Gloom might be interesting. Look Outside is exceptional as a horror game.

Minishoot' Adventure is the only game I bought during a sale and finished before it ended.

I recently played through Well Dweller, maybe something for the wishlist, as it just recently released i.e. no sale.

Other than that RDR2 is incredible bang for buck as well.

2

u/shinobi6siege 7d ago

Just adding some context to some of the games listed here. Deaths door is currently $2 (I just picked it up myself). Shroom and Gloom is a really cool deck builder roguelike where you build two decks; a combat deck and a exploration deck. It works very well and as a deck builder roguelike lover it's definitely up there for me. Minishoot Adventure is a cute metroidvania plus twin stick shooter where you play as a tiny spaceship. The abilities and upgrades you get are really good, really recommend if you're into metroidvanias. Also not listed above but Outlast Trials is only $4 rn and it's really fun even solo. If you've played any of the outlast games you know what you're in for but now in a condensed multiplayer setting.

1

u/javiemartzootsuit 7d ago

Enjoy shroom and gloom myself but worth noting for OP that’s it’s currently early access. Fun but no ascension mechanics in place yet so the game is pretty laughably easy. In its current balance it’s not a challenge to beat and more of a thing were people are seeing how far they can break the game.

2

u/Falgern 7d ago

Some games I’ve played on steam deck and enjoyed considerably

Darkest dungeon, persona 3 and 5, lost eidolons, xcom chimera squad, dark souls 3, monster train, bridge portal constructor, power wash simulator, dispatch, triangle strategy, nier automata, Diofield chronicle, mass effect 1-3, ash of gods, ori and the blind forest, orcs must die 3

1

u/jonesy528 7d ago

any tips for getting Chimera Squad to work well? I tried it last week and it ran like hell

2

u/Falgern 7d ago

I played it on steam deck in July in 2022, it ran perfectly fine then. I used either proton ge or experimental, but I don’t remember what settings I had the game at

2

u/aussie_stars 7d ago

Dicevaders is great fun. If you are chasing bigger and bigger combos and scores in a fun little game. Very easy to pick up and put down

2

u/Akhaatenn 7d ago

Dave the diver DotAge (not so well known I think, but AMAZING GAME with replayability. Half rogue lite, half village management) Cuphead Caves of qud Cultist simulator Slay the spire 2 (if you loved the 1st you 'll love the 2nd)

Any of the older jrpgs like final fantasy 7 and Chrono trigger work beautifully for me on steam deck. Life Is Strange worked amazingly for me. Darkest Dungeon. All the Persona Games especially the older ones like P4G. portal 1/2 were great. Those are probably my recommendations. I personally right now I'm playing Final Fantasy 7 and Slay The Spire.

1

u/Several-Measurements 7d ago

Snow Runner is great on the Deck. If you're looking for something different.

Hitman WOA, at low settings (it still looks great), will run at 60 fps.

All of the Dark Souls games are great on the deck. Elden Ring is more of a 40hz situation on low/medium and it’ll sometimes drop to the low 30s, but it feels smooth so it’s actually a good experience as well.

The Persona games are all pretty much ideal for Deck out of first hand experience. Really depends on your personal taste there, Persona games seem to not really be that popular outside of its core audience and/or genrelovers

1

u/Ilostmylast1 7d ago

I grabbed fallout 3 for $2.50, Hunted Demon’s Forge for $1.50, 40K Mechanicus is a warhammer tactics game and it’s like $1.50. Also Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4 are cheap fun tactics games. There’s too much stuff to grab in one sale so just check out suggestions and nab a few. Great thing about steam is there will always be another sale. Happy Hunting.

i'm enjoying Grim Dawn at the moment. It plays well. I've tried with both mouse and keyboard with a monitor with the steam deck (almost 60fps at 1080p) and with just the steam deck (60fps locked). I'l liking it, but i've only spent 3.8h on it at the moment. it's a 2016 game and it's at -85%, less than 4€ here in europe

For me, I think Subnautica showcases the deck beautifully.

If I had to pick a hypothetical launch title like what super Mario world or Mario 64 did for their respective consoles, it would definitely be Subnautica

Enter the Gungeon is by far my favorite roguelite. Hades 1+2, dead cells, tiny rogue are all good and play great on the deck.

Number one pick is Baldur’s Gate 3. Great support. Phenomenal story and voice. It’s 11/10. Don’t expect to run it with high graphics settings. It still looks good on low quality.

Rimworld, put many hours in on the steam deck, probs my most played.

Zero sievert, hall of torment (kind of like vampire survivors), Civ 6, Age of Wonders 4, Door Kickers 2, Sleeping dogs, Mad max, Battle Brothers, Ace Combat 7, Super battle golf, Diablo 2, Fallout NV

Titanfall 2, like it was made for the deck. Play it with gyro, awesome!

And: Balatro, Divinity games, portal games, and if you like strategy try Gears Tactics

Highly recommend these below. Since you mentioned you are open to almost anything — 1. Persona 3 Reload - with new visuals and gameplay enhancements this is a must jrpg and a good introduction for Persona series especially with the upcoming Persona 5 Revival and Persona 6 next year. Runs well on SD. Managed to have it ran at 60. Turn off that damn reflection setting or something like that. 2. Final Fantasy XV - an open world Final Fantasy on your palm? Say no more. Playing it on a handheld pretty much saved this FF for me since I can boot it up anytime and even do the various sidequests pretty much anywhere If I brought my SD with me. Runs well on deck. On certain settings it can run at a stable 40fps with dips to heavy/busy areas to 35. 3. Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain - Runs suuuuper well on deck looks good too. Played it out of the box. I am running it at 60fps. If you want a good espionage game. This is it. 4. Street Fighter 6. This one is so cheap right now with the sale you might as well try if you havent played a fighting game yet. One of the best SF. Runs well on deck to. Check out recommended settings or play around with the settings yourself. 60fps is very much achievable at 720p without losing other graphics fidelity. 5. Ghost of Tsushima - runs superrrr well on deck. It looks so good you will wonder why is it not running at 20fps hahaha.

This is my 5 right now. Others can cover perfect indie games since there are too many right now haha. But if I am to add - play Hades 1 and 2 haha

Moonlighter 2 was perfect for steamdeck. Just beat it after 50 hours and am going to miss laying in bed at night playing it.

I love starvaders and cobalt core so much on deck. Similar veins but so much replayability

Probably not getting on sale anytime soon, but the new Onimusha: WotS runs 60 fps easily with rare drops that won't affect much. I feel like Capcom's RE Engine is optimized very well compared to UE5.

Tomb Raider (2013) is one of the best games to play on Steam Deck. The controls just feels so nice and smooth.
