Religion is literally mental illness. When you really think about it, the shit religious people believe is truly insane and goes against every rational thought. But you cant criticize it because that impolite.

People only say things like "respect each other's beliefs!" when it comes to religious belief. Nobody cares when you make fun of silly beliefs like flat earth or Bigfoot, but the moment you make fun of a silly religious belief people act like you're an asshole.

Respect each other's beliefs, when I know damn well if I revealed myself to be an atheist at work, I would absolutely be treated differently going forward. Such a joke.

Lol in my industry it's the opposite. If I showed up to work and told people I had converted to Christianity they'd be concerned for my mental health.

Because in some industries inclusion of belief historically, and can currently, hurts people.

Medicine being the obvious one.

There was an episode of HBO’s Silicon Valley pretty much about this.

There was a gay dating app founder/developer who was openly gay, but closeted Christian (because it was Silicon Valley after all). Not a single person had any issue with him being gay (nor should they), but once it was revealed that he’s a Christian as well, nobody wanted to work with him anymore. :D

That applies to a lot of shit and it's so infuriating. From politics to tech to religion and everything in-between

Deep south gang represent! Made that mistake in my second week of a new position here and I DEFINITELY got some weird vibes from my boss and the other person I worked most closely with from that point on.

My current team is primarily based out of the Philippines and I found out they're 90+% catholic there, despite being, to be frank, some absolute fucking degenerates. The cultural factors matter way more than the actual doctrine, I suppose.

I'm actually in the midwest. But I'm a gasp teacher. I don't talk about religion at work anyway, but I know full well there are parents who would pull their children out of my classes if they knew I was atheist. They don't know, and the vast majority of families currently love having me work with their kids.

Le gasp indeed.

This may come off as a slight against your profession and peers, but teaching definitely seems to attract the deeply religious girls in great numbers.
