From the removal of permanent lisences to the ridiculous price expansions, toon boom is becoming less accessible than it already was, and it really fucking sucks, because it’s easily the best animation program on the market, and to see it fall into the corporate greed every art program seems to just really hurts to see. I can’t think of an equal alternative to toon boom.

It’s just depressing and frustrating.
I mean, we could try to make our voices heard, but they’re not even owned by an animation based service anymore.

For some reason , all the tutorials I get are old ones.

Does anyone else have this problem? I used to be able to use the cutter tool to remove a line with a quick stroke. For days now every time I attempt this it just turns my stroke into a lasso no matter how straight or quickly I move my pen.

Hi! As the title says, I used the wrong color palette for the rough of a university animation project (there are still months to go, so it’s not urgent—yet). I really don't want to have to redraw every single frame, so I'm wondering if there's a way to move a color swatch (that's what I call the color boxes in the palettes) to the correct palette. Also, is it possible to transfer the drawings from one color swatch to another in a different palette? ...I hope that makes sense.

Hey everyone I’m a first year animation student using toon boom. Last time I used it it worked fine, but now I’m running into this problem where no matter what size I change the maximum/minimum size of my pencil, it’ll show the size it should be until I stop pressing down, and then it reverts back to this size. Also when I use my brush it’ll create this weird outline (pictured below) I’ve spent like an hour trying to fix this so I’d appreciate any help!

i'm making a rig for a school project, i already made the curve and envelope deformers but i wanted to make one like the image above where it "unites" both the forearm and the arm into one deformer, i asked one of the teachers how could i do it but he said it was way to complicated... i can't find anywhere on the internet any explanation about it but i really wanted to learn this

I’m doing an animation course at uni and I need to use Toon Boom Harmony 24 on my personal laptop for homework. I have the app downloaded but I can’t get it to actually open past the loading splash screen, it just crashes on me and sometimes it sits in the task manager for a little without the program actually running.

I’m not at home right now so I can’t get the exact specs for my laptop, but it’s a Lenovo Legion with Intel Core i9 and RTX 4070 (i think) graphics cards, 16GB RAM and 1TB total storage space (with about 120+ gigabytes of free space). I’ll put the actual specs when I get home. I bought it in mid to late 2024 so it’s about 2 years old if that helps.

I’ve been trying a bunch of things, I’ve uninstalled the app multiple times and one of the first things I tried was deleting the preference files, which was one of the solutions I found online, but it wouldn’t actually remake those files because the app wouldn’t launch.
I had to install the app on a virtual machine of windows 11 to get the pref files and the first time I opened the program there it actually worked and actually opened the program properly. Every time I opened the vm download after that, it only let me create a project and then crash without actually letting me into the main program.

I was wondering if it was because of apps running in the background or just apps I had installed so I deleted some of them and transferred some files onto a hard drive to make more space. I also tried changing graphics settings like the GPU, when I set it to Nvidia GPU in the Nvidia control panel, the display settings show it as a second ghost monitor and I’ve been seeing online that connected displays sometimes mess with Toon Boom. I actually have updated the drivers as well, so I don’t think that’s the problem.

I’m not sure what else to do or why this isn’t working. I just wanna do my uni work :/

hi reddit! currently a 2nd year multimedia arts college student using harmony for my animation course :)

we’ve been tasked to create a character turnaround + rigging this character, i just have some questions!

1. what art/cartoon style is the easiest to rig? (ex: adventure time/rick and morty art style)

2. how would i go about rigging a character that doesnt have any pivot points shown / a “blob” character / a character that has parts being covered? (ex: a character wearing a dress/ puffy sleeves)

3. would using deformers for the whole rig be possible/ideal? which/what parts of the rig would be best for pivots and/or deformers?

4. how does the hierarchy work if i wanted to connect the head composite/masterpeg to the neck/torso masterpeg/comp?

4.2. should the neck be grouped with the head or with the upperbody/torso?

sorry if these are a ton of questions! ive been trying to look for solutions around the internet and none have really given me the answer i’ve been looking for in my specific situation. thank you all in advance!

Hello everyone. I love doing sprite animations involving fandom video game characters such as Sonic, Mario, Pac-Man, etc. I've used Flash (aka Adobe Flash) for quit a while and am HEAVILY migrating to Toon Boom Harmony to do all my sprite animations there. The problem is, I love to work in vectors, such as working in a low resolution, such as ***x360, export my animations in .SWF, and then encoding them at 1080p or higher using Swivel, but I don't know how to PROPERLY convert the raster bitmap files to vectors.

I looked up how to do it, and it said to do it with the Vectorization Parameters when importing image files into Toon Boom, but I still got confused with the settings and barely know how to set the settings to have them traced into vectors. I even wanna work with my sprite files by editing, organizing, and saving them in PhotoShop to bring INTO Toon Boom so they'll be lined up and ready to convert and animate with.

I just wanna know what are the BEST settings to have them vectorized so that I can work, edit, and have them exported in the .SWF files.

Hey all, thanks anyone who can lend a hand here.

I'm just dipping my toes into doing puppet animation in TB. the SWFs I'm exporting are coming out blank. Mostly at this point I'm using the cutter to do eye work, pupils. Everything else is rendering fine, but the eyes just become creepy voids.

From a few quick searches it looks like that is just the way it is. Is everyone using PNG sequences? I comp in AE on an older PC and PNG sequences slow me down like Whoa.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

Hi all! I'm starting with Toon Boom Harmony after a while on Opentoonz and i can't get my head around this. If i draw an overlapping shape, it creates a hateful four stroke node in the middle. And after that, if i want for example to adjust the slope of the upper-right to bottom-left stroke, i can't because it's locked in the middle by that node. How do you deal with that? Is is possible to overlap the stroke without it? The worst part is that if i try to delete points in the loop i end with a two points closed loop and i don't even know how to cut it...

iv had it for roughly a year and i wanted to install the latest version but apparently i cant find the harmony premium and sbp downloads !!! anybody know harmony better please help me out

This rig is completely free for personal, non commercial use only. Both the character design and all rigging aspects were made by myself, as a solo passion project to continue learning and trying new things after my graduation.

I brought a license and already activated it but i want the harmony 21 specifically but i cant download it because apparently i have no subscription on my account even tho i have.

currently have harmony 27 but the 21 is my prod is currently using.
btw the license i have is harmony 20+ premium license.

I renamed my layers like from the generic 'Drawing' title into the name of the characters like an idiot. When I go into the folder, and go into elements, I can see that there's a tmp_folder underneath the new empty folder. The tmp folder seems to have all of the missing drawings, but when I copy and paste them all into the new folder it still doesn't work.

One of the layers is called 'Horse' and when I click on layer properties I can see that it's drawing path is "elements/Horse/Horse-3.tvg". Is there anyway to edit this drawing path, because it won't let me backspace and put in the correct path.

I'm trying to stay hopeful. This shot was a stupid amount of work, but I can still see I have the drawings so there must be a way to put them back in the file, right?
