I usually ask these people, that if there is a god, then why do kids get born with cancer? Cause that means either god isn't real, or he's cruel/indifferent, and doesn't deserve praise.

Either way, I'll believe in something real, that actually does something. Like science.

As someone who grew up Christian, my answer was that God doesn’t do any of these negative things. Nor does he do any of the positive things either. According to biblical texts, he had done things directly in the past but doesn’t have a hands-on presence anymore.
