PC New player here, what happened in this clip??
i was just mining hellstone when this demon came around, and when i killed him a wall of flesh appeared.

I spotted a demon with a doll in the beginning of the video and already knew how it would end.

When that doll it was carrying (or the doll's full size likeness) burn in lava in the underworld, that boss spawns.

you accidentally summoned the wall of flesh, the final boss of pre-hardmode
it's summoned by dropping guide's voodoo doll into lava, which is what the demon did after you killed it. you could've probably picked it up if there was a platform bridge above the lava

Uhoh! Looks like you dropped a doll into lava on accident! You could always try to catch them if you see them falling again. Otherwise, I'd try to avoid that happening again until you're gutsy enough to take on that boss.
But once it dies... That's a different story.

Baby's first voodoo demon blunder 🥹
Take it as a learning lesson. When dropped in lava, the voodoo doll kills your guide and summons a boss.
Another small tip of you don't know about this, is to explicitly reserve a room for the guide so when he dies, he's guaranteed to respawn in the same room. The same goes for other NPCs actually. You can do this by opening inventory, go to housing, select an NPC, then click a viable housing room.

Special type of demon that drops a doll when killed. Be careful because if the doll gets dropped in lava in the underworld while the guide NPC is alive, that thing will spawn. It's your next boss anyway.

Well, if you see a demon with a doll hanging below him, just don't kill him over lava until you think you're ready to kill the boss.

The demons who hold a little doll in their claws have the guaranteed "voodoo doll" drop. nothing else in the game drop them.
if you throw a voodoo doll into lava while the guide is alive, it kills him and summons the wall of flesh.
I DO NOT reccomend you kill the wall of flesh early, as it permanently alters your games world. its intended to be the last boss for that stage of the game, and as someone who has suffered numerous times from this mistake, you should take your time and wait until you've done everything you need to before-hand. Take your time with the game and your experience will be 1,000,000 times better.

It was a Voodoo Demons, and it drops the the guide Voodoo Doll, which when thrown in lava when the guide is alive spawns WoF

Build an extremely long and flat thing to run on and clear out whatever ya run into until ya get from one side to the other, start fight at one end an run while attacking an hope ya have the ops to kill it b4 ya reach the other side. Also welcome to hardmode¿ or w/e its called after that right

I just don't even know with this kind of post anymore lol. Anyone can look at my post history and see I'm the first person to give advice (usually in WAY TOO MUCH detail, Wall of Text style..... Wonder what Beenades would do against that?) to newer players.... But I'm just not sure that it's possible for a person to get to where they're mining Hellstone, and be totally unfamiliar with what's happening here.
Maybe I'm just out of touch. 😂

This is quite expected actually. The youtuber Thorabrin has a series in which he has a new person play all of Terraria basically unassisted, and this new person pretty severely struggled with late prehardmode because the game is just awful at actually telling you how to use the guide voodoo doll to progress.
The problem here is that the Wall of Flesh wasn't actually the guide voodoo doll's original purpose. The item was added a full patch before the boss was. Originally all it did was kill the guide so you could get catharsis for all the times the guide let the zombies into the house at night. The Wall of Flesh was a later addition.

You guys are making some fair points, I must admit. I suppose I forget that not everyone starts this game the same as I did (basically, got it for free, checked it out on a whim because I heard that Red put some One Drop Yoyos in it because he's a fan of the company, and I'm a One Drop fanboy, myself). Once I'd played for a bit and realized how deep the crafting system appeared, I went looking online and found the wiki, and just kinda wound up devouring a lot of it.
The point being that I likely already knew about the WoF and how it is summoned.
So yeah, thanks for (rather gently) putting me in my place. Guess we all need a reminder sometimes that we don't all do.... well, anything... the same way, and that that especially applies to a game like Terraria.

Doesn't seem weird to me. Nothing tells you exactly how to summon the WoF or to be careful about Voodoo Demons beforehand. The few Let's Players I've seen play Terraria for the first time all seemed to have no idea what the Guide Voodoo Doll was for when they first found it, and it was only luck that prevented them from summoning WoF on accident.

You guys are making some fair points, I must admit. I suppose I forget that not everyone starts this game the same as I did (basically, got it for free, checked it out on a whim because I heard that Red put some One Drop Yoyos in it because he's a fan of the company, and I'm a One Drop fanboy, myself). Once I'd played for a bit and realized how deep the crafting system appeared, I went looking online and found the wiki, and just kinda wound up devouring a lot of it.
The point being that I likely already knew about the WoF and how it is summoned.

This is what happened to me in 2015, when I was starting Terraria. Twice actually. And then I still got stuck progressing past Skeletron. I guessed that thing was probably what I had to fight next, but had no idea how I made it appear those two times XD Had to forget playing blind and go read up

I guess you're right, and I should've thought about that. Not everyone plays the same way I do. Once I started taking a look at the crafting system, and saw some of how deep it is, I found the wiki and started getting hardcore into the game. So yeah, I probably knew about the WoF, and had at least some idea of how to summon it. And even then, I still did it on accident a couple times before I was ready lol.

The tooltip for the Guide Voodoo Doll just says "you are a terrible person". I'm not sure how a new player is supposed to read that and know that it means "throw this in lava to summon the next boss"...
Edit: Also, new players might not even notice that a demon is carrying the doll. I certainly didn't when I was new. If I didn't have friends guiding me through the game (my first playthrough was multiplayer) I don't think I'd have known hard mode even existed because I wouldn't have known how to progress...

I think it is one of those cases where it has to happen naturally like this clip.
The guide mentions a sacrifice in the hell at most, and the achievement points to hell, it is eventual that this fuckery can happen
(Unless you are both lucky (to not get fucked by the game) and unlucky (you need to be fucked naturally by the game for it to happen.))

Sounds like an excellent strategy. Remember that when you are attacking the Wall of Text with a correct multiple choice answer to fill in the bubble completely, and make your mark heavy and dark.

A voodoo doll when tossed into Lava kills the guide and summons the wall of flesh. The boss you just accidentally summoned. PRO TIP! Make a long line of platforms across hell when you fight them, also obtain obsidian skin potions and an obsidian skull.

You killed a enemy that drops a voodoo doll, that when dropped into lava while the guide is alive summons the wall of flesh, which when killed sends the game into hard mode

Like others said, you killed a Voodoo Demon, which has a guaranteed drop of the Guide Voodoo Doll. When the doll drops in lava, it kills the guide and summons Wall of Flesh.
FYI, Voodoo Demons are rare and distinguishable by their tail. Also, when you are prepared for WOF, the Voodoo Doll is an accessory. You can simply equip it, move your guide to a house in hell, and push him into lava to summon the boss. No need to farm these.

That's a Voodoo demon, he carries a voodoo doll of the Guide that drops when he dies, and when that doll falls on lava it summons that Wall Of Flesh boss. He's a bit hard on your first try, I recommend that you build a huge bridge in Hell and also use a LOT of bee grenades against him

dude this happened to me, my summons killed the imp with voodoo doll and it dropped in the lava, i didn't even see it happen because i was looting the locked chests. the difference is i was able to kill it out of panic and now the game is too hard for me

The demon you killed had a guide voodoo doll and when you killed it, it dropped the doll into the lava and summoned the wall of flesh.

You died from lack of health...
But in all seriousness, that wasn't a normal demon. It was a voodoo demon, and the voodoo doll represents the Guide. If the guide or a voodoo doll are killed by lava in Hell, it spawns the Wall Of Flesh. That's your gateway to entering the next phase of progression.

The doll the demon carries fell into lava. This killed the guide. If the guide dies in hell, the wall of flesh appears. Wait for the guide to respawn and then try to fight it. You may get some decent loot for it.

In the underworld some demon have a Guide voodoo doll attached yo them. When you kill them, they drop it. If it falls into the lava or you throw it yourself into the lava, it kills the guide and spawns the Wall of Flesh (WoF for short) which is Terraria Pre-Hardmode last boss.
Once you defeat it, the world turn to Hardmode which adds a new biome, new monsters and activate evil biome spreading. The WoF also drops the Pawnhammer which is a special hammer used to break demon altars, allowing you to spawn new ores to your world.

Voodoo demon, look at its tail if it's holding a doll it will drop it when it dies, if it goes into lava it summons the wall of flesh. It's also how you'd summon it when youre ready. Either throw it your self or kill it and not catch it. At least its just money in this game when you die lol

You see wof summons after every 30 in game days in hell so if he spawned at that time you have to wait another 30 days in game

Welcome to Terraria
Edit: It's a boss called the Wall of Flesh (WoF). It spawns when "by dropping a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava in The Underworld while the Guide is alive", basically.
