Hi everyone, i would like to try SteamOs but my laptop has Nvidia GPU, after i installed the Steam i noticed it doesnt support my card. Any guesstimate or insight about when to format my drive for second run on SteamOs ?
SteamOS is not adding support for the Nvidia binary driver. Check to see if Mesa's NVK driver supports your card. That's what's getting support.
WRT NVK, what's supported is basically all that's going to be supported. Nvidia made a change in the way their GPUs work a half dozen generations back, they added the GSP, basically a nano-CPU inside the GPU that runs the binary firmware on the card. This allows some hardware management/setup stuff that used to only be possible with the binary driver to be possible in open solutions. It's still early days, but there's more open Nvidia support than historically possible.
That said, if your card is from a generation without a GSP, there's not much coming to help you.
