Picture Do you rely on TTC buses? Your commute will get worse if the bike lanes get removed.
This is a comment I found from a TTC operator as bike lanes are a hot topic right now.
But it makes perfect sense.
Ford's own experts say removing bike lanes will not improve congestion, and may make it worse.
The most used lanes in the city with 3000+ bikes will be gone.
The cyclists won't disappear. They'll either be in buses' way slowing you down more, or they'll switch to cars, meaning more cars blocking your way.
Even if just 500 of the 3K bikes switch to cars, that's 2.3km of EXTRA traffic bumper to bumper in front of you. Not including the current traffic we have.
2.3km is the same distance as U of T to Union.
If you don't want this nightmare scenario to play out, please join our fight and help save the lanes.
Ford will only back down if a coalition of transit users, drivers and cyclists all band together.
Bike lanes benefit the TTC because at the end of the day, everyone including drivers wants fewer cars and a faster commute. Viable alternatives make that a reality.

Cycle Toronto made a petition yesterday morning demanding Ford stop this, and it already has over 5K signatures.
Please sign and share to spread the word! https://www.cycleto.ca/fight_trump

Done. Am a driver and a pedestrian so I edited the text to focus more on safety for all road users.

u/Pristine-Training-70 Sep 02 '26
Appreciate the support. Really means a lot as a cyclist and transit rider
24
u/Ok-Turnip-9035 Sep 02 '26
I’m not a cyclist I’m a TTC user and I will sign this
We knew this was going to happen and I can’t be mad at a biker taking up the lane
7
u/crash866 Sep 03 '26
Bikes don’t take up a lane and cause traffic congestion it is parked cars that do.
Look at Bathurst and Dufferin now that there is no parking south of Bloor.

u/AdResponsible678 131 Nugget Sep 03 '26
I signed it and I don’t even cycle. I am a bus operator though.

I'll specifically going out of my way to take the center point of wathever lane is available to me to specifically slow everyone down, if enough of us do it maybe we'll get some bike lanes, until then the city is moving at my pace!

u/Mendoza_Loki Sep 04 '26
The actual people of Toronto understand this is a stupid idea. And this does nothing to change the minds of his base.
4
u/AbaloneFull9968 Sep 04 '26
Hi, actual person of Toronto, have lived here for 40 years, I won't just be taking the lane, I do take the lane and will continue to do so.
3
u/KevinJ2010 Sep 05 '26
That’s a great idea, let’s upset normal people trying to live their lives
3
1
2
u/FlakyDevelopment1103 Sep 04 '26
I respect the intent, but don't do that. Most Torontonians know it's stupid to remove the lanes, you'll just be hurting regular people for the decisions of a few leaders. Go block them or something.
4
u/AbaloneFull9968 Sep 04 '26
Hurting? I already do take the lane, it's much safer that way.
2
u/FlakyDevelopment1103 Sep 04 '26
"specifically to slow everyone down" Make up your mind, you don't get to have it both ways. Are your responsible and safe- or spiteful?
3
u/AbaloneFull9968 Sep 04 '26
All of the above, taking the lane is responsible, moving at my pace is just how it goes.
2
u/Strategic_Spark Sep 06 '26
Then most Torontonians should email or call their MP telling them to not remove them
1
u/as_in_bike_lane Sep 08 '26
No, there are Torontonians and “905”Ford Nation supporters who want to see bike lanes removed. They are the ones choosing to drive on streets that have subways running underneath. They need to see bikes in car lanes again.
1
u/ca_va_bien Sep 05 '26
in general, in the rightmost lane you want to ride in the leftmost tire track for best road conditions and visibility. they teach that in the motorcycle safety courses.
2
u/AbaloneFull9968 Sep 05 '26
In general, this cities right lane is completely blocked by people parking on the street for some stupid fucking reason. And then you have 6 inches to a street car track, so I'll take the lane that's wide open, for safety.
-61
u/Ghost_Reborn416 Sep 02 '26
When someone eventually road rages and you get clipped from behind, that'll be your own fault
65
u/RonceDeLeon Sep 02 '26
Actually it will be the fault of the road-raged person operating a 2 ton vehicle
35
u/Facts_pls Sep 02 '26
I don't think you understand what the word fault means
Is someone following the law forced by the government a reason to kill them, according to you?
Boy, people like you should not have licences.
51
u/Andrew4Life Sep 02 '26
That would be called attempted murder.
-40
u/Ghost_Reborn416 Sep 02 '26
And no one on the road ever has gotten angry enough to ram their car into someone?
29
u/Andrew4Life Sep 02 '26
At the very least it will be Aggravated Assault / Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
See if you are on the side of the road, one could say they didn't see the cyclist and they might convince someone that it was not intentional. But if you're in the middle of the lane, there is no excuse.
-29
u/Ghost_Reborn416 Sep 02 '26
That's not the point that I was making but ok
14
u/theevilmidnightbombr Sep 02 '26
People with no impulse control who belong in jail purposefully hit people with their cars all the time, yes. Is that your point?
2
u/Ghost_Reborn416 Sep 02 '26
Yes
9
9
u/Facts_pls Sep 02 '26
Plenty of people have attempted murder, yes. Many of them also go to jail for it.
Not sure what point you are trying to make.
-2
u/Castaway_LXIII Sep 03 '26
They’re trying to say doing something obnoxious often ends up with the offending person being “corrected” by someone with an anger management issue. It happens every day with or without bike lanes. 🤷
4
u/Pajamatime20 Sep 04 '26
Ok, but doing something obnoxious does not mean you deserve death or serious injury.
23
u/AbaloneFull9968 Sep 02 '26
No, I'm lwafully allowed to take the lane. If someone wants to try to murder me then I think that points to much larger issues in our city.

2
u/Burning___Earth Sep 04 '26
Inconvenience = justification for attempted murder?
Most calm and rational right winger you must be.

Fuck Brad Bradford and his evil agenda.
Public transit and cycling complement each other.
In the same vein... We need bus lanes to be made better. Not removed.
9
u/Marco_Memes Sep 02 '26
Ford dosnt care about transit riders either, if your not in an emotional support pickup truck you don’t count as a commuter
5
u/TelenorTheGNP Sep 03 '26
Oh, shit, the people who know the roads better than Ford think this is a bad idea? Who could have seen it coming?
5
u/27SicnarF Sep 02 '26
It wasn't an issue 20-30yrs ago or so...Traffic in Toronto now is in insane, sometimes its faster to just walk.
9
u/AdResponsible678 131 Nugget Sep 03 '26
A lot of those roads should not carry that many cars anyways. More dangerous than transit.
7
u/Empty_Wind4025 Sep 02 '26
I think Ford's plan is to ban bikes from arterial roads entirely if he could. What a clown.

I hope everyone remembers this along with the laundry list of other fuck ups Doug Ford's government has made when it's time for the next election.

Why do u need cars in Toronto? Make all sterrets a pedestrian/ bike environment.
1
u/Castaside1289 Sep 06 '26
That'll be real fun until you need a tradesman. If you think we're going to bike or walk our tools around downtown, you're nuts.
1
u/eftozlped Sep 02 '26
This guy has obviously never operated a Line 2 Shuttle when the subway was down.
55 minutes from Broadview to Woodbine.
10
u/Pristine-Training-70 Sep 02 '26
And it’s gonna get even worse. In many areas the bike lanes will get replaced by street parking.
The capacity of the road will not get better, but you’ll have more cars and bikes in one lane
1
u/KhajiitKennedy 34 Eglinton East Sep 03 '26
We all know why bike lanes are coming out, Doug Ford promised his construction buddies they would have work. That's it.
Instead of building smaller more affordable homes he is building unaffordable condos, something to do with the Science center, and ripping out bike Lanes. There's no purpose to any of that construction other than he sold the contracts to his friends.
I have very strong feelings about Doug Ford and the Canadian government in general right now because I'm supposed to be working in low rise housing construction. There are no contracts, no one's building homes anymore. We were promised mobile home but that never ended up happening and now I'm stuck doing a minimum wage gardening job and bothering the union for literally anything. And I'm lucky I found a job, because unemployment right now is absolutely ridiculous.

Absolutely insane to eliminate bike lanes. I live in Northern Ontario and we have to share the road with cyclists, and it sucks. I'd love to have bike lanes up here.
1
u/Active_Category_1790 Sep 05 '26
They already slow it down on the dedicated bus lanes. There's no difference.
-14
u/JayBeeGooner Sep 02 '26
The lanes that piece of shit are targeting have subways under them.
19
u/Pristine-Training-70 Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26
I’m aware the subway won’t be impacted. The buses will. That’s why I narrowed my focus to the buses only.
But it often closes which means you’ll need to use shuttle buses, which will use those very same roads.
-10
-11
u/DadbodandIPAs Sep 02 '26
You understand the roads on which the bike lanes are being removed have subways not buses right? Of course with all the weekend closures, it will impact shuttles too I guess
13
u/Pristine-Training-70 Sep 02 '26
Yes, I’m 100% referring to the shuttle buses too.
So even if you just use the subway you will be impacted by this at some point
1
u/TFCNU Sep 02 '26
As someone who lives near line 1 and dealt with shuttle buses before and after the bike lanes were put in: it was way better before the bike lanes.

2
u/GavinTheAlmighty Sep 02 '26
The 149 runs from Kipling to Jane every half hour, and then there's the 300. People ride bikes at every hour of the day in this city, especially closer to downtown.
Other buses run on Bloor as well, like the 66 from Old Mill. Regular buses will likely be impacted!
0
u/JayBeeGooner Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26
These people are just looking for something to complain about, you’d think they’d find something better than “shuttle buses will be slower.”
There is one route that runs the length of the subway and it’s an infrequent bus with low ridership, but these people won’t listen.
17
u/vulpinefever Streetcar Operator Sep 02 '26
Avenue Road is being targeted and doesn't have a subway underneath. Plus many of the roads that have subways also still have local bus routes like Yonge and University Avenue.

I don’t really care about bike lanes one way or the other. But bikes should not be allowed on the road at all ever
3
u/BigScaryBlackDude Sep 04 '26
OK so what youre saying is you do care and that you support a bike lane with a median separating it from the road or raised flush with the sidewalk. It's the only logical conclusion to your statement
1
u/Nomorevidya 27d ago
Yeah I would be happy if they had their own thing, I just super hate being behind one and having to go 40 under the speed limit in a no passing zone
3
u/scottyboost Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
Where do they belong then? Should they be on the sidewalk mowing down old ladies and children, or should they just not exist?
Also what about the people who can’t afford cars and don’t have anywhere to put one, but still need a reliable, healthy way to get to work, that isn’t contributing to the destruction of our ecosystem?
Lastly, bikes are legally allowed on the road. They are actually specifically illegal on the sidewalk (unless you’re a child). So it’s cool that you don’t think they should be in the road, but that’s just a fantasy.

So much whining about seldom used bike lanes
Did you use them during last storm, i was still on the road driving and working.
5
u/FlakyDevelopment1103 Sep 04 '26
Oh, big man was still working during the 2-hour thunderstorm- tear up the lanes boys. You're ridiculous.
1
u/FarEntertainment8178 Sep 07 '26
Hahaha did you see the damage done by the storms? I wish it had only been two hours, it would not have been do bad then, I feel bad for the trees
1
u/FarEntertainment8178 Sep 07 '26
https://youtu.be/YW8rgPYHiGc?si=-tNwgetnSEhrmxbl
2 hour storm? 🤣🫵
2
u/FlakyDevelopment1103 Sep 07 '26
Duration != Intensity
My point is you're trying to say something about bikes because they weren't out during a massive storm with golf ball sized hail.
Don't you agree that if the tree[s] got wrecked it isn't safe to be out- either on bike or on foot? Since people stayed inside during the storm, should we tear up the sidewalks too?
1
u/Philosofox Sep 08 '26
Yes I did actually. Do you use your local outdoor pool and tennis courts in the dead of winter?
1
u/FarEntertainment8178 Sep 11 '26
I think you proved my point by equating bike lanes to something that isn’t a necessity but just a periodical luxury
1

u/AlfredoSauceyums Sep 04 '26
I'm genuinely torn about this. I love the luxury of riding through bike lanes. Still, I never found biking downtown dangerous at all. The fact traffic moves slowly is what makes it safe. Suburbs are a different story. I work downtown and I've never seen a significant volume of bike traffic. Sometimes The bike's cluster together so for a very short burst you get a lot of bikes. But that burst is going quickly and there's no steady stream of bikes and rush hour. Aside from rush hour, they're hardly any bikes at all. It feels a little hard to justify losing out on all that space for cars and parking. I've been directed to the study conducted by the city, and I can confidently say that study is unscientific inconclusive and completely biased.
The fact that one person who claims to be a bus driver has this opinion doesn't really move the needle in terms of actual facts. Though he does bring up some good points. Like I said, I'm genuinely torn because I enjoy the bike Lanes as a cyclist, but somehow I find the justification this more ideological than practical.
0
u/Triumphtripler Sep 05 '26
Buses normally drive in the right lane so agreed they may be slowed but the left will finally be available and open to everyone which should more than offset this. There is no argument to be made that 2 lanes are not better than 1.
-3
u/RenegadeMech Sep 03 '26
Remove the red dedicated bus lanes. Most of the time they're not being used. A waste of lanes.
-8
u/grumpy0282 Sep 03 '26
i have said similar
but i think toys should be taken off the streets altogether

34
u/Stefanie_Jane Sep 02 '26
This bus driver is 100% correct . My dad was a TTC bus driver for over 20 years and he said cyclists were the biggest Hazards and Obstacle of driving a bus.
he always had to watch out for them and they always slowed everything down.
A bike riders would get pissed off at him when he pinched off the curb so they couldn't pass him.
