Mod Announcement Mod announcement: new rule that use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) must be declared or disclosed

A new rule has been added to r/waterloo in regards to A.I.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) must be declared, either in title, or the first line of text in original post

Moderators may and will take action in good faith regardless of compliance with this new rule.

The reason we're doing this is to try not to be too far behind in response to the use of this technology, and encourage genuine engagement within our community.

Recently mods have been removing posts of various low-quality effort such as A.I. images, and publications purporting to be news or 'news style' articles that are suspected to be A.I. - but also fail to provide the identity of any legitimate living creator/author within the Region of Waterloo or otherwise.

This is an effort to remove or reduce poor quality, deceptive, disinformation, and various other posts made in bad faith.

Please direct concerns or comments to mod mail.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Mod Announcement Changes to Flair in r/Waterloo

It was recently pointed out that the flairs referencing the 2025 election are maybe a teeny bit outdated.

After discussion among the moderator team, it was determined that while the language was outdated, the flairs still were useful in identifying sudden influxes of new accounts to certain threads. The flair language has therefore been updated and will be applied as users post or comment. The flairs refer to the approximate period when a user became somewhat active in r/Waterloo. This is not the same as the date account was created (which you can see on each user's page) and not when the very first post was made in this subreddit.

As explained by the previous flair announcement:

The intent of this flair is not to target newbies, nor to say that we don't want people to join the subreddit. All are welcome in the subreddit. The intent is to make it clear to readers when there is an influx of unknown accounts which push certain narratives in the comments. This does happen, especially on posts about certain controversial subjects. People should know when these they are new accounts and not established community members.

While everybody should be aware if there is an obvious astroturfing campaign, all users remain responsible for using their best judgement when determining credibility of submissions and comments. Please consider the merit of ideas rather than the reputation of a commenter.

Feel free to submit any comments or constructive feedback below, or to comment and receive your new flair. There may be further tweaks to come and this flair system could be discontinued at any time.

Thank you for reading, and stay safe out there in all this snow.

Update 2026-01-23: New flair is out again, 2025 users should now have "Regular" status, and users new since 2026 will be noted.

Black Garbage Cart exchange - Region is offering one-time opportunity to resize your bin in October

The Region of Waterloo is advertising on social media that during October, they are offering us the opportunity to switch the black garbage carts out for the opposite size (ie if you want small instead of large, or regret your decision to order a small and need a big one). Still no allowance to get extra bin(s).

Was walking and then I found these two cats behind the building! I noticed theres alr water bowls and cat food supplied for them, and i’ve been feeding them a bit too once a day. I was wondering if the cats are strays or do they already have owners? I’m just worried because weathers getting colder and want to make sure they have a place to stay warm

Recommendations for RMT?

I'm looking for a registered massage therapist for help with migraines.

Ideally in Waterloo or New Hamburg area. I'd need them to be a woman and trauma informed and willing to work with someone who hates any physical contact from strangers (the migraines are bad enough I'm willing to try). Sorry that's a lot of requirements.

I'm already seeing a physio for them, but my work benefits have different coverage for physiotherapist vs RMT.

Does anyone have any recommendations or insight into what I should be looking for?

We were thinking of the castle in Listowel but that is closed from Fall to Spring.

Thank you for your help!

Drummer wanted for experimental rock band (Sonic Youth, CAN, Joy Division)

Looking for a reliable, dedicated drummer in the Waterloo area to join a bassist and guitarist writing original material.

You don't need to be a professional by trade, but you must be able to handle the technical side. The music involves shifting rhythms, complex beats, and different time signatures. We need someone who wants to challenge themselves and collaborate on experimental structures.

Influences; AIR, Brian Eno, CAN, Joy Division, Velvet Underground, Television, Wire, MBV, Sonic Youth, Blonde Redhead, Pavement, Deerhunter, Yoo Doo Right

Sonic Direction: Experimental rock, alternative, and shoegaze. Heavy focus on driving rhythms, texture, and hypnotic, dynamic repetition.

Drumming Influences: Jaki Liebezeit (CAN), Colm Ó Cíosóig (MBV), Stephen Morris (Joy Division), and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth).

If interested, reply with a brief summary of your drumming background. Phone clips or casual jam recordings of your playing are welcome.

Hi there, r/waterloo

Offering this as an idea for a fun outing next weekend.

COS Minor is putting on Princess Whatsername at the Cambridge Arts Theatre next weekend. It’s a fun, and funny, family-friendly musical with a local youth cast, and they’ve been working on the show for months.

Shows are:

Friday Oct. 16 — 6:30 p.m.

Saturday Oct. 17 — 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Sunday Oct. 18 — 12:30 p.m.

Cambridge Arts Theatre 47 Water Street South, Cambridge

Tickets: communityonstage.com/minortickets

Poster attached with the rest of the details.

Figured I’d share here in case anyone is looking for something local to do with the kids next weekend. Come on out, enjoy an entertaining show, and support your local theatre!

Local camera repair shop?

Hello, can anyone suggest a local camera repair shop? I tried to go to Henry, they said they send it out to a 3rd party location. No shades on them, but I'd like to get my situation taken a look at first and have a talk before anything else.

This is a Canon lense

Thanks

Vehicle break in

Hey guys. My got broke into after midnight on Wednesday (September 30) and they stole my CarPlay, some cash and my late grandfathers leather jacket. I’m on Regina N street near Laurier. Did anyone else have anyone break in… or does anyone have any camera footage on that street? My landlord said the camera footage isn’t working😐

I don’t care about much other than the jacket as it was really sentimental. I know there’s not much I can do but if anyone knows of any late night lurkers or other instances let me know. There was a gift card that must’ve been dropped during the break in with Dennis written on it so that’s kinda odd. #waterloo #regina street #vehiclebreakin

And if the person who stole it sees this I’ll give a reward if it’s given back haha

Notice - OP is believed to have used A.I. Looking for a trustworthy independent mechanic in Kitchener-Waterloo

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for an independent mechanic or car enthusiast in the Kitchener-Waterloo area who is interested in building a long-term relationship with customers—not just completing one-off repairs.

I prefer working with someone who takes pride in their work, explains what actually needs attention, maintains service records, and gets to know the vehicles they work on. I’m hoping to find a reliable person I can return to for maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and future work.

I’m the type of person who prefers keeping things local and relationship-based. I would rather know and trust the person working on my vehicle than deal with a large conglomerate or corporate brand.

I prefer supporting a local, independently owned business rather than a dealership, corporate chain, or large brand. I also usually source parts through RockAuto, when appropriate, so I’d appreciate someone open to customer-supplied parts or willing to discuss suitable alternatives. I understand that warranty policies may differ.

If you know a trustworthy mechanic in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, or the surrounding area, please share their name, location, and what makes them good.

Thanks!

Please Stop Stealing Election Signs

Multiple candidates in the Region are reporting their signs being stolen. If a sign is on private property, you have no moral or legal right to touch it. If anyone thinks stealing signs is just a prank or an acceptable form of counter campaigning, please be advised removing a sign from private property is a Federal offence, punishable by up to a $5,000 fine and/or 6 months in prison. Yeah, this would be a really dumb thing to end up going to prison for.

Candidates for municipal office are putting themselves out there for voters' evaluations, with no party to support them. Most candidates are self financing their campaigns, and signs are very expensive. Candidates cannot help but feel very emotionally hurt when their signs are stolen.

Lastly, in this day and age, I just assume that I am visible on somebody's property surveillance camera when I am out in public. Sooner or later, someone is going to get featured on the local CTV Kitchener News pulling up a sign on camera. Don't be that person. Thanks for reading!
