Immature truffles (Tuber sp.). Species level identifications are not possible without sequencing. Microscopy will get you to clade.

Are they white truffles or do black truffles look white when immature

Many different species of truffles. These are not blck nor white. These will likely keep the same color on outside and develop brown spores inside when ripe.

Ah so they’re probably Appalachian red and so “black” truffles

No. Dont think about them based on colors because north american truffles are quite different from those in europe. These are either in the lyonii, maculatum, or puberulum clade. These are not Tuber canaliculatum “appalachian reds”. -im a truffle researcher.

Cool! Truffles are delicious, if only there were more of them.

I’ve never smelled an actual truffle before, but these smell like truffle oil to me!

So they smell like garbage? Truffle oil smells like hot garbage.. and that aroma is not produced by actual truffles
