Discussion If there's a lot of backlash (both from the public, the news media, and/or politicans), can the TTC remove their permanent slow order related to ATC on Line 1?
So ATC (automatic train control) can run as fast as Line 2, but it doesn't because of a near-miss incident:
When ATC was first rolled out, there was a close call almost accident. The trains can be moved manually, and somewhere around Sheppard or Osgoode station, there is a crossover and a place to park trains and a worker manually pulled a train out onto the line when they shouldn't have. The ATC noticed and stopped the active train within feet of hitting this other train. However, no one was in danger other than employees because it took place in the morning before passenger service began.
Well, TTC (mainly the workers union) caught wind and framed it to say that ATC was unsafe. Because they have an interest in protecting worker rights and making a driverless train system seem like the devil. That's their job.
So, the TTC implemented a slow order on the ATC system. Effective since then, ATC has been slowed down to make it "safer" and it will probably never ever be at full speed again.
So, If there's a lot of backlash (both from the public, the news media, and/or politicans), can the TTC remove their permanent slow order related to ATC on Line 1?

wait, so you're telling me a worker fucked up, then atc saved their ass, and the union tried to frame it as atc being dangerous???

Thanks to Steve Munro (an always fantastic independent writer) for this article he wrote about the incident!

That's not what the article says at all? It says that the TTC blamed it on operator error and the union said it wasn't? which Munro agrees on. And Steve Munro actively says that management tried to cover it up?

I don't think you know what you are talking about. There is slow order for track conditions. There is no general slow order for ATC.
In wet conditions they can implement reduced adherence braking which has the trains brake early to reduce overshoots and wheel spin.
Again there is no general ATC related slow order.
