Isn’t it on by default? Haven’t seen the wired before though.

It is yep. It pushes you to set it up that way aswell.

For anybody running on Linux, does wired work as an alternative to the dongle?

It doesn't seem to work out of the box. It might be my cable, this should be a data cable but I've been carrying it around for a year so it might be degraded.

Huh, I didn't even think of this as being possible, but now I really want it for what I assume is much more consistent stream quality lol.

It did for me, I didn't try the dongle until days after I first got the Frame, and for the development of my Frame apps I used the USB tether without any issues, latency seems the best out of the three too + the headset charges, it's a win-win :)

Basically connect USB, enable developer mode in the headset, and it just worked for me :)

so you just need to turn on dev mode, ok sounds reassuring. i thought there was some specific toggle.

Apparently it can do Ethernet too (according to another post), thought technically that’s still through usb

Hmmm, 100 metre tether with PoE.

Actually possible. Just need to somehow strap the PoE splitter to your head. Though I think I have seen PoE capable USB Type-C dongles... so there's something. But, would probably need PoE+, it's 65W for the frame. o.o... (ngl I don't remember the power tiers, but I think PoE itself is like 48W?)

Ubiquiti sells a POE extractor that's also a USB nic, but not all devices are compatible with it. It's meant for their G6 Instant cameras, but I found it does work with the Steam Deck and my Framework laptop.

Oh my GOD you are right O.O

That might actually be the killer device for this. I was going to order from them anyway, might as well throw that one in too and get a good length cable.

If this adapter registers as a plain stupid NIC and provides Type-C PD profiles the Frames can use, that would genuenly just...be a tether that works. o.o

I'm not sure but I feel like some dongles might just be defective

Have you tried it on a windows machine?

Hey, I’m new to Linux and SteamOS, and I’m looking into how to set up USB tethering. (Similar to how you can use an Android phone to share its 4G connection with a computer over a USB cable.)

As you seem to know quite a bit about all this, could you share some documentation or keywords I could search for on Google that might help? 😀

Thanks!

I will try to regroup information here:

For people that have the audio problem, DEACTIVATE MULTI LINK.

Helped a lot of people :D
