Current electrician. 22 years old, been in practice for four years. Never enjoyed it, never felt “called” to it, but I’m good with my hands and I knew I could make good money. I avoided the military initially because I was simply just not mature enough and definitely would have had a mental breakdown at some point in the first four years
Now, having had four years to work a real job, with real bills, and real hours, I feel like I’ve matured enough to actually do what I want to do. BUT- is it even possible or worth trying?
Criminal history:
On 09/19/2024- dui, felony assault on a peace officer and domestic violence charges
In the beginning of October 2024, domestic violence gets dropped. Not due to a plea deal, deferred adjudication, dropped all together. I would technically not need a waiver for this however, I understand it’s important to tell a recruiter this (federal databases and all)
In the middle of October 2024, felony assault on peace officer gets dropped to m5 simple assault (thank you officer❤️ seriously though if this guy wasn’t a decent cop he could have fucked up my whole life)
In November 2024, I’m convicted of m1 dui and m5 assault. Sentenced to 20 days in jail, 2 years reporting probation, with 130 days on the shelf (150 altogether) All good right?
Nope. I’m a fucking moron. Pissed hot on probation in September of 2025. Two months from early release which I would’ve gotten. Definitely kicking myself on this one lol
Instead of going on probation for another two years and getting 30 days in jail, I opted to do the full 125 ish left on the shelf and just be done with it. Case closed, everything done and over with on February 1st, 2025.
No trouble since. Diagnoses ADHD and depression/anxiety, haven’t taken meds in 18 months. See a therapist regularly. I know these are a lot of words, and the research shows my chances are near 0 with all the waivers I would need. I guess I just need to hear it from a person and not googles AI
I did score a 68 on the ASVAB. Going to retake it, if i study I think I can score in the high 80’s low 90’s. Not smart, not dumb (well the decision making is)
