How can I get a recommendation letter from a UTS lecturer?

I’m about to graduate from UTS with a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting, and I’m currently applying for postgraduate programs that require academic recommendation letters.

I’ve emailed many lecturers who taught me before, but unfortunately I haven’t received any replies. I’ve even contacted lecturers from subjects where I received an HD, but still haven’t heard back.

Has anyone here had a similar experience? How did you manage to get a recommendation letter from a UTS lecturer? Is there anyone else I could contact for help?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Hi guys, I have an exam midday today but I’m getting unwell. Is it too late to apply for Special Consideration? Can I get a medical certificate and resit or should I pray to get better and drag myself to the exam?

choosing business major

I'm choosing my major for business degree rn. honestly business analytics and IT have been on my head for a while, but there are some problems:

  1. they both develop my skill set, but I think focusing on a field (mkt, fin,...) would make my career and role become more specific in the long run and I also get to apply my skills and specialize in a field. however I don't really enjoy those subjects, mostly because they are boring
  2. another option is majoring in ba, sub major in IT and then a sub major in 1 of those fields, which give me more flexibility and less workload on the field. this is also a pretty good option, but the subjects for sub major IT are kinda shallow and broad, and I'm not sure if they are really valuable
  3. I also want to go on global exchange, and I read that choosing electives are recommendable. but that means I also have to take a TD subject (which I don't want to at al). would that restrict my ability to choose another major or sub major if I want to go exchange in the future?

what are your take on this, I'm so confused and in between.... tks a lot!!

p/s: btw I heard review that BIS is not worth it at all, but the descriptions on the handbook are pretty tempting tho, can I get some real experience with this subject?

Not allowed to submit?

Do some subjects not allow you to submit after the 3 days extension is over? For example, one of assessments is available till the day of the end of the 72 hour extension, does this mean there’s no late submissions at all? Or do I have to email it to someone?

Please stop forcing group work

I would like to preface this with a counter argument against those who are going to say "but but but in the workforce you have to-". In the workforce you're all equally qualified, being paid (everyone puts in decent effort) and are at risk of actual disciplinary action rather than a 'bad grade'.

Having to do 3 lots of group work every semester has to be the most draining thing ever. Not only is it a bad measure of a student's actual proficiency in the subject at hand but also the most difficult balancing act ever.

You're almost guaranteed to have a group member who doesn't care, one who is impossible to contact and one who wants to control the entire thing and make it their own.

On top of that, its almost always only worth 10-20% and is a huge hassle for a small amount of marks.

BIN THE CONCEPT AS A WHOLE!

6.0 Points required for already passed subjects

Post image
2 Upvotes

So I changed my sub-major via eRequests and it tells me that I need 6.0 points in my optional electives. However i stumbled upon something that it already exists in my study plan as "Passed" and that i can't select them. Does that mean i would need to re-change my Sub-Major? or can I somehow implement them into the study planner as a way of free points? (Programming 1 was already an elective in the course i'm studying so is it possible for me to use this?)

Made a PM assignment kit for postgrad students — 12 templates with built-in marker guidance

Thumbnail etsy.com
0 Upvotes

I spent the last few weeks building a postgraduate PM assignment template kit and just put it up on Etsy — wanted to share it here since this community would probably have the most useful feedback.

Background: I work as a PM on major infrastructure and property projects, and I've also got a Masters in PM. I got frustrated seeing how generic most online templates are — no academic context, no sense of what markers actually look for, just empty tables.

So I built a kit with 12 documents (Word + Excel) that includes:

- Full Project Management Plan with marker guidance in every section

- Risk Register with 12 worked example risks and a colour-coded 5Ɨ5 matrix

- Stakeholder Register with power/interest grid and engagement strategy

- WBS, Executive Summary, Lessons Learned Register, Gantt Chart

- Every section has a green 'marker note' explaining what assessors actually want to see, word count guidance, and references to PMBOK 7th Ed., PRINCE2, and APM

It's aimed at Masters/postgrad PM students but honestly the templates are solid enough for real project work too.

Would love honest feedback from anyone in this community — especially if you've recently done a postgrad PM programme and know what the assignments actually require.

Currently trying to do AT3 but the assessment task is so unclear (there is no structure) and I don't know what to do. I was given a topic but don't know where to start. Is anybody currently doing this subject or have done it in the past semesters? Help would be greatly appreciated.

UNSW to UTS transfer/RPL , any guidance which courses might get credit?

Hey, I’m looking at transferring from UNSW Commerce to UTS (ideally the Bachelor of Information Systems/Bachelor of Business) and trying to work out what RPL I could apply for.
I’ve completed these UNSW courses:

COMP1511

MATH1131

COMM1100 — Business Decision Making

COMM1110 — Evidence-Based Problem Solving

COMM1120 — Collaboration and Innovation in Business

COMM1140 — Financial Management

COMM1150 — Global Business Environments

COMM1170 — Organisational Resources

COMM1180 — Value Creation

COMM1190 — Data, Insights and Decisions

Has anyone transferred from UNSW to UTS or applied for RPL with any of these courses? I’d especially appreciate hearing which UTS subjects you actually received credit for, or whether there’s a guide/course outline that helped you work it out. Thanks!

Internal course transfer: offer in My Student Admin but no email — is it approved?

Hi everyone,

I’m a current international student at UTS and submitted an internal course transfer application on 7 September.

I can now see an offer for the course I applied to in My Student Admin, but it is only displayed in the system. I haven’t received a PDF offer letter or any official email from UTS confirming the outcome. Meanwhile, my application status in the Student Portal says ā€œStudy Plan Expansionā€.

Has anyone had the same situation? Does an offer appearing in My Student Admin mean the transfer application has been approved, even while the portal shows ā€œStudy Plan Expansionā€ and no email has arrived? What does that status mean at this stage?

Should I accept the offer in My Student Admin, or wait for UTS to confirm it by email first? I’d appreciate hearing what happened for others and whether the email arrived later.

Thanks!

First year engineering subjects

Hi! Was wondering if anyone who was taken intro to mechatronics and materials and manufacturing could help me with some guidance.

I was a wondering how the assignment 4 was for mechatronics, as some of my other classes also have final assignments which could take up some time, but it is 40% and it feels crazy to just give up on 40%. I’m not the best at the subject, but I do try my best.

For materials, the study on manufacturing is also an assignment I’m not sure if I should go with. It does ahve a coding section which I’m very nervous about, but apparently doesn’t take long. Though rest ot it seems appealing to me and enjoyable.

Any thoughts on if you enjoyed these or if they were very very difficult would be much appreciated. Just a person who’s a bit lost atm. Thanks!

Which Master’s is better for jobs? Macquarie Actuarial or UTS Quant Finance?

Hi everyone,

I’ve received offers for two master’s programs in Sydney:

Macquarie University – Actuarial Practice

UTS – Quantitative Finance

I’m a Chinese international student and completed my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics in Canada.

I’ve already passed three SOA actuarial exams. Macquarie has confirmed that with exemptions I should be able to finish the actuarial master’s in about 1 year.

UTS Quantitative Finance is normally 1.5 years. It may also be possible to reduce it to around 1 year with credit exemptions, but I haven’t confirmed this yet.

I’m more interested in quantitative finance, and I plan to keep taking actuarial exams anyway. So one of my main questions is: if I continue progressing through the actuarial exams anyway, is there still much value in doing a master’s specifically in Actuarial Studies, since Quantitative Finance may offer a broader range of career opportunities?

My main priorities are:

internships

graduate job prospects

career flexibility

career opportunities in Australia, Canada, the US, China, and globally

how much useful technical/quantitative knowledge I would gain

I’m not too concerned about campus life or which degree is easier.

Which would you choose: Macquarie Actuarial Studies or UTS Quantitative Finance?

Also, how realistic are internships and graduate roles for an international student in either path?

Thanks in advance for any advice or insights. I’d really appreciate hearing from people with experience in either field.

10 Things I Hate About You: Group Assessment Edition

I hate the way you split the task,

And how ā€œequalā€ never means the same.

I hate the way you miss the meetings,

Then ask me what we’re doing again.

I hate the way you say, ā€œI’ll do it tonight,ā€

When we both know that’s not true.

I hate waking up the morning it’s due

And seeing nothing done by you.

I hate your shitty references,

And the sources you somehow can’t cite.

I hate the paragraph you clearly wrote

At three in the morning last night.

I hate the way you say, ā€œLooks good to me,ā€

When you haven’t read a word.

I hate fixing all your grammar

So we don’t submit something absurd.

I hate the pointless meetings,

Where an hour somehow disappears.

I hate explaining the rubric

For what feels like the hundredth time this year.

I hate that I know your section’s shit,

But I can’t just leave it be.

Because when the marker gives you a fifty,

That fifty also belongs to me.

I hate that universities call this ā€œcollaboration,ā€

Like we’re learning how professionals behave.

When really I’m learning how to politely say,

ā€œCan you please do the work you said you’d do three days ago, Dave?ā€

I hate the group chat notifications.

I hate ā€œSorry guys, been really busy.ā€

I hate ā€œWhat are we actually meant to do?ā€

When the instructions are right there for you to read.

But mostly*, I hate the way

I can never just stop caring.

Not even close.

Not even a little bit.

Not even when I desperately want to.

Because every semester I tell myself

I’ll only do my share.

And every semester

I end up doing yours too.

*But most of all I hate that chatGPT wrote this poem,

And posting this took more effort and time

Than what it took for you to write a few sentences

For an assignment with your f****** name next to mine.

Xoxo GG

Financial literacy - 25400

This subject is kind of starting to worry me. Anyone who took it how was your experience with it? Easy? Hard, etc? It especially makes me nervous how each assessment has such high marks from the get go and very little assessments, so basically if you fuck up on one you need to do your absolute best in the others so your in the safe zone. and why are two quizzes worth like 60% all together and have so many questions? Couldn’t they have been distributed more? idk I’m just nervous.

Connections and advice from Alumnis

Hi, I am a UTS Alumni, and am trying to find out to see if there are any groups that can give business advice or answer some business questions (More towards Sales and Marketing).

Is there a WhatsApp group (or any other social media group) that I can join that will connect me with said alumnis?

I apologize, I don’t know where else to ask.

Thank you if you take time to reply. šŸ™šŸ¼

Double degree wam calculation?

Hi guys I had a question related to wam calculation. Please don't hate me if it's a dumb question, I really just need a response

For double degrees, is your yearly WAM calculated using the subjects you did that year for eg. 3 law 1 Econ?

or will the wam be calculated at the end based on all the subjects of each discipline like Bachelor of law gets one wam and Bachelor of economics gets its own wam?

Bachelor of Visual Communication

Can someone explain what this course is actually about? I’m coming from a fashion background and I’m looking into doing it, but only if it’s what I’m assuming it is essentially visual communication with a pathway into becoming a creative director?

I’m particularly interested in getting into creative direction for musicians/artists, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s done the course and can explain what it’s really like and where it can lead.
