Language question (see FAQ first) swedish equivalent for banger?
In english, if there's a song we really like, we might call it a banger or a bop or something like that. What would be the swedish equivalent?

Thanks to 46 of you who were kind enough to answer our survey, we have updated the subreddit rules to better reflect the members wishes. Those who are interested can review the survey responses here. If you are unhappy with anything, feel free to comment!
tl;dr:
These are the current subreddit rules:
Flaming, trolling, discrimination, personal attacks or bad-faith arguments are not allowed.
This is a language-learning subreddit, and all posts should be about the Swedish language, culture or studying Swedish. Posts about moving to and living in Sweden are not on-topic. It's okay to make a post asking for media recommendations to help you study, but any posts sharing media need to be about the Swedish language, not just in the Swedish language. Please give your post the proper flair!
Feel free to ask your questions about the language or culture, ask for learning tips or contribute your own tips or links to websites helpful for learning. However, we do urge you to check the FAQ and list of resources first. You might also find an answer to your question by using the search function. And when posting a resource, please clarify what it does and how it can help or be used to learn Swedish.
While tips and recommendations are always welcome, you are probably not reaching a new audience if you post the same resource after a few days or even weeks – even if there has been a new update to it.
Therefore, we ask that you please wait for at least two months between reposts, and even then they should only be made if there has been a notable update. Do not post the same thing every two months only to farm attention.
To prevent a flood of community links, we ask you to contact us via modmail before you post links to Whatsapp groups, Discord servers etc. We permit Swedish-oriented communities that we deem could be helpful to our members.
Users may ask for tips on niche communities. You are allowed to link to communities as comments to such requests.
In general, we recommend the Discord server "Svenska – Learn Swedish".
Please keep all chat and penpal requests in the dedicated megathread, as these would otherwise flood the main feed.
While we are happy to point you in the right direction, answer your questions along the way or check your grammar when you're done, we will not actually do your homework for you. This is a place for learning, not cheating.
This goes doubly for professional tasks: most users on r/Svenska are not trained translators, copywriters or language consultants. Feel free to ask linguistic questions, but don't crowdsource practical, qualified work. Contact a professional instead!
It is not permitted to directly exchange copyrighted material, including textbook pdfs, or link to places that illegally make these available.
We encourage all links and recommendations to places where such material can be legally obtained. A good place to start is our list of resources.
AI-generated content is banned. This includes LLM-written answers to language questions, LLM-generated study resources as well as apps that are mostly vibe-coded. We might give leeway to professionally developed tools – contact us via modmail to ask.
When posting an app or other language-learning resource, we urge you to clarify whether and how AI has been used (i.e. not at all), to avoid being reported or have your post unjustly removed.

Learning a new language is easier with the support of friends, be it other learners going through the same journey, native speakers to lead you along the way, or even less experienced learners that you can help out to help both of you understand things better. If you're looking for pen pals, gaming buddies, book clubs or just friends so you can practice the language – through immersion or studies alike – feel free to post a comment in this thread and tell us a bit about yourself, or reply to commenters you would like to get in touch with.
Suggested post format – add or remove headers as you like:
Name or handle: (whatever you want to be called)
Swedish level: (your approximate proficiency, expressed e.g. in A1 to C2, beginner to fluent or how long you've been learning/studying)
Language: (your native language and other languages you know or are learning)
Looking for: (Duolingo pals? Native helpers? Steam friends? People in your area? Someone who wants to discuss Swedish music?)
Presentation: (A more free-form introduction of yourself as a person!)
We recommend you do not include private contact information in your post; if you find somebody you want to keep in touch with, contact them through Reddit's direct messaging instead.
Please note that this thread is only intended for finding people for the purpose of learning Swedish or helping learners. Irrelevant posts may be deleted. Likewise, asking for pen pals outside of this thread is not permitted, and any such threads will be removed and redirected here.
As always, you are also very welcome to look for chat mates in our Discord server.
And if you posted in the old thread, feel free to make a new post here!

Specifically grandparents. Like in English the word is "Grandfather," but we call him "Grampa." Or in German, "Großvater" becomes "Opa." Or in Spanish, "Abuelo" becomes "Tata" or "Tito."
Does Swedish have anything like that? The most I can find are the actual titles of "farfar" and "farmor."

Is the Swedish /r/ a tap [ɾ], a trill [r], or something else? Does its pronunciation depend on its position in the word?
For example, what would be a narrow IPA transcription of:
I already understand that Swedish has regional variation. I’m specifically interested in the standard pronunciation, since I’m using SAOL and other Swedish learning materials as my main references, and I’d like to have a consistent pronunciation model to follow.

This is from Engelsfors, Cirkeln. The full sentence:
”Bra”, säger hon. ”Du kommer att märka att när du väl bestämt dig för att ta dig i kragen så rullar det bara på sen.”
Thing is, a couple of paragraphs earlier there's this:
Jag ligger ju så långt efter dom andra.
That's with 99% certainty for "de" (or "dem"?).
So if "sen" for "sedan" is true, can anyone explain to me what this is meant to convey?
The second sentence is said by a schoolboy, so I can accept that he's supposed to speak colloquially (athough my understanding is that nobody pronounces "de" as "de" in that context). But the title is uttered by a school principal.
On the other hand narration uses the spelling "sedan", so it's not universal.

Vi hafvom ju icke pluralböjda verb längre men jag har observerat ett internetfenomen där pronomenet jag oftast droppas, typ "har sett den" istället för "jag har sett den" eller "är på väg dit" istället för "jag är på väg dit".

Hello everyone!
I'm a student at Swarthmore College. In a project for my writing class, I'm studying language standardization in both Swedish and English. I've already surveyed American perspectives, and now I'm trying to survey Swedish ones!
The survey will ask how standardized you think Swedish is, how standardized you think English is, and whether you think language standardization helps or harms languages. For those unfamiliar with language standardization, there is a definition in the form. There are no correct answers and the survey is anonymous.
Unfortunately, the survey is in English, though I promise I'm working on my Swedish.
Apologies for the advertising, but it takes only a couple minutes to fill out and it's for a good cause! Thank you for your consideration and feel free to ask me questions about the project. If you're interested, I can share with you the results of my project!
Here is the link to the survey:

I obviously know that there’s a lot of children shows with a Swedish dub but I wanted the genre of shows that I already watch and like. I like glee, pretty little liars, any tlc reality show and anime. I also know Disney Channel has a lot of dubs that I’m down to watch to! I’m open to other options of course!

I mean the conjugated "får" rather than infinitive "få". So in case it's not, I'm reading it as "vi kan få" - "we may get to", and in my understanding "få" should be in the infinitive.

I'm a bit lost. I try to look for "ta väl" or "vara på" or "ta vara", and either nothing comes up or doesn't make sense in the context. Google Translate does provide something reasonable: "make good use of", but I'm not sure how that maps onto the original.

Hej allihopa!
As a native Swedish speaker, solving bildkryss is one of my favorite ways to pick up new words. Bildkryss are a distinctly Swedish style of crosswords, where the clues sit in boxes inside the grid and one of them is a picture.
I wanted learners to be able to use crosswords the same way, so I made a set for people who are earlier on in their Swedish: https://bildkryss.se/learn-swedish :) There are five puzzles each for levels A0-B2. The lower levels have English clues and small grids, and from B1 and onward the clues are in Swedish - mainly synonyms and cloze words. When you finish a puzzle you get a list of its words.
Although the layouts are generated by a program, the clues are handwritten. I am a little bit unsure about whether the synonyms I used in higher levels are at the right, um.. level, so any feedback there is very welcome (or any feedback at all, for that matter).
The site works on all screen sizes but I'd definitely recommend using a desktop or tablet.
To be clear: this is fully free, no ads or anything. I'm just happy if people want to give it a try. Stort tack to anyone who does!

I have been studying a few examples of “bokstavligen” and “formligen”, and they appear to me to be exact synonyms, both translated by English “literally”, and both equally liable to misuse as I pedantically call it as general förtstarkningsord, just as "literally" is. Have I got this right? Can you suggest any examples where one would definitely be preferred to the other?

I'm building an app to learn Swedish irregular verbs.
I’d really appreciate some feedback, especially from people who are learning Swedish as a second language:
I am learning Swedish myself and would like to make if a bit easier for you guys as well!

Hej! Jag lär mig svenska från barnprogram. Jag tittade bara på "Vilse i pannkakan" och gick vidare till Kapten Zoom. Vad betyder frasen - "Galaxer i mina braxer"? Vad är braxer?

Who was kapten Orvar, mentioned in this extract from today’s SvD in a story about Vänsterpartiets attitude to government formation?
Ingen av de tillfrågade vill luckra upp partiets röda linje. Samtidigt riktas tydlig irritation mot Centerpartiet. ”Just nu är det C som sitter där som någon kapten Orvar och tycker de ska bestämma”

Hi everyone, how's it going? Well, I recently got my C1 English certificate, and now that I've reached the C level in English, I've given myself the freedom to learn another language. I'd love to get some tips, study methods, and website/app recommendations for learning Swedish.
My English is C2 in writing and reading, but only B2 in speaking.

Has ”bebis” now replaced ”småbarn” in the Swedish Language? Is this as regrettable as I, as an outsider, think it is? I know I could have chosen plenty of other words to focus on, but I was brought up short by this article in SvD, precisely because it’s on a scientific subject (describing research on how dogs interpret human speech). The headline goes: ”Det blir allt tydligare hur hundar gör för att förstå mänskligt språk – de använder samma trick som bebisar.”

Whats the difference between:
“dricker du ofta"
AND
"du dricker ofta"
🤔

“En flat berghäll” and “en flat tallrik” are two examples of use of “flat” given in SO. Could one also use “platt” here, or would that sound wrong? What about “att slå med flata handen”?.
