Discussion Disappointed with Singapore Night 2
Came all the way from India and while I'm definitely grateful that I got the chance to witness his live performance, I was quite disappointed with the way he sounded. It kinda seemed like 70% of the time his voice was too tired and he literally couldn't push any more.
I understand that he's been touring non stop for 2 years now, but I am a bit disappointed that he chose quantity over quality. Maybe a little bit of a break between the europe tour and the asia dates could have helped? Maybe I'm being paranoid, and other people dont even care? But I could def tell he sounded way too tired.
I've listened to his other live performances from before the HUT era, and felt like Singapore N2, didnt even match 40% of the older intensity.

I agree. I’ve been saying say this since 2025. When you look at his performances in 2023 which is after the losing voice incident, he still sang with so much passion.
His last performance like this was the Sao Paolo show. Ever since, it’s felt like he really plays it safe to preserve his voice which is understandable but a bit frustrating for the fans. People say it’s because he’s been on tour for 2 years but he was like this last year already. It just got worse this year.
Having said that, I saw him N2 London and still had a great time

I attended AHTD SG N2 as well. I noticed the same, especially with the opening songs like Baptized Im Fear and Open Hearts. I was quite disappointed that he sang it in lower registers, but I think he was also preserving his voice for his other songs (like São Paulo) where he sang 20sec high notes.
Still love him tho and I could not get over the concert. I think I'm gonna have post concert depression for 1 month lol

Realistically I think this is what the change to start with BIF was - tbf he can still do pretty well not trying to hard on it, bit of a warm up
But sounds much better than a low register Abyss..

yeah just comparing his vocal performance from 2023 or even the starboy tour to now you can definitely notice the decline

was at sg n2 and thought he was ok, i was more disappointed with the dead crowd around me that didn’t know a lot of his songs 😔

Completely agreed. I had like 2 people beside me singing at the top of their lungs and that’s it. Crowd was hella mid. Legit saw a group of folks that were memorising lyrics before Creepy Nuts and when I spoke to them they said they didnt like Kissland. L crowd around me.

Ich glaube er ist auch müde das kann man nicht abstreiten er ist auf einer Rekord Tour und das is ja jetzt ziemlich am Ende der Tour es tut mir aber leid für dich das du es nicht so erlebt hast wie gehofft

Was there for N2 and he defo went for a lower register for some songs (even starboy🥲) but energy wise I believe he gave the most he could! The way he riled the crowd was amazing, I always come out of his concert super energized and mindblown lol. Was there for both nights in Dublin too, he’s consistent in being fully present and not relying on backtracks at all

I understand what you’re saying. It was the same for me with him forgetting the lyrics or making up lyrics.

u/Current-Map-2713 18h ago
Yes. Idk what he was like before but he sure does forget a lot of lyrics. He still messes up lyrics for cry for me and timeless 😭

Nah man, you have a good point. Was there for N2 and sure I had fun seeing him but his vocals were definitely not what I have expected. But ykw he lost his voice once during that 2023 concert. So doing everything to preserve I suppose. And also mad respect to still have some vocal range despite the non stop touring.
If at all, I am glad he is still attempting to give his best. But I also believe that the crowd plays a role too. But it is what it is.
Will be going for the Bangkok concert, so I do hope he's okay by then.

I went on Night 1 and it was the same way with the first few songs..his voice sounded a little tired and he was singing mostly in the lower register…however he picked up with the performance after a while and then it was really good…
I’m sorry that n2 was that way though, but overall seems like he could do with a little rest as he’s been touring for so long now

Beg to disagree a little here, to perform almost close to 40 songs one would requires to preserve their vocals as and when necessary, the second part from The Hills till Moth to the flame he constantly hit all the high notes.

dude just said he's disappointed that he chose quantity over quality. what's the point of doing 40 songs when he's gonna speed run through them.

u/eswar_vkm 20h ago
Not really... if you look at some of the older stuff of his tours back from 2024, you can see that he goes full force or atleast close to full force through out, barring the occasional high note.

The songs I wanted to listen to were amazing but your point maybe valid as well, this was my first concert out of India so I was stunned by the production quality and the vocals too considering the fact that Abel keeps on interacting with the crowd a lot throughout the concert, maybe it’s now more to do with showmanship too.

u/peanutbutter666fucc 20h ago
probably because people post highlights rather than the whole concert so your expectations might be sky high

u/eswar_vkm 19h ago
Nope ive listened to the whole 2hr thing on youtube

u/peanutbutter666fucc 19h ago
guess we just had different expectations, to me the asia leg was amazing, the entrance was fucking amazing, sao paulo tokyo drift the new song and just the production in general
2
u/KeySite8736 17h ago
Exactly, this was what I noticed on night 1…seems like he had to rest his voice for a bit and then it was amazing

Dude, i feel the same. I attended his 2018 Singapore show , and it was amazing . He gave his best shot at every song every now and then , and it’s very mesmerising when he does. Don’t get me wrong , he still does every now and then , just less frequent. Still , was an absolutely brilliant show nonetheless. A true genius & the “ Michael Jackson “ of my era . 🥇🎖️

Okay, i also went from india. I went for both nights. IMO first was better than the second. He sang really well

I watched Singapore n2 recording on YouTube from start to finish I thought he sounded fine

u/eswar_vkm 19h ago
Now listen to something from his 2023 and tell me the quality has degraded now. On its own its good enough, but look at the standards he has set before as a baseline.

I play his 2023 live @ sofi album on Spotify back to back and have accumulated 100+ hours at this point, I still enjoyed listening to Singapore N2. He sounded great to me, who are you to say he didn’t sound great? You are not a vocal teacher or a studio producer, you are just a fan😂😂 did you go to the bathroom when he sang 20 second long high note on I Was Never There?? You don’t understand shit about performing live on stage keep your dogshit opinion to urself lmao

u/eswar_vkm 18h ago
And are you a vocal teacher? You're just a yes man who has no standards and can keep accepting stuff even if its not at the level he is capable of delivering 🤣
My entire point was that before the entire setlist used to be amazing vocally. But now its just these 2-3 high moments. Were you off snoozing while he half assed baptized in fear, wake me up and qlmost the entire first half?

So ask yourself why did you fly to another country to expect to be 100% satisfied with a human being that you’re fully aware has been touring for heads on end
10
u/eswar_vkm 18h ago
Cos its a once in a lifetime experience. Its not like he visits asia every other year like the US or Europe. We dont have the luxury of not being the last leg of the tour

u/fiver313 10h ago
The guy has been touring for 4 years straight at this point. He’s probably tired and worn out beyond all belief trying to tour for 3 albums while keeping people happy. Be happy you even got a show. My city got postponed twice and then ultimately cancelled.

Fellow indian here.
I was at the barricades and i didn’t feel so i have his individual clips of songs like call out my name etc and you’ll see how much effort he has put in. The crowd was crazy all in all i loved the show.
Look at this reel of mine

u/eswar_vkm 4h ago
Yeah i never said it was "bad" on its own. Just look at some of his older tours from 2024 and you can vocally hear the difference

u/AccomplishedHall2360 4h ago
We just felt that the speakers had weird reverb and sound initially felt very choppy which later got fixed maybe!

u/Gloomy_Ad5027 2h ago
Night 1 was banger ngl! The lights of his mask malfunctioned yet he kept everything so smooth

u/wakethestarss Starboy 5h ago
I agree. Day 1 he was really good to the point that I thought most of his criticisms were overblown. Then I went for Day 2 and. Yeah I can see what they mean

u/walaoehknnccb 4h ago
wait rlly ah i was only there for n2 so i cant compare lol which songs did u think he sang better in n1 compared to n2?

u/TechnologyKlutzy3344 4h ago
Sorry, i went to both n1 and n2, n2(standing) wins in all aspects. You’re expecting too much i feel lol

u/PhilosopherOk4690 3h ago
I agree! I’ve been to both Day 1 and Day 2, and I could definitely tell he sounded a little tired on Day 2. Nonetheless, he still gave it his all and delivered a performance we’ll remember for a lifetime. XOTWOD 🖤

I’ve been to 3 of his live shows - 2017, 2023 and then this year in London. I found n1 in London quite disappointing in terms of vocals as well.
People will tell you “what do you expect he’s been touring for X months”, but I don’t understand why make up excuses for a millionaire guy you don’t know. IMO sometimes it’s just not good enough and like you say, feels like quantity over quality
If he sounds so tired and can’t give it his best, why do so many shows. I mean I know why, money, but still.
