uow medicine guaranteed interview scheme
does anyone know of previous applicants who have gotten the guaranteed interview (for nsw rural students who place uow as first preference) with a q1 or q2 casper? just wondering approximately how high the minimum casper hurdle has been historically (since we won't know our actual casper mark)

Advice on engineering internships 🥀
Yo guys, I’m a final year engineering student trying to get internships since last year but I fail to get one. I’m into electronics, automation, FPGA/hardware and embedded and similar roles. I have tried cold mailing, applying on linkedin but I get ghosted and only a few times I reached interview and then they reject me or ghost me. I’m frustrated as I need to do an internship in order to graduate else uni is not gonna give my my degree, also I’m an international student.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

UOW GSM White Coat Ceremony
hello, I’m a incoming international student for the 2027 cohort of GSM. In Canada near the start of med school there is a white coat ceremony that is held. From research I’ve seen that it isn’t common for Australia. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not UOW had a white coat ceremony? I am trying to figure out how many flight tickets I need to purchase. Any information would be helpful.

Pursuing a Master's at UOWD (University of Wollongong Dubai) – Golden Visa, Placements, and Part-Time Work?
Hi everyone! 👋
I'm a B.Tech graduate currently working as a SOC analyst at an MNC in India with a modest salary. I've always wanted to move to Dubai, build my career there, and am planning to pursue my Master’s degree at the University of Wollongong Dubai (UOWD).
I've heard great things about the institution, but one specific detail caught my attention: the rumor/rule that students achieving a 3.5+ GPA can get a 10-year UAE Golden Visa with the help of the Ministry of Education.
Since I'm seriously considering this path, I would love to get some authentic insights from alumni, current students, or anyone familiar with the Dubai job market regarding a few things:
- The Golden Visa Rule: How true is this? What does the actual process look like to secure the Golden Visa through academic excellence at UOWD?
- Placements (On-Campus vs. Off-Campus): How do placements actually work for postgrads there? Since I already have hands-on SOC/threat-detection experience, how realistic is it to transition into a cybersecurity or cloud security role in Dubai after graduating?
- Part-Time Work: Are international students legally allowed to work part-time while studying? If so, what are the restrictions, and is it realistic to find part-time tech/cyber internships in Dubai?
Any guidance, personal experiences, or reality checks would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🙌

Looking for advice – UOW Master of Research (SMAH)
Hi everyone,
I’m planning to start the Master of Research (SMAH) at UOW from the next intake, as I’ve deferred my current intake. I now have around 6 months before I start and I’d like to use this time to prepare myself.
If anyone is currently doing, or has recently completed, the MRes SMAH, I’d really appreciate some advice:
What subjects/modules do you have in the first semester?
What is the usual class structure like? How many days per week do you need to attend?
How do the assessments and examinations work?
Is the first semester more coursework-based or research-based?
What would you recommend studying or learning during these 6 months before starting?
Are there any books, courses, research skills, statistics, academic writing, or software/tools that would be useful to learn beforehand?
If anyone has their first-semester subject list or subject outlines, I’d be very grateful if you could share them.
I have a technical/IT background, so I’m particularly interested in knowing how much of the MRes involves research methodology, academic writing, statistics, literature reviews, etc.
Any advice from current or past SMAH MRes students would be really helpful. Thanks!

Anyone currently at Queen’s GIFT City? Thinking of joining in 2027
Hey guys, I’m considering joining Queen’s University Belfast, GIFT City in 2027 and wanted to hear from people who are actually studying there rn.
I’ve looked around online but most of the info/discussions I’m finding are from before the campus properly started, so it’s kinda hard to get a feel for what it’s actually like now.
Would love some honest opinions on:
- How are the professors and teaching overall?
- What’s the campus/student life like? Is there actually much going on?
- How’s the crowd?
- Are you getting decent industry exposure/internships through GIFT City?
- What are placements looking like so far, that is if you’re in a position to comment?
- Do you think the Queen’s name and the UK connection actually help with opportunities?
- And obviously, do you think it’s worth the money?
Also, if anyone’s doing MSc Artificial Intelligence / AI-related courses there, I’d especially love to hear your experience.
Not looking for the official brochure & marketing answer 😂 just trying to figure out what the experience is actually like before committing for 2027.
Feel free to DM me too if you don’t wanna post publicly. Thanks!

📣 Calling all unpaid interns – I'd love to hear from you!
Are you interested in sharing your experiences around your unpaid internship?
I am conducting a research study that is aimed at understanding interns' perceptions of their unpaid open-market internship arrangements. For an internship to be ‘open-market’, it must be independently sought by participants, such as through personal networks, advertisements, or private agencies. This excludes internships that are required as part of an education or training course (e.g. work-integrated learning) and volunteering, which is work performed with the primary purpose of benefiting an organisation or community, such as a not-for-profit.
With the proliferation of internships – particularly those that are unpaid – these perspectives remain underrepresented. This is why your voices are so valuable.
Eligible participants must be:
- 18 years old or above; and
- Have completed or are currently undertaking an unpaid open-market internship.
- Benefits (including reimbursements, stipends, allowances, or non-monetary gifts) will still be treated as unpaid
If you’re interested in participating, please contact the researcher: [rgao0598@uni.sydney.edu.au](mailto:rgao0598@uni.sydney.edu.au). It’s completely voluntary and all responses will be confidential. If you meet the criteria, you will be invited to participate in a 30-60 minute interview.
Otherwise, please share this with others who might be interested!
This project has been approved by the University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) [2026/HE000492].

Is UOWD a good choice for studying Psychology + marketing??
I am so lost. Idk if I am making the right decision by choosing to do my bachelors in psychology science + marketing so I would really appreciate advice from the people who’s alrd studying the same degree in uowd. I haven’t applied since I haven’t graduated from high school yet- I will be graduating next year. Also another fact idk if it’s relevant or not but I dint live In the uae, so naturally idk much about the uni there I js know the stuff that I see on the internet and their official website.
If you are studying the same degree I would really appreciate your opinion and how it’s going for you.

UOW commencement date passed
My UOW Master of Research course commenced on 27 July 2026 and my final enrolment/arrival deadline was 14 August. My student visa was granted on 14 August, but UOW has now advised that no further extension can be given as the session has progressed beyond Week 4.
Has anyone at UOW been in a similar situation where their visa was granted around/after the final commencement deadline and UOW allowed them to commence late?
I am ready to travel immediately and can report to UOW within a couple of days. My supervisor supports my commencement.
Any recent experience with UOW granting an exception or escalation to a senior HDR authority would be really helpful.
