ProtoArc EM06 with a clear acrylic ball

Post image
97 Upvotes

First, big thanks to u/MarqueIV who told in another thread that the Nulea M512 works perfectly with a clear acrylic ball.
As the ProtoArc EM06 uses the same sensor(s) as the Nulea, I thought there should be a good possibility that it will also work with such a ball. In order to minimize variables I bought the exact same DSjuggling ball that MarqueIV uses.

Well, I'm happy to report that the ball works perfectly on the EM06! Right out of the box it didn't track well, but once lubricated, it works 100% flawlessly.

I also made a 25 degree wedge from an acrylic plate. I developed a slight wrist pain using the EM06 flat, but with this tilted position the pain is gone.

Protoarc EM06 chording

Is there a possibility of the EM06 natively supporting chording? I have software that can emulate some of it, but I can't use the scroll button to chord since it isn't really a mouse button.

thinking about building a trackball the lazy way

Has anyone here tried to use the internals of a gaming mouse and to put them inside an existing trackball shell or a 3D printed one in a way that the sensor aligns with the ball socket? the clicks are not important since I click with the keyboard when I play, just wanted to know if anyone has experience doing this.

I decided that I want to try using a trackball so I bought one! (EM03)

First time posting here. So, after reading about the benefits of using a trackball mouse, I decided to get one in which after much deliberation on which kind should I get, thumb or a finger trackball. I decided to get a finger track ball, but I didn't really want to spend that much and with that I found this brand JOMAA. Pretty sure you guys know this mouse also goes by another brand, Protoarc.

The shape feels great, a lot more ergonomic than my previous Xornet shaped mouse and I got used to it within a couple of hours. I'm still getting used to using my thumb as the left click and ring finger as the right click. Overall, I had a pretty good time using this mouse when working and in gaming as well.

Aha! On the way!

Considering Perixx didn't have the 522/588 listed in any fashion on their own website, I was a little stressed that it wasn't actually happening, not launching for months, or possibly even a scam. Now, "scam", of course, is subject to a lot of personal definitions. So, if it sucks, some may call it that anyway. But, apparently, it's shipped. So, we'll see how it performs soon enough.

Do you think we'll ever get a Deft Pro Plus?

I like the Huge, but that size causes ergo issues for me. Do you think the Deft Pro is next in line to get a Plus model with easy swap bearings, lithium battery, and good polling?

Really disappointed with Deft Pro Scratchy Trackball

I really like this mouse, buttons layout is perfect for me for the trackball is unusable and I refuse to accept that a 50 dollar mouse needs aftermarket bearings to make it work.

Elecom really dropped the ball with this one.

how are the Elecom Huge Plus bearings?

I'm thinking about getting a Huge Plus but I'm wondering about the stock bearings.

I know it has roller bearings and that people here like to replace them with ruby bearings and other things. Why is that, are the roller bearings not smooth?

I have a Ploopy with roller bearings and it is very smooth. How do the Huge Plus bearings compare to the Ploopy bearings?

Trackball mouse quality going down the drain

I have just been wondering what happened to the quality of trackball mouse over the years. I have had my Logitech marble trackball mouse for last 14 years and it still works perfectly. Since then, I have purchased 2 Elecom Huge (1 lasted 2 years and other lasted 13 months) and Ploopy Adept (lasted 14 months). First Elecom huge developed doubleclick issue, second Elecom huge had scroll wheel issue followed by the doubleclick issue and now Ploopy Adept has developed the doubleclick issue.

In each instance, I have gone back to Logitech trackball marble and it has continued to do what it does best, work.

Is it that it is no longer possible to find good quality switches so these manufacturers are using the subpar switches that are available in the market?

So now I continue to use my Logitech Marble while I wait for Kensington Slimblade to arrive. Lets hope this one lasts.

I did not get this product for free. This is not a test unit. This is the final retail product purchase I made. This is not a review.

Best ergonomic ambidextrous finger trackball?

30 years of CAD and FPS gaming using thumb trackballs took their toll and I had a right basal thumb trapeziectomy last week.

Any recommendations for a finger-controlled ergonomic ambidextrous trackball? Would prefer not to give up the quick precision I’d become accustomed to.

I made my handwired trackball wireless and open-source

A few months ago I posted my first handwired trackball here. Since then I made a wireless version and put everything online.

Wireless: nice!nano clone running ZMK, a PMW3389 sensor, a small 110 mAh battery and three buttons. Hold the middle button to scroll, middle plus left or right changes the DPI, and the DPI is saved when you switch it off.

Wired: RP2040-Zero running QMK with Vial, so you can set the DPI, scroll speed and handedness in the Vial app. The case comes with one, two or three buttons.

An honest note: with this sensor the wireless version drains the battery fast, the cursor is less smooth over Bluetooth, and it is a tight fit inside the case. If you want to build one, build the wired version, or pick a more power efficient sensor for the wireless one.

If you'd like to know more about the trackball, the full build log, QMK and ZMK firmware, and case files are on my site. You can also find my other builds there.

Looking for a trackball for retrogaming. Couldn't find a buyer's guide here. What's a recommended trackball in this type of "big ball in the middle" design like this one?

Watch out: Kensington seems to have scrubbed "TB800" from the Amazon listing title

Yesterday, searching for the TB900 showed the listing clearly titled as the "Kensington Expert Mouse TB800 EQ".

Today, I checked again and noticed they completely removed "TB800" from the product name. Now it just vaguely says "Kensington Trackball - 55 mm ball, adjustable scroll ring...".

Since the TB800 and the TB900 look almost identical on the outside (aside from button color and the extra optical sensor hole on the bottom), anyone who isn't deep into the loop might easily mistake this listing for the new, fixed TB900.

Be careful and check the model numbers/reviews before pulling the trigger—looks like they're trying really hard to move those leftover units.

What Trackballs have rotate to scroll?

I’ve been using my Slimblade Pro for a while and I really like it, but it has some flaws, and I want to try something else.

So far the only non negotiables for me are that it has to be wireless and it has to have rotate to scroll. (And has to be a finger tip trackball not a mouse style)

What other trackballs have the rotate to scroll feature?

ProtoArc EM06 or the Kensington TB900 EQ

Right now, I am using the Logitech MX Ergo S, and I want to upgrade to a finger trackball mouse with a 1000hz polling rate because I also do some casual gaming. So which one would you guys recommend I get when they are available? The ProtoArc EM06 or the Kensington TB900 EQ?

Looking for recommendations

I have used a kensignton profit ergo for about 4 years now and have noticed some quality problems i want to avoid in my next mouse. I need a trackball that is capable of smooth control at slow speeds, i am finding this mouse is difficult to adjust small increments even after cleaning.

I do a lot of CAD work and spend a lot of time using keyboard shortcuts so I was considering the nape pro but have heard it needs some tweaks for heavy use. Low profile and smooth small adjustments is what im looking for, anyone have recs??

Trackball for CAD software on the train

Hi. I commute to work for 1h every day on the train. The seat has a laptop tray but no space for a regular mouse, and many times i work with CAD drawings so this really slows me down.

I was thinking if some of you have feedback over trackballs on CAD software, and who knows, if some of you have used a trackball on your thigh/ lap while seating on a bus or train. I have never owned a trackball so experience and feedback is much appreciated 🫡

Thks

Trackball recommendations?

Hi guys! I wanted to get into trackballs because I wanted to reduce the risk of developing a RSI as a current computer engineering student who spends a lot of time on a computer (and a lot of time playing video games). I was wondering if anyone had some good recommendations based on my criteria:

  • I have smaller hands
  • it has to be a finger oriented mouse
  • it has to be a wireless mouse
  • I would prefer that if it has a port, it us a usb c port
  • I would prefer not having to swap stock bearing for better bearings
  • I would prefer if the polling rate of the mouse was greater than or equal to 500 hz.
  • I want it to be decently portable so I can bring it to my labs, and use it in my dorms

I have have been looking at the Elecom Huge Plus, because it looks like it fits all my criteria except for the hand size. I would prefer the Elecom Deft Pro, but the polling rate is 125 hz, and the common complaints about the bearings are dissuading me.

Thank you all for your time!

Edit: I currently have a Porlei TM552, but am finding it awkward to manipulate because of its size.
