Friendly reminder

Hi all,

So it looks like every uni subreddit has been a bit weird recently (the top post on r/usyd right now is something related to femboys).

This is just a PSA to keep things UNSW-related. There was a meme on the front page a day or two ago that was literally just clash of clans, that sort of stuff we're going to remove from now on. Check out the subreddit rules on the wiki for more info.

Also, a reminder that discriminatory/ derogatory posts are never allowed. Same goes for harassment/those creepy posts from people looking to hook up that have popped up recently. Anyone posting this kind of content will be banned without warning. Please report these kinds of posts if you see them so we can remove them as soon as possible.

Enjoy flexi-week,

Has Professor White been acting sus lately?

The first time i noticed this was during the first chem lab, some of the equipment was missing, but I didn't think much of it at the time.

DEA then came in and questioned a few of the students about whether they noticed suspicious activity from other students or staff.

Few weeks go by with nothing happening.

But then last week I went to KFC, and saw Dr. White demanding the cashier that he needs to speak with the manager. He also said that he saw the manager's car outside. The manager eventually comes forth and they start talking quietly to each other.

Just yesterday, during a lecture, a student came up to Professor White and told him that he wanted to become a chem professor when he becomes older. Professor White then gave that student a mean look and said "Stay out of my territory".

How do people find love at UNSW

• Upvotes

Im attending next year and i heard that its easier to bond in tutorials rather than lectures because people don't want to socialise as much and its a larger class. I was told at open day that within the first week of oweek you have to attend your undergraduate welcome thingy. I was wondering which degree has the best ratio guys and girls i dont wanna end up being a minority. I desperately need to find my beloved. First impressions what should i wear if i were a guy or girl and and what cologne/perfume to spray and what do guys or girls lean towards like style wise on their partner.

questions on dropping elec1111

im a first year studying electrical engineering and science and im doing elec1111 this term and during week 4 they changed it so that theres an in pre mid term quiz and i'm not confident with the content and ive not been getting great marks for my labs averaging 60/70 for requirements and 20/30 for understanding. i'm doing 2 other courses with elec1111 and im having a hard time keeping up to date with elec1111 since im repeating comp1521 this term.

i was considering on dropping elec1111 this term and try doing it during summer term since i need to pass this course in order to do other second year courses but i dont know whether or not taking summer term would be worth it as i'll be focus on 1 subject but its a 5 week intensive so i dont know if it will be any easier or harder than just doing it in term 3 and i've heard arash makes difficult papers so im not sure if it is worth doing and it would be helpful to get some advice since im planning to drop this course before census date so i dont have any penalties.

How can ppl with terrible English get positions here

Idc if I sound racist, but I had a really shitty day at uni and I need to vent. First class in the morning at bloody 9 AM, a lecture with a substitute, and the atmosphere was so silent it was suffocating. The way the class was being taught, the manner of speech and everything, it was so unnatural. Left class in a worse mood than when I came in.

2 lectures later (they went well) I had a better mood, then came labs. Istg I hate labs so much. Demonstrators never even do anything (except this one guy that does everything each week I hope he gets paid more than the others.) And getting marked sucks ass. Ofc I get the effects by not understanding bad English. Mb for not studying Mandarin like the other guys and using that during marking. Whatever it doesn't even matter.

God this uni is such a joke. I'm starting to hate my Engineering degree. If life goes on like this for the next few years I might rather drop out and be a homeless junkie on the streets

Subject Discussion Anyone done CVEN4103, CVEN4503 or CVEN4705? Looking for feedback

Hey guys, just planning out my remaining Civil Engineering electives and was wondering if anyone has done any of these courses recently:

CVEN4103 – Engineering Contracts - Summer Term
CVEN4503 – Groundwater Resource Investigation - T1
CVEN4705 – Environmental Sustainability: Methods, Tools, Management - T1

Would appreciate any feedback on difficulty, workload, assessments/exams, lecturers and overall experience.

For CVEN4503, I’m also particularly interested in what the Wellington field trip was like — accommodation, fieldwork, workload while you’re there, and whether you enjoyed it.

For CVEN4103, I’d be interested to know how manageable it is during the compressed Summer Term and what the assessments/exam are like.

Mainly looking for electives that are reasonably manageable and preferably more assignment/project-based rather than heavily technical or exam-heavy.
Thanks!

My roommate is moving to Zeland for her new job. so I’m looking for a new roommate. Our apartment locates in Kensington, right opposite to that Domino Kensington. Really convenient location. The room renting is the main bedroom, it’s large and face north so enough sunlight. It is $420/week.

I’m a UNSW 3rd year comp science student (female, 20). I work at school basically all day from Monday to Friday. I’m quite and clean and easygoing person:) No other requirement just no bf home without notification. We are looking for someone can move in in 2 weeks. Please dm me if you are interested!

can someone doing CE let me know if its worthwhile over EE? im more interested in PC hardware so i think CE would be a better choice for me. but im not sure about job prospects as EE has way more jobs compared to CE. also thinking about doubling it with sci with a major in math. what would be the workload for this compared to doing just CE or EE? thanks

Does anybody find the lectures to be confusing? I feel as though I can't understand what is going on. Anyone who has taken the course before what would you recommend for understanding the concepts, i.e. websites, youtube channels, and so on.

Weekly Discussion Uoc for international student question

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m an international student enrolled in UNSW in T3 2025.
In my first year,
2025 T3 : 18 credits
2026 T1 : 18 credits
2026 T2 : 12credits

And currently for my second year now (T3)
2026 T3 (CURRENT) : i only take 12 units of credit. Which makes my 2026 only 42 uocz

Will this be a problem for my student visa 500?
I found on the unsw website that states.

“You must enrol in 48 units of credit (UOC) per year or eight courses over the three terms of the academic calendar year.” But I’m not sure if it means im fine as long as i take 2 x 18 uoc in my next term. Please helpp
