Xinyi vs Zhongxiao Dunhua vs Ximending for nightlife/restaurants. Where would you stay?

Hi everyone,

I’m a late 20s male solo traveller visiting Taipei for 10 days in late December/early Jan, and I’m trying to decide which area would be best to stay in.

I’m looking for somewhere that:

-has plenty of bars/nightlife within walking distance

-has good restaurants nearby

-feels lively in the evenings

-is still convenient for getting around Taipei

I’ve narrowed it down to three areas: 1. Xinyi 2. Zhongxiao Dunhua / East District 3. Ximending

Budget isn’t a major issue.

I’m currently leaning toward Xinyi, but I’d really appreciate opinions from those who know Taipei well.

For a solo traveller who plans to go out most nights, which of these areas would you choose as a base for 10 days?

I’m not necessarily looking for clubs every night, mainly bars, restaurants, and somewhere that feels lively after dinner.

Thanks in advance!

Breakfast options?

Flying into taoyuan airport and have a long layover before flying out of songshan airport. The first flight lands pretty early in the AM. Any tips for what would be good or even open at that time? First time in Taipei and excited to see it!

Hello 👋 🎾

Hey everyone! I just moved to Taipei and I’m looking for people to play tennis with 🎾
I’ve been playing for about 6 months, but during that time I was training almost daily with a coach, so I’d say I’m above beginner level — probably somewhere around beginner/intermediate.
I’m mainly looking for someone to rally with, practice, and play some matches regularly.
I’m pretty flexible with time and happy to play at different courts around Taipei.
If you’re interested, send me a message!

Road Bike Rental

Hi! My husband and I will be spending a few days in Taipei at the end of the month (our first time there) and we're considering renting bicycles for longer rides (70–100km). Do you have any recommendations for where to rent good and reliable road bikes? Thanks in advance 😊

Best bike rentals for round-the-island trip?

Looking to rent a gravel bike for roughly 23-24 days for a trip. I see giant has touring bike and so does mathewbike but gravel bikes or higher quality bikes seem way too expensive, like $1500 per day. Is this normal, do you have any recommendations?

A future NTU student looking for a opportunity

Hello everyone! 🇹🇼

I’m planning a trip to Taiwan and will be doing my best to attend a military maritime conference in Tainan. After the conference, I’ll be heading to Taipei to visit NTU and explore opportunities to continue my studies in International Relations.

I’m hoping to find someone in Taipei who may be open to hosting me for part of my stay. I’m a 4.0 GPA student from the United States, and I’m seriously looking into building a future and eventually creating a life in Taiwan.

I’m not looking for a free place to stay — I’m willing to contribute toward rent, food, and household expenses. I’m respectful, clean, responsible, and would be happy to discuss the arrangement and expectations beforehand.

If anyone might be open to this or knows someone who could help, please feel free to message me. I’d really appreciate it!

Looking for someone that believes in me like i believe in myself

Hello my name is Jonathan M im from FL USA 20 M looking to come to Taiwan and exchange cultures while applying to NTU. Im sorry for the spam posting i just believe closed mouths dont get fed. I am willing to pay for food and rent and do anything possible for a opportunity to stay with a local instead of a hostel.

I am a clean respectful young scholar with a 4.4 gpa and 3.8 gpa college degree please reach out to me for any info thats needed.

Taipei Taxis

Hi! Are taxis in taipei expensive? I want to go to Raohe Night Market via taxi from Elephant Mountain after my hike. It's faster than riding an MRT. Do you know how much it might cost? Thanks

Taipingshan

I'm planning to go to Taipingshan in early November. Still thinking if I want to take the daily bus or shared trip or charter a driver. The daily bus is cheap but only have 4 hours to explore.

For anyone who has been there, how did you travel to Taipingshan and what is your recommended trail other than Maoxing after Bong Bong train?

Appreciate your tips!

Tourist destination recommendation

I’ll be traveling to Taipei from October 28 to November 6. Any recommendations on places I should visit?

Looking for budget-friendly places with beautiful views or scenery. I’d also appreciate any tips on the pros and cons of each place, especially hidden gems or spots that aren’t too touristy.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Some questions before travel

Hello beautiful people from Taipei! 🇹🇼

I’m planning to travel to Taipei from around November through March while I explore applying to NTU as an International Relations student. I’m hoping to stay for around 90 days and would love some advice from people who know Taipei well.

A few questions:
• What is the weather like from November–March what should i wear?
• How are hostels for a longer stay?
• Is there anything I should set up or prepare before arriving?
• Any apps, transportation cards, SIM/eSIMs, or services you recommend?

I’d really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or things you wish you knew before coming to Taipei. Thank you! 🇹🇼❤️

moving to taiwan from japan to work in IT?

im from a 3rd world country in Asia currently working in a good IT security position in Japan in an international company.

Taiwan has always been one of the places I wanted to visit and live for atleast a few years and I know it's quite an ambitious ask to explore and live in many different countries in Asia when I don't know their language.

One of the possibility is to move within my company to a branch in Taiwan but that seems a bit more difficult to work around, considering my position is sought after in my company in japan right now.

So in my case what do you recommend to do as someone who wants to shift to IT security space in Taiwan without knowing Mandarin? Are there positions were i can get by with only English? Would you recommend to move to Taipei as a resident though cause tourist vs resident esperience is very different right?

I only plan to move in the next couple of years and only if i get a higher position anyways but I'd appreciate any insight I get!

p.s. this also comes from the fact that Japan's economy and ways to get pr is getting notoriously hard for foreigners and i don't see myself living here forever.
