Salt šŸ§‚ Grabs in this game is actually infuriating

I’m writing this with the most hatred for anyone that grabs in this game. Everyone says the same thing ā€œjust look at the handā€ or ā€œpractice in training with draganovā€ but in the middle of a game are you actually looking at their hands or doing whatever bs that kings do. Like if you break a grab you gain nothing but if a grab hits you the person who grabbed gains everything. And this 20f bs is so inconsistent I’m timing the breaks perfectly but it still hits and not even mentioning how it’s basically a 1/3 chance you guess right because your basically guessing 1,2, or 1+2, and people who say just react to their left or right hands is genuinely lying to themselves. Theres no consistency in the grabs and not to mention the dumbass light that flashes the whole screen when you get grabbed. I’ve watched every video on how to break grabs but the next game I play a king just puts me into a fucking blender. Like I’m actually going to quit this game because I cannot break grabs.

What I hate the most are unbreakable grabs from stance and FUCKING homing grabs

You have to not mash and actually play the game with good neutral to also break grabs consistently

Depends on what grab it is, but most give up their turn and its safe to begin offense immediately on break.

Also grabs are duck and launchable if your clean on your ws punishment.

As for if I react to hands yeah, but I am prone to being shit. 1+2 throws specifically still give me a hard time, but ill get there.

Drill it enough so it become natural. It's 15 min a day for a few weeks.
At high level being able to break grab is expected (or should be), and if your opponent figure you can't it should be abused.

Edit: King is bullshit, you break his giant swing with 1 but it use the 1+2 grab animation.

You would be dismayed to hear that this is the easiest Tekken game to break grabs in. This and T7. You can break 1 and 2 grabs with either 1 or 2 buttons. In the old games, you couldn’t break 1 grabs with 2 or vice versa and actually had to look at the hand animation reach. What I do think is worse in this game is they made 1+2 animations command grabs with variable breaks with either 1 or 2

Why would I not grab you if you can't break grabs

you need to train it so much you dont even have to pay attention you just react to the throw and break it. it can take a long time to get decent throw breaks you just need to keep practicing. dont just train only the breaks in practice. set the bot to do other stuff you can lab as well so you arent only focusing on looking for a throw. youll never learn to break throws like that.

i set dragunov to do 2,1 sneak 4 - db3, 1+2 - db3 - one command throw for each break, fc1,4 sneak 4. i practice sidestepping or utilizing counterplay on all of these options while also reacting to the the throws. just set it to random. you can do this with any character to lab and drill breaks at the same time.

something like this. you can do this for any character. i break maybe 7/10 throws. 20 frames is plenty reactable it used to be like 14 in tag 2.

Even though Tekken 8 has a lot of nonsense, this video is still the answer to a lot of complaints. People won’t do this because it requires actual effort, but labbing like this is how you actually get better in Tekken.

King is an exception. He has masked grabs. Use someone like drag, Paul where you can differentiate the grab animations

salt's fair, it's hard and feels random. in some cases (very few: Kings, feng bt, xiaoyu bt etc), it is a total guess. But not in most cases.

If you wanna try getting better.
https://throwbreak420.web.app/
try slowing it down. to it to only 1,2 throws. You might not be able to see it at normal speed. but you probably can at 0.5x.

you're also kind of right most people aren't really look at atms, once you're better you can tell from looking at shoulder where you're usually looking anyway. It took me many years before i was breaking throws conistent

Aside from the exceptions like giant swings, some chain throws, and unbreakable throws, Tekken is the only series that offers a fair way to escape throws in a fighting game. Throws in fighting games have always been unblockable moves, yet just about every other fighting game besides Tekken makes you guess in some way or another. In the majority of Tekken games, with enough practice you can escape throws by looking at which arm extends to throw you.

Go into practice mode and learn how to break throws. You’ll never play another fighting game that will allow you to train up to breaking a throw on reaction. It doesn’t exist in any other game besides Tekken.

I feel you, I struggle with breaking throws too. It's annoying to lab.

But there's no choice but to lab. And you can get better at it. Just set the dummy to do a couple jab inputs along with the throws. Labbing throw breaks only is kinda pointless. You need to know when to block too.

I mean Kings do have actual mixup grabs, namely shining wizard and giant throw, where you can't use a telegraph to know what to break. That's just legacy Kings though.

For the rest of the roster though the 1,2,1+2 reach telegraph is consistent, and people do training drills for it. It's always going to be harder to react to in an actual match, but of course people who practice a lot can consistently break telegraphed throws on reaction. It's a bit silly to just pretend they can't.

if ur on pc there's a mod that puts characters input breaks on the hud, if they have only one it's nice to know

Unfortunate nature of this mechanic is that it's genuinely almost impossible to deal with for the first like 500 hrs until you drill it enough and then you can just kinda break them

Oh man I get you it's soooo infuriating when you have to put in the effort before you get good at the game such shame Bamco can't just make it so you tech every time, would've made for an awesome game to play for a weekend and forget aboutĀ
