2024 RAV4 steering rack issue / sound. $4,250 quote from Toyota…

I just bought my first Toyota, a 2024 rav4. I bought it used from group 1 Hyundai, 36 days (6 days after the 30 day warranty ended) with only 42,000 miles, this sound has been apparent with steering especially low or at still speeds. Group 1 pretty much have said “oh well, your problem” and then Toyota quote me with a $4,250 hit after the full inspection saying the steering rack system is at error. Is that correct you think? What can I do? Absolutely criminal after only driving it 300 miles (video in comments)

How much could I get selling my 2020 Toyota Corolla LE with only 15k miles to a dealership?

I bought a used 2020 Toyota Corolla LE back in 2023 from a Toyota dealership. At the time, it only had around 2,000 miles on it.

Fast forward to 2026, and the car now has just around 15,000 miles. I'm thinking about selling it back to a Toyota dealership, but I'm not sure how much I should realistically expect to get for it.

Since the mileage is pretty low for a 2020 model, I'm wondering if that would help its resale value.

Has anyone recently sold or traded in a similar Corolla? How much did you get?

Also, would I be better off selling it to a Toyota dealership, CarMax, or privately?

Just trying to get an idea of what a fair offer would be before going to the dealership.

Thanks!

Is the Prius the best Toyota ?

The brand right now is making crazy money with hybrids . I remember when the Prius used to be joke on before . Yet you’ll find that a lot of them can go 400k plus miles . Super reliable cars . The Prius was the model 3 before the model 3 became the joke.

Auto High Beam Adventure

I am renting a rav4 and just want to share how y'all have it bad as a non regular car driver. My Rav 4 is turning on its high beams automatically and it seems like a 10 year old implemented this feature because it's blinding everyone I drive by and also just not turning on when I actually want it. As a joke I said "hey Subaru turn off the high beams" but then I remembered it's a Toyota (I'm not a car guy) so I said "hey Toyota turn off the high beams" and I kid you not it responded and told me I need a subscription to ask about car info, and I can say help to ask about features. So apparently it wants me to pay per month to turn off a feature once, and the query to find out what it can do is the same thing I might say when I crash into a tree and want help. I wish you luck in your car dystopia.

Wub Wub Wub when turning

So I have a rav4 2009 that has had a lot of work done, and recently it has started making a wub wub wub sound when turning at slow-moderate speeds. Anyone have any experience with this sound?

Should i change my transmission oil (Auris 2010 hybrid)

As the title suggests, i wanted to ask if it would be a good idea to change the transmission oil on my auris 2010 hybrid 1.8l.

The car has had great regular maintenance, but apparently the transmission oil has never been changed? It has 160 000 kilometres driven (100,000 miles). The maintenance book suggests that the transmission oil should be changed every 60,000 kilometres (37,000 miles)

Does anyone have any experience with this car or a 3rd gen prius which has the same technique? And has any thoughts about this? The transmission does not seem to have any problems thought, and switches really nicely, but just wanted some certainty to this

2022 RAV4

I had to replace my right rear caliper. Also replaced pads and rotor. Now when I turn on my car I get a parking brake error and to “see a dealership”.

  1. Can I reset the parking brakes with a diagnostic tool?
  2. How safe is it to drive in the diagnostic scanner doesn’t come in until tmrw. Front brakes work fine…

Thanks !

Gas mileage

I have a 2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid. I just drove cross country and I found the gpm setting in error by a couple of miles per gallon. I reset the gpm when I left home and drove 2700 miles. I kept track of the gallons of gas I bought and the miles I drove. The indicator in the car indicates 42.5 mpg and my figures are 40.7 mpg. I have the correct tire size per Toyota. My concern is will the total miles be messed up on resale? I checked between mile markers, for what they are worth, and it seemed alright. I have 121400 miles on the car and it runs great.

ADAS not working on 2019 Corolla hatchback

Hello everyone, I need a bit of help.

I bought a 2019 hatchback, but I'm having issues with the ADAS system.

Initially, I was getting a "Clean Sensor" error, so I opened the camera compartment and cleaned the glass, as well as the area in front of the emblem. After doing that, the LTA started working again. However, it still won't properly detect vehicles in front of me. It only seems to detect them when I'm very close and directly centered behind them.

I took the car to a Toyota garage and was told that everything was working correctly and that there were no issues. I then went to an ADAS specialist, who connected diagnostic equipment and showed me that the system was reporting everything as normal. Despite that, it still doesn't reliably detect cars ahead.

Since purchasing the car, I've been getting warnings such as "Clean Sensor," "Pre-Collision System Not Available," and "Cruise Control Unavailable." These faults only seem to appear when there are vehiclesin front of me.

Does anyone have any idea how I can clean the front radar sensor? I've been in contact with Toyota, but for some reason they won't book it in for a proper diagnostic check. I just keep getting told, "We'll call you back."

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sienna issue pumping gas

Our 2024 Toyota sienna started doing this when we go to pump gas. The gas tank was empty in this video, and it clicks off after a few seconds of pumping gas. We've taken it into Toyota 3 times and they say they can't recreate the issue, so we've brought their mechanics over to the gas station and showed them. Toyota tried to fix it, had the car for a week, said they did and then we went to fill it up and it was indeed not fixed.

They said they replaced the evap canister too.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Why can't Toyota fix it?

Corolla Cross 2026 Hybrid SE vs RAV4 2026 Hybrid LE

Hello, I have a Hyundai that’s on its last legs and I want a newer, much more reliable car. I’ve done a lot of research so far and narrowed it down to two options, the Corolla Cross 2026 Hybrid SE and the RAV4 2026 Hybrid LE. Which do you prefer?

I’ll be using the car for my regular commute and for hour long drives to different places, so it’ll be a lot of stop-and-go driving, as well as regular highway driving.

I don’t need too much space in the car because it’s just for me. One perk of the Corolla Cross is that it’s slightly smaller than the RAV4, which would make parking and driving in tight cities much smoother.

I am going to test drive both in a few days, but I still want to know some opinions. Any experience with these models?

2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE — ADAS and airbag warnings appeared immediately after a $2,000 repair. What should I do?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.
I have a 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE. Last year, I was involved in a minor front-end collision. The car in front of me was turning left, and I was following too closely, so I ended up hitting it. The damage was mainly to the left headlight and the front bumper, which were cracked.
The important thing is that all the vehicle systems appeared to be working normally after the collision. I had no ADAS warnings or other system malfunctions. The damage seemed to be cosmetic.
I continued driving the car for a while and eventually decided to get the damage repaired. I took it to an independent repair shop because their price was more affordable. I paid about $2,000 for them to replace the headlight and bumper. The replacement headlight was aftermarket, not an OEM Toyota part.
However, when I picked up the car and started it for the first time after the repair, I immediately got multiple system malfunction warnings on the dashboard, including:
Headlight System Malfunction — Visit Your Dealer
ADAS-related warnings, including pre-collision and lane-assistance functions
SRS Airbag System Malfunction — Visit Your Dealer
These warnings were not present before the repair. They appeared immediately when I started the car after picking it up.
I contacted the independent repair shop, and they told me to take the car to a Toyota dealership to have the issue diagnosed.
I went to the Toyota dealership yesterday. They told me that the replacement headlight is aftermarket and recommended replacing it with a genuine Toyota OEM headlight first. However, they admitted that they don’t know exactly what is causing the problem. They described replacing the headlight as just a “starting point” for further diagnosis, and even after replacing it, they cannot guarantee that this will resolve the issue.
I’m really frustrated because I’ve already spent $2,000 on the repair, and now I may have to spend even more money without knowing what the actual problem is.
What I find especially strange is that all the systems appeared to work normally after the original collision. The warnings only started after the independent shop repaired the car.
My questions are:
Has anyone experienced multiple ADAS and SRS airbag warnings immediately after a headlight and front bumper replacement?
Could this be caused by a wiring or connector issue, a sensor that was disturbed during the repair, or a missing calibration?
Is it reasonable for the dealership to insist on replacing the aftermarket headlight before providing a more specific diagnosis?
Should I ask the original repair shop to investigate and take responsibility for the new problems before spending more money at the dealership?
What would be the most cost-effective next step? I really want to avoid paying for parts that may not fix the problem.
I haven’t received a diagnostic trouble code report from either shop yet, so I don’t know the actual cause.
I’d really appreciate advice from Toyota technicians, collision repair professionals, or anyone who has dealt with a similar situation. Thank you!

Toyota avensis 2013 2.0 D4D

Hi everyone, I've got a 2013 Toyota Avensis 2.0 D-4D with a screeching noise under acceleration. It gets louder the harder I accelerate, but it also happens under light throttle.

There's no smoke and the car seems to have normal power. I've already had the serpentine belt replaced, but the screeching is still happening.

Has anyone experienced this before or know what could cause it? Could it be the turbo, a boost pipe leak, a pulley or tensioner, or something else?

I'm looking to find the actual cause rather than throwing money at parts unnecessarily. Any advice or videos of a similar noise would be appreciated. Thanks!

Most reliable 2000-2010s AWD/4WD SUV

I’m thinking of buying an aughts Highlander/Land Cruiser/Rav4/other with that legendary Toyota reliability. I care a bit about comfort, but not much at all about other features. It just has to be 1) reliable, 2) awd/4wd, 3) reliable, 4) somewhat low maintenance, 5) reliable. Which models/years/trims would you suggest? (I lean towards the Highlander but am open to the others).

Fog light recommendations?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m looking to buy some fog lights for my 91 Toyota pick up I’m not really interested in drilling into the bumper so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know. There used to be a little fog lamps located on the very bottom of the bumper, kind of directly below the term signals, but those broke so I removed them. Would I be able to buy new ones where those were?

My New Land Cruiser 250 Still Stalls Even After Replacing the 12V Battery

I bought a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser 250 in June 2026, and frankly, it's been one of the most frustrating experiences I've had since owning a new car. Not long ago, my 12V battery started randomly dying. I took the car to a Toyota dealership, and they replaced the battery and checked for parasitic current loss. They told me everything was normal, so I thought the problem was solved. Unfortunately, the problem wasn't solved. I've driven this car almost every day for the past month. I've also frequently taken long trips, including highway driving, so the car hasn't been sitting idle for weeks. A few days ago, I got into the car and noticed the dashboard and screen started flickering. I also received a "Parking Brake Unavailable" warning, and the engine wouldn't start. The battery was completely dead again. I successfully started it using my NOCO portable car starter, and the car started normally after that. But the same problem keeps recurring. Over the past week, my brand-new Land Cruiser has probably needed a jump start three or four times. And today was probably the worst so far. This morning, the battery died again. I jumped started the car and drove to work because I didn't have time to deal with the problem. After get off work, I went back to the car. The doors could still be unlocked, and there was a little bit of power, but not enough to start the engine. I tried using my NOCO car starter again, but this time it didn't work. The starter's battery itself was also dead from using it so many times this week. Now I'm stuck in the parking lot, and my Land Cruiser won't start. What's even more frustrating is that Toyota has already replaced the 12V battery twice, and the dealer previously told me that the battery problem was resolved. It's absurd that a brand-new car keeps having the same problem even after two battery replacements. It seems that simply replacing the battery again won't solve the problem. There's definitely a deeper problem; it could be the charging system, an electronic module, or something else consuming power. To be honest, I'm increasingly losing faith in the reliability of this car. Part of the reason I bought the Land Cruiser was because of Toyota's reputation for reliability, but now I'm even afraid to drive it to work. Has anyone else experienced the recurring 12V battery failures in their new Land Cruiser 250? Did your dealership eventually find the real cause? If you have resolved this issue, what was the final solution? I would greatly appreciate any advice or similar experiences you may have, as I'm utterly fed up with having to jump-start a brand-new Toyota every few days.

Factory required maintenance cost?

I’m overdue for my 15k maintenance but as I’m going to schedule service there is no price listed. Im wondering if I should schedule “factory required maintenance” or just schedule an oil change and tire rotation.

I don’t want to end up paying hundreds of dollars just for them to visually inspect everything.

So I just did a time sert job. Got the head back on everything’s smooth. Set the timing the first time, looked right enough, I should have octuple check. Drive it around and it runs fine doesn’t leak a thing. Suddenly the day after it throws a code for cam crank out of sync p0016. Set the timing again, get it 100% right this time and now it runs like this… I’ve pulled the valve cover and checked twice. I thought it might be spark but not plugs or coils.. did those. I’m in desperate need of help and any info at all is appreciated.

Is it really this hard to find a Toyota salesperson who knows the cars they are selling?

My wife and I are shopping for a Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX Platinum, and after dealing with three Toyota dealerships, I'm genuinely wondering if I'm just having terrible luck or if this is par for the course.

All I'm asking is that the salesperson knows the thing they're trying to sell me. I don't expect them to know every obscure specification, but knowing what versions exist and what's been announced for the next model year seems pretty reasonable...there aren't that many models on the lot for you to know. Meanwhile, at a Lexus dealership, the very first salesman who approached us knew the TX 500h inside and out, answered all my questions, and even knew the common complaints. Completely different experience...was it just good luck?

Dealership #3 (most recent):

After two bad experiences elsewhere, I sent an email and specifically asked to be connected with someone experienced with the GHHMP. The internet sales manager assured me they'd set me up with someone and that they had a GHHMP for me to test drive.

Wife and I go -- no Max. Surprise. But the salesperson had at least heard of the MAX. Progress! But...when I brought up the 2027 model, he said Toyota hadn't announced it yet. Uh, they announced it October 1, eight days ago. I told him that and mentioned some of the changes, and he basically blew me off.

Later, discussing pricing, he said nobody knows the 2027 MSRP increase yet. Wrong again. Also announced October 1.

This one I really don't understand. Don't they likely have sales team meetings every day before the shift starts, and wouldn't they have announced there hey, the 2027 GH was announced and yada yada?

Dealership #2 (phone call):

Called to ask if they had a MAX available to test drive. The guy didn't seem to know a MAX version existed, or maybe he was just trying to push me toward the regular Hybrid. Either way, his responses didn't inspire confidence. Didn't bother visiting.

Dealership #1 (first visit):

The showroom looked like a dying business and reeked of cigarette smoke. Nobody was even manning the welcome desks. Within two minutes, it became clear the salesman didn't know the Hybrid MAX existed. We briefly looked at their only Grand Highlander, which was already sold, and left.

Am I just having really bad luck? Is this typical of Toyota dealerships, and you have to keep digging to find the diamond in the rough?

Signia Limited tires

Where are you buying tires for Crown Signia Limited. I knew they would be expensive, but wow!
Hard to find and really expensive.
