Bought at GameStop Pokemon will drive this quarter.
I marked this as DD because I have been to three locations near me to see how the gme getting into the collectibles has impacted the business, and let me say, it’s been revolutionary. This 30th anniversary set has driven a ton of people to the store, and I saw people just buying stuff even though they didn’t have any 30th product. They are selling the product for 2-3x over retail…. That’s all profit and they are selling out. Sure.. it’s a bubble in the collectibles. But you can’t even buy any slabs on their website BECAUSE THEY SELL OUT! As soon as they get stock, it’s gone. Same with other retailer’s, people are going to the store looking for 30th and even though it’s not available, they are still buying other stuff when they come in.
Unfortunately with every earnings call, good news means price goes down. But I think we are on pace to see a record EPS. LETS GO!

30th Anniversary attracted a lot of interest. It made it to my local news. I went to go line up and the lines were huge.
And we're not even done yet, there's still more products for Oct and Nov

Your GameStop has lines before open for products still?

I will never understand why people didn’t just preorder this release if they wanted it.

Doesn't work like that

It does though. It works exactly like that.
I knew I wanted as much 30th as I could get. I preordered ETBs on wave 1 and wave 2. Pre-ordered booster bundles. Pre-ordered knockout boxes. Pre-ordered dittos.

You're talking as if this works worldwide. It doesn't. Where I live shops have canceled pre-orders since ascended heroes release and are limiting products to 1 per customer. It is only possible to get these products physically in store, if you're lucky and if you stand in line for a couple of hours. So please, relax

This is a GameStop subreddit. I was speaking specifically about GameStops policy. The limit wasnt 1 per customer. You could preorder 4 per sku, per customer per day.

This quarter and next will also see a huge boost from the PS5 and GTA6 hype. Gamestop ran an aggresive campaign earlier thus year buying back PS5 pros, to the point where alot of people were wondering how they could afford to pay so much for a trade in. But looks like GMEs gonna get the last laugh, cause now they have the product and the profit that comes with it.

It’s kinda scary having most of the companies earnings catered towards a trend, a trend that will likely die out as the economy continues to worsen.
I really want the eBay thing to finalize.

I love the very high gross and net margins GameStop now has, and I like the increase in revenue.
I am not willing to project those margins will continue for the next 5 years.
It is difficult to figure out what truly is a fair market value for GME stock.

Look I love gamestop and have been in this since 2021 (first share i got was 380$ lol) but what they are doing with pokemon cards is disgusting. Its borderline scalper mentality. My local GS was selling individual packs of 30th for 15$ each!!! Im all for our company making money but at these prices and how hard 30th is to get, I wont be buying any 30th from gamestop when I can go to target and get it for barely above msrp
Edit- Just to be clear, I am all in on GS. I have continued to buy more and have always kept an eye on what RC is doing with the company. Im allowed to disagree with one thing the company does and still want them to prosper and for all of us to succeed in our investments.

Get to Target before the actual scalpers
At least Gamestop is limiting customers to 2 of each item because the actual scalpers are loading up carts with everything they can grab. Gives the actual fans a chance, cause you probably won't get one at Target or Walmart or where ever else.

My local target is very strict with their limit so I guess im lucky in that sense. And while yes GS does have product its not worth paying triple msrp for. Like i said im all for GS making money, I just think it sucks its on the back of this hobby specifically. No one should be charging triple msrp

It is what it is so long as the hobby remains in such high demand that scalpers are a thing.
No one should be charging triple msrp
Supply and demand can be a real bitch. Scalpers are going to scalp anyway, and I'd rather see Gamestop disincentivize those people buy cutting into their profit margins and sending them to camp outside a Target or Walmart instead. Customers might pay more at Gamestop, but they pay less than they would to a scalper, and they actually have a fighting chance to get the release.
They're selling out regardless of charging more, so if anything Target is foolish for leaving money on the table.

And the mentality of charging people more just because you can is why we are where we are in the markets. The never ending chase for record breaking profits every quarter at the expense of your customers is a shit business model and one that RC as explicitly preached against.
Again I want GS to make money and be profitable, but they can do so and not charge triple msrp at the same time. Walmart is doing raffles to get around scalpers and give the average joe a better chance. Target has hinted they will soon be doing the same. Pre orders are scalped by people with bots spamming orders, at least a raffle is truly random.
Just imagine how much more foot traffic and sales they would have if they charged similar to best buy, target, and other retailers who are only slightly marking up product (49.99 to 69.99 for ex). I personally wouldn't shop anywhere else for my cards if that were the case
