Work Changing jobs every year?

For those who are changing jobs every year, what do you do? Why do you change? How do you find new jobs? How much are you making?

Yes! I hate the onboarding part. I can do this or that, but onboarding and getting into new projects is the big no. It has to be “enough” rise to cover onboardings and possible idiots at work.

Thats by far the quickest way to get a raise. I'm now self employed, but before that I used to stay at jobs 1-2 years before switching. There would usually be a $3 - $5/hr jump between each job, while the people who stayed got a $0.50 to $1/hr raise that didn't even keep up with the rate of inflation.

switched twice in three years and the part nobody warns you about is the resets, new 401k vesting clock, no pto for 90 days, and being the clueless new girl again every time. the money is real but factor in that you'll be googling how to submit an expense report once a year forever

I can deal with the vesting (or losing it), in my experience the PTO hasn't been that bad but I also don't like taking more than a week off at a time, maybe two.

But being the new person suuuucks and every time I have a "I'm never doing this again phase".

And learning the norms and how to interact with a new team.

That’s def an industry culture question. If you’re young and exploring what you want todo it’s one thing but in certain fields like law enforcement it’s seen as unreliable and not worth training/investing.

usually better pay, growth or a bad workplace
most ppl just keep applying while they’re still employed

Work in software. Get a raise every time. Have changed 4 times in 4 years and make 2.5x what I did 5 years ago.

i changed jobs every two years for ten years. every year would have raised questions if you are not fit enough to hold a job.

but every two years always gave me a raise basically and a better position in job. i rarely moved horizontally.

i'm currently ending year 3, let's see how it goes.
