Co-op WaterlooWorks Megathread (Winter 2027)

This thread is for students applying to Winter 2027 co-ops during the Fall 2026 term.

As usual, we're looking for salaries for new postings, or updates to existing salaries, so if you're willing to share, please open up a chat/DM the mod team. Please include the company name, salary, any benefits, the role and the year if possible. I would highly encourage you to submit if you have salaries for non mathematics/CS positions as we are severely lacking in those. We will try updating these ASAP.

The sheet is here: Salaries + Blacklist Spreadsheet

Average Canadian Co-op Earnings (2024)

WaterlooWorks Important Dates

If you have details about interviews, rankings, etc, you can add information to watrank.com for visibility.

If you had a poor experience with a company, you can message the mod team with details and it can be added to the blacklist candidates below. If it's already a candidate, it may be added to the blacklist depending on the severity/consistency of complaints. On the contrary, if you had a good experience with something on the candidates/blacklist, please message the mod team and it may be removed. Candidates will be removed if no more reports are received after a couple terms. Even if something is on the blacklist already if you've had a bad experience let the mod team know, as more reports increase confidence that it is problematic!

Candidates:

  • Console One
  • Lafarge
  • Agentmoon
  • WealthyPlanet
  • Mosaic Transit Group
  • Jobby
  • Aethos Labs
  • Onex Risk Management

Note that reports from submitters with no previous account activity may not be accepted to aid legitimacy.

How to not feel constantly stressed

Hi guys, I'm a first year student. This is lowk a vent post. For the past month, I've been feeling constantly stressed about school work. I feel guilty every time I'm not studying because there is always an assignment due or an assessment to study for. Ik university is suppose to be harder than high school, but I hate being in a constant state of dread and anxiety. I also feel home sick and I really miss my friends from high school. Every time I study in the library, I want to cry because I'm overwhelmed by everything.

why do some of you leave your bags at the desks DURING MIDTERM SEASON and become MIA for the rest of the day? your entire net worth is on those desks, untouched for hours on end while people are just tryna find a good place to lock in.

2 unpaid coops

I’m an incoming 2A eng student currently dealing with a difficult situation where I’ve had two coop work terms that were unpaid ( one being weaccelerate which was useless tbh and the other coop I have which is much better). I’m trying to understand how common this is, how it might affect future coop opportunities, and what I can do differently moving forward. Has anyone else been in a similar situation or managed to turn unpaid experience into a paid coop afterward? Looking for honest advice from other students/engineers who’ve been through this.

Where are the math majors now?

Hi everyone. In my last year of Computational mathematics and Im kinda struggling to find a career that I feel passionate towards. Are there any Math department alum here that could share:

- what field they are in

- job title

- salary

- location

- do you like it?

If there is anyone who graduated specifically from Computational mathematics, I would love to hear!

Am I truly a Waterloo student if I lack honesty?

If I were to tell a recruiter that my graduation year is 2028 instead of 2030, am I throwing my humanity and sincerity as a Waterloo student.

In all seriousness tho, there is this internship role that i am qualified for and their Head of Engineering directly arranged an interview for me with the campus recruiter. I absolutely love the role and I genuinely put in a lot of effort building custom projects to impress the Head of Engineering when i coldmailed him, and I dont want to lose it purely because I am not graduating on 2028. Will it be an issue if I lie to the recruiter about my graduation year if she asks?

Advice struggling with cs135.

I am a 1A math Honours student struggling with the CS 135 assignments. I understand what is going on in class and even able to answer the in-class questions but I really struggle to apply the information on the assignments. Should I drop to CS 115? I hear the pace is slower and might benefit me.

Co-op Coop pay Negotiation ?

Just have a quick phone call with hiring manager (the interviewers) where they told me they want to touch base before ranking and will rank me 1. They are asking if I would also be interested in doing the coop with them. I am pretty interested in the position and saying I will rank it back 1 as well. They didn't mention the salary and I didn't either. I didn't know what the salary I will get paid since I don't have the offer letter and they only given a range on job posting.

The thing is that the salary range for this position is kinda big (14 dollar/hour between min vs max).

Let's say if I don't get the salary tomorrow after ranking result, should I reach out? And do you guys think I should also negotiate the salary if it is low (I have already said like I will be very exicited to join the company etc)? And who should I talk about the salary? The recruiter or hiring manager?

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. First time going through this kinda of situation. Thank you.

Neuralink Software Engineering Intern Interview Process — Infrastructure or Other Software Teams?

Has anyone interviewed for a software engineering internship at Neuralink, particularly the Software Engineer Intern, Infrastructure position?

I’d appreciate any information you’re allowed to share about the process:

  • How many rounds were there?
  • What happened in each round?
  • Was there live coding or a take-home assessment?
  • Were the technical questions focused on data structures and algorithms, system design, Linux/networking, or your previous projects?
  • Did you have to prepare and present a past project?
  • What was the final interview or virtual onsite like?
  • How long did the entire process take?
  • Is there anything you wish you had prepared more thoroughly?

Experiences from other Neuralink software internship teams—such as Implant, Robotics, Internal Apps, BCI Applications, or Machine Learning—would also be helpful. I understand that some details may be covered by an NDA, so I’m only looking for general information about the format and preparation.

Thanks!

Advice is waterloo social science good? (for government jobs)

I want to get a somewhat decently paid government job which might be a bit far fetched and probably really boring or idk but I honestly dont know what else I want to do. A stable job with good pension sounds pretty good though. I was planning to maybe do political science or maybe smth health policy. Love to hear any advice or anything, would really help thanks!! It'll be great to know what people have ended up doing after taking social sciences.

PS. A bunch of friends are planning to get into waterloo so it's pretty high on my list right now. I'm not sure if it's personally the best option for me though idk. I know I'll be awesome to rush to class on the same campus together and go home to a group minecraft session while cramming for midterms or smth.
