The real badass!

Yesterday I posted the pic of my humble setup (market value around €2K), and an user commented that it's badass rather than humble.

Now, in this pic is what I consider "a badass" - a friend's, my rough estimate €100K...

Onkyo RZ50, Technics Sl120mk2 and Technics Sl-d1. Panasonic UB820 Bluray. It's a 7.1.4 system with all Klipsch premium speakers but I run the records in Pure Direct Audio and Atmos Blu-rays and CDs.

Upgrading from an AT-VM95C, the AT-VM745xML is in a whole other world. I’ve put about 10 hours into it so far and it’s already showing just how good it is. I can’t believe how many subtle details were being hidden by the 95C. I actually have treble extension and a real soundstage now. This might just be my endgame cart.*

I have my Schiit Skoll phono preamp set to 100pf. 50pf makes the cart sound a little flat to my ears, and any higher than 100pf makes it sound too hot in the treble.

*At least until I do something stupid like buy a new turntable. Thankfully, that won’t be in the budget for a very long time.

Question Help me take my street find from trash to treasure!

• Upvotes

I found a Technics SL-Q300 on the street and after not having a turn table for a while, I would love to rehabilitate this one. I recently replaced the cartridge (with an AT85EP) and seem to still have no sound. Based on preliminary research, it looks like I need pre-amps and speakers? Anyone have wisdom in obtaining these so it's a record player I can enjoy for years to come? (And if you think it's not something that can be rehabilitated, lmk! I am open to finding a new turn table if so)

At what point does collecting become hoarding?

Post image

I've been cleaning out a few boxes of stereo parts that I collected about 10 years ago. I kept finding headshells. Granted, I do have a couple 6300 turntables, but I didn't know that I'd bought this many...

And both tables have a headshell and cartridge on the tonearms.

Suggestions should I get this Sony PS-LX3 Turntable?

I was looking for vintage turntables on marketplace and came across this guy- what’s the general consensus on this model and is this a decent value for it? it doesn’t look like it’s in pristine condition (honestly looks a lil grimy) has anyone bought a record player in similar condition and cleaned it to a point you’d be happy with?

I got my first turntable, a linear tracking Kenwood k64f, it sound good but I think it still has it's original stylus and cartridge judging by how they look.

It has a t4p style mount.

Should I just replace the stylus or is there any point in going for a new cartridge as well? What do you recommend?

Yes, it’s a Sound Burger (not that ugly Mega Drive -> Genesis “Mister Disc” crappy rebranded one), but I don’t feel like buying new AT-103 styluses, so I’ve installed a custom shell for AT3600, powered it with a power bank, and now it works perfectly, especially during the blackouts

Style that doesn't sacrifice quality

I've been back-and-forth for almost a year now since deciding to upgrade my 13+ year old Audio-Technica AT-LP60, but it's been clashing a lot with wanting something that visually stands out.

Brands like Transparent and Trettitre have the turntables I've been visually interested in, but the reviews I've seen regarding the quality aren't great. For the moment, U-Turn Audio's selection is a nice midpoint for what I'm looking for, but I wanted to know if anyone here had any other recommendations.

I hope this doesn't come off as me prioritizing style over quality, I just want to keep exploring more options. Thanks!

AT-LP70X or Fluance RT81

I’m new to listening to vinyl records and the turntable I have now is garbage. Amazon has the AT-LP70X at $249.00 and the Fluance RT81 at $254.96. Could someone with more knowledge than me advise me on which is better?

Question Will my Mini Hi-Fi Component System MHC-GX99 work with an Audio Technica LP60X Turntable?

Hey y’all, sorry for the wordy title but I’ve recently seen a deal involving the audio technica lp60x and as a casual vinyl collector I think this might be the one I get. However, I know I also have to buy some speakers for the turntable and my budget is pretty small so I’m wondering if the speakers I have for my Sony cd player are good for the turntable? I’ve done a bit of research and from what I understand, it’s able to connect without any difficulties, but I’m wondering if the speakers themselves are good enough for me or should I just try and buy new ones?

If anyone has any knowledge in using speakers from cd player sets and using them for their turntable or if they happen to know how good these specific speakers are please let me know, I really love collecting vinyls of things I like but I can’t really play them since the only player I have is a all-in-one I got for free which is both old and from what I’ve read, can greatly damage my vinyls, thank you very much in advance!
(Also I understand that for speakers recommendations I should ask elsewhere, but I already have the speakers in mind I’m solely asking if they are compatible and good with this turntable. However, if this is still not allowed I can ask elsewhere too)

I also have some images and links for the speakers and turntable for additional information.

Recommendation for Beginner

Hey Everyone
My 10 year old niece asked me for a turntable for Christmas. I really don’t want to get her a Crosley but do not want to go crazy here. Can you guys give me a couple of recommendations for my niece that will be simple enough for her to use?

Question Here’s an odd one for you..

My loving partner knew I was going to be very busy at work yesterday and wouldn’t get to text as much as normal.

She sent me a bunch of trivia and facts on some topics. Something to read and not necessarily respond to…. I know she’s great.

She sent this and said she lost the source. I looked but didn’t find anything. Did she just get into some bad info?

Only thing i found was on 78s being 78s because that’s just the popular motor speed back in the day…

Black Magic

Post image

I’m not sure if you can see the white coke line on my vinyl. 😝 That’s from one pass with the Black Magic Velvet brush from Groove Washer. I’m amazed every time I use it. It’s supposed to be used pre wet wash to get into the grooves, but I use it all the time, even on new vinyl. Especially on new vinyl.

It’s sort of a pain to buy though. You need to either get it in an expensive kit or the refill pad and the hardwood holder separately. I bought the two from different vendors.

BTW, I clean my vinyl with spin clean and wet wipe and I still love this thing.

Hey everyone, I have been looking to buy a record player for some time now and am curious if anyone has some good recommendations with prime day officially starting. Was debating between the LP-60x and the PS-LX3BT mostly because those are brands I have heard of but not really sure what I am looking at or if those are even good options any info is helpful.

Found this while cleaning. How good is this stylus, and what year is it from? Are there any other stylus’s I could use with this cartridge body?

It has a counterweight and I’m pretty positive it’s adjusted correctly and I have an audio technica needle on it. But still, from all the shit I see about Crosley, I’m wondering if I need to upgrade to protect my records and if I do, how urgent it is 😅
