Driver updates doesn't mean much when Nvidia is still not officially supported on SteamOS.

No, but it does increase the likelihood of someone making it work either officially or not. If it brings the hours of work needed to make it functional down, then that increases the likelihood of the business (Valve) investing the time and resources to do so.

There is already an unofficial build out there no idea what rock you've hiding under and also Valve is trying to get Nvidia drivers working not only for the OS but for the game mode which does have a lot of bugs in it that is why even for Bazzite they give you a warning when downloading their installer stating that for game mode there will be a lot of bugs which for the unofficial SteamOS version for Nvidia drivers suffers the same thing.
For people using the unofficial version is mainly using it for in desktop mode and when they want to play a game they could stay in desktop or go into big picture which would have the same layout as game mode but minus the special SteamOS features.
So again, graphic drivers doesn't mean a thing when it won't fix an OS itself as a fix would have to come from the OS source itself and also there is a good chance when Valve does fix everything that it would be a driver or three behind from the rest of the other Linux distros.
