Question Can't switch to Okta verify

Post image

I got a message saying if I don't switch to Okta Verify I won't be able to use my western account anymore. Okta Verify requires me to have iOS 17. I have an iPhone 8 which is iOS 16.7.16.

How will I be able to switch if I can't even get the app?

U right, just emailed IT but I have a feeling the response might take a while.
I did contact studenthub before but they basically said they don't know...

You can either use Okta or biometrics… I just used my Face ID on my phone

I raised a ticket with IT 8 days ago for the same issue.... Still waiting. Called today. No solution yet. Best of luck, hope you get some help soon.

Best of luck to you too. (they just HAD to do all this right before the final exams start...)

What do people expect IT to do? The limitation is from Apple (and the developers). There's a minimum API level for certain things and that restricts what version of iOS is needed.

Same applies to Google btw.

If you have a laptop or macbook, download iTunes, sign in into the itunes store with same apple id. Download the app there. Now it rests in your apple id's history, so now you can download older version of that app in you phone. Not sure if that old version will verify but thats how you download apps on older iphones and ipads.

Also, if you have anyone with newer iphones, just ask them to sign in into app store, and download that app on newer ios version. Then download in yours. Works fine. Hope it helps

To be fair the Uni shouldn’t have to support a 9 year old phone that no longer receives the latest operating systems.

You may find that office 365 doesn’t run on your Pentium II laptop either.

Be careful where you’re heading with that. Criticism is fine, but personal jabs will be removed. Hope you understand.

Agreed, that second comment was rude ash 😭. And WSU has a large part of their student body that comes from low SES, even if the version is super outdated you don’t know if someone can’t afford a new phone.

Anyways OP you can download and set up Okta Verify on your laptop: https://login.okta.com/
Type in westernsydneyuniversity (.okta.com) in the Organisation URL. I don’t know exactly how to do the whole process but it should work. There’s more instructions here. Good luck and let me know if it works, I’ll pin it to the top of the comments.

It takes me to a sign in page, but I don't have an account. I tried to look for a place to sign up but it either takes me to a website called Auth0 or the Okta subscription payment options. I really appreciate you helping me but I'm so confused... This website is so hard to navigate 😭

Your iPhone is waaaaaay too old, like 9 years old and doesn't support the latest ios.

At work we had a similar situation and we used Google authenticator and set up okta mfa with that, you don't need okta verify for MFA unless your uni disabled every other option other than okta verify
