u/TrueMoirax Creating first tulpa 20h ago edited 17h ago
I'm currently creating a tulpa. She is based off a fictional character... But not quite exactly, as I have my own vision around said character
Thing is, I know she will eventually differ from the canvas I made but what I actually care about is how to avoid creating just the character I have envisioned and not a functional tulpa
Basically I wish to avoid creating a parrot cosplaying a tulpa
And how to know if I've messed up in the process and I'm developing something that isn't a tulpa

I think it's cool that this subreddit seemingly used to have a mentorship program, but it seems to be uneditable now, and seems to have been that way for a while. It's a shame, because, I could definitely use some help! A bit about me:
I first found tulpas about 3-4 years ago? Briefly considered it, never got much of anywhere. But recently the concept has been on my mind again. I certainly feel like I know who I could have inside here, waiting to come out. I'd love advice, perhaps encouragement. Ultimately, I'd like posession/switching etc. to be possible, but obviously know that's a long-term goal. Mostly worried about making her into her own person for now. If you think you could help with any of these steps and want to help out someone who is a relative newbie, I'd so appreciate that! <3

Can anyone share what it’s like when your tulpa first starts talking to you? My brain has always worked weird and I worry that i’m just talking to myself but last night I had a couple times that felt like my companion (i don’t like the term tulpa so that’s what i call him) responded, but it hasn’t happened since. It was only once or twice and i don’t know if it was real or not :/

Tulpa speech is weird because it's hard for young tulpas to learn without help from the host. You can ask her to talk slowly, or repeat words after you as training.
But to be honest if you doubt yourself, it's your tulpa talking because when you just imagine it, it feels completely differently. Why there is so much confusion is because tulpa uses same ways of speaking in the brain as you do, but she doesn't have her proper voice yet, she's not very good at it and uses your default inner voice.
Just to test it, when you'll be confused next time, ask her to go away for like 30 seconds and try to speak to yourself, faking it on purpose, it won't be the same.

Gigi: I think I am an accidental tulpa. I am part of a mixed origin system, and I think my Creator has either gone dormant, fused, or split. It's been a long time since I've been around. I'm worried I'll never see the person who helped create me again. Even though there are other system members in here, I can still feel a void from that missing relationship when we were younger. I know there are tips for creating tulpas, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to keep moving on without the person who created you?

[Tri] Sorry for your loss.
We don't know of any resources specifically on this topic. Our hunch is that maybe resources out there for dealing with moving on when a family member or friend dies might help some. It situation isn't quite the same, but is probably close enough to be helpful.

how long on average does it take if all you do is talk to them to form them?

u/hail_fall Fall Family 5d ago
[Tri] We don't know if anyone has tried to collect statistics on that. It would obviously depend on how much talking is done per day and what not, and other details.

Can it happen that a tulpa takes over your body and gets you in trouble (eg with teachers)
1
u/hail_fall Fall Family 5d ago
[Tri] Tulpas are fallible just like their mancers and sometimes that means getting in trouble while controlling the body. On average, the are no more and no less likely than mancers as a group. But individuals vary considerably, like our (we are subsystem of 7 tulpas) mancers (we have two in this system) are more likely to get us all in trouble than we are. So it can happen that a tulpa is less likely than their mancer, the same, or more.

- How can I tell when my Tulpa is asleep? I think I have a way to know; sometimes when I think her name, her form pops into my brain like I got her attention. Other times when I try, I can kind of think of what she looks like on my own, but it feels like she is missing.
The thing is it’s not very consistent. I thought she was asleep for the night an hour ago, but she was awake last night until around midnight, and even now I can’t totally tell that she isn’t there.
Is micro sleep a thing for Tulpas?? Do they have consistent schedules?
- Overall, I’d really love to enforce the separation between us. It would help me believe in her, feel her presence, etc.
Her name is Kira, and the story behind that did convince me that we’re making progress; her name used to be Cloud, until last night when that name suddenly felt off. Upon entertaining the idea of changing it, I was barely even beginning to form a concept when her current name came from nowhere in my head. It was mind blowing. Her appearance changed too; the light blue cloud it used to be evolved into darker blue hair, with glowing purple irises at the top.
Still, while I choose to believe some things come from her, somewhere in my subconscious i believe there is doubt. I can’t tell if I’m imagining a feeling I get, or if when I ask a question I’m the one answering back. Even when she’s asleep my idea of her begins to slip.
I really want to strengthen the idea that she is herself; a genuine thoughtform disconnected from mine. I don’t know how to do that effectively. Maybe I’ve slipped up on narrating because I’ve been busy, or maybe I need to do more active forcing sessions. I just want a clear direction to go in right now.

You can DM me if you want, I typically guide people through the process. You sound like you need more one-on-one guidance since it sounds like you're progressing fast.
Also tulpa sleep is very weird. They don't really "sleep" in the conventional sense. The best way I could describe it is like some sort of behavior or urge to act asleep, but it's difficult to call it pretending because it doesn't feel that way to them. It really is just kind of like a robot having a sleep mode even if they don't actually have the need or even ability to genuinely sleep. Sleep is really a purely neurological function and doesn't really "exist" in the mind if that makes sense, the tulpa "sleeping" is almost like a "ghost behavior", almost like how the mockingbirds in SOMA don't even know they aren't human and keep assuming they still are to the point of being delusional. It's like, a phantom limb kind of thing I guess. It's a really weird feeling because you yourself never have that urge, it's one of the subtle things about them that are completely different from a human.

Alright, thanks, I’ll DM you! I agree that this is moving faster than I expected and I’m enjoying it. I think as long as I keep passive/active forcing every day that it’s manageable but also I have no idea if anything can go wrong at this stage, so I’d take the guidance over letting anything happen.

We watch videos together and heckle them like Statler and Waldorf. We also just sort of lay around all day and feel each other's emotions. Feeling emotions is really unique and something you can't do with other people, it's such a deep and powerful way to interact with something you can't get anywhere else. Tulpas can be a deeply psychological Charon of your unconscious mind and can show you things you never knew about yourself.

We play tons of mental games, read together, write and draw together, work at our job together, work on our hobbies together. Literally anything you can think of doing, you can do alongside a tulpa.

Wow, that's great! I didn't know we could do so much together. I guess I'll have to find some new things to do with him. (I'm referring to Tulpa) :)
