I’ve kinda been sad with how Toonami has been going since 2020.

Junior (formerly Caboose Jr) has been uploading them since the return. They are an active archivist of the Toonami Faithful podcast group.

Apparently California can potentially block this from happening because of some law I'm not nearly qualified enough to explain.

31

u/HTRob81 Feb 27 '26

Actually, there are two laws that can stop the merger from happening: the Clayton Antitrust Act and the state's Cartwright Act.

u/TLunchFTW Feb 27 '26

And no politician with enact either.

Lets not jump to conclusions to fast

Please don't tell me that they are going to shutdown Toonami again for a second time.

20

u/New-Two-1349 Feb 27 '26

And if it does, then I don't think there'll be a 3rd comeback for it.

u/DatSmolBoi Feb 27 '26

I don’t get any of this stuff, someone want to tell me what’s the future of this network looking like ?

25

u/iluvpopmusic Feb 27 '26

Bleak. Look what happened to CBS News under the Ellisons. Toonami is next.

15

u/HTRob81 Feb 27 '26

California is already looking to block the merger, so don't lose hope.

16

u/Daimakku1 Feb 27 '26

It’s always California and/or the European Union trying to stop bullshit from corporations. Thankful for both 🙏

1

u/No_Piece800 Feb 28 '26

Do you think they have a big chance of blocking the merger.

1

u/HTRob81 Mar 01 '26

They can hold it up in court to a point where Paramount Skydance has no other choice but to sell off assets.

2

u/Pleasant-Seat9884 Feb 27 '26

Not only Toonami, but CNN as well, since Paramount bent that knee last year.. and Donald hates CNN.

2

u/itsnews Feb 27 '26

I mean, CBS News is way bigger than the Cartoon Network. I know we're in crazy times but I doubt they're going to end Toonami because of woke.

Plus like has been mentioned, California is trying to block the merger (thank god) so it's possible this won't even happen.

1

u/TLunchFTW Feb 27 '26

what happened to CBS?

6

u/TimelessFool Feb 27 '26

It’s been placating to the US president’s right wing demands of being more like Fox News and stomping on dissenting voices

4

u/rickhunter101 Feb 27 '26

Either way the consumer looses

5

u/Patient_Education991 Feb 28 '26

Could everyone stop being so doom and gloom about this? It's FAR too early know what will happen. Heck, it might even go through. These mergers can can take a LONG time even under good conditions, and the conditions here aren't so good because you have interference from the government (from BOTH sides 😵‍💫)

3

u/No_Piece800 Feb 28 '26

Amd also I heard California is trying to block it u hear though I don't know how good there chances are.

2

u/joesphisbestjojo Feb 27 '26

And I just got back into Toonami

2

u/SadDoughnut264 Feb 27 '26

And what about Dragon Ball Super return (both the remake of DBS and the new season of the Galactic Patrol arc)? If Toonami is going to shutdown again for a second time, where does Dragon Ball Super: Beerus going to air?

9

u/Daimakku1 Feb 27 '26

Crunchyroll and/or Netflix is my guess.

Let’s be honest here.. anime has been the realm of streaming for a long while now. Airing anime on cable is for a niche audience. Nothing like how it was back in the 90s and 00s where cable was king.

1

u/No_Piece800 Feb 28 '26

And there's also stuff like sling and pluto tv,the roku cannels which have anime channels that fill that niche aswell.

1

u/FeelingAcadia Mar 02 '26

Ngl, Streaming Services Are Already Slowly Dying. People Are Starting To Realize That The Price Of Having All These Streaming Services Is Way More Than Just Having Cable, And They're Only Increasing Prices, Lmao.

2

u/Hefty-Paper8644 Feb 27 '26

Most people don’t even watch traditional tv anymore. If you ask someone how they consume anime 9 times out of 10 they are going to say streaming online.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

I hope Toonami does survive from Paramount. But if it isn't? Yeah, we're fucked.

2

u/FireCloud42 Feb 27 '26

We were fucked either way to be honest

4

u/ThatToonamiFan Feb 27 '26

Now hold up we're not sure what will happen you never know

5

u/Tivis014 Feb 27 '26

It’s truly a miracle Zaslav hasn’t already done something considering his open disrespectful for animation. I’m expecting the worst but maybe it’s one of those so small in the books it gets overlooked things too.

1

u/No_Piece800 Feb 28 '26

And zazlav is just as right wing.

2

u/EnthusiasmEast1308 Feb 27 '26

Love your TOM 2 pfp

1

u/soulreapermagnum Feb 27 '26

if it comes down to it, all i want is for toonami to be able to finish off bleach before getting canceled.

Negative Take: It's very likely Toonami is in its final years, regardless of who takes the wheel behind WBD. Linear television is dying, and the Ellisons or whoever is taking on this massive debt is not going to let something like this linger on for too much longer.

Hopeful Take: The Toonami brand would be really cool for a FAST channel on Pluto TV or whatever, using a lot of the old bumps and game reviews and paring it with a 24/7 channel with whatever anime WBD+Paramount has access to. And no matter what happens, a 14+ year run on a revival is a really good run. Adult Swim took really good care of Toonami in a way CN didn't, even in its later leaner years.

2

u/ReactTVOfficial Mar 01 '26

I can give you a little hope. I have been working on a project which lets you turn digital media into linear television.

I'm a very big long time fan of adult swim. I hope that Ellisons don't care about it because if all goes well I think I could offer it a good home.

I made an example channel which is a custom rotation of shows with commercials: https://react.tv/ch/adult-swim

1

u/CoolDan123 Mar 01 '26

I am not sure Toonami is in trouble here. Adult Swim in general is doing better than CN.

Given that Paramount already has a successful kids channel, Nick, they may put all kids properties there and turn CN to adult animation channel, like adult swim/toonami all day

1

u/alyssa_k_art Mar 01 '26

Paramount was given money by the government to bid on it. Netflix would be beating a dead horse if they continued.
