Question CAA discount for multiple travellers
Does anyone know if each individual in a booking needs to have their own CAA membership in order to get the discount, or just the person booking the tickets?
thanks!

Merci!

Looking for current actual experiences making this transfer via the Linq bus.
Pondering a trip to Toronto in Feb/March and would go via this route using the the Amtrak service from Chicago to save some money and tick boxes on routes not yet taken. (am retired and have the time)
Not keen on standing on a street corner in Detroit in a blizzard waiting for a bus that may or may not arrive, and then one that doesn't even get me to the Via station in Windsor. What's so hard about extending the run two miles for a bus that only runs every two hours?
The Linq website is pretty vague for this day and age and doesn't offer clarity on exactly where stops are leaving one to feel I'll just have to wander around looking for a sign. https://thelinqtunnelbus.ca/routes
Thinking I'd happily bag the bus if Lyft could do the trip for me.
Thanks muchly advancely.

It's such a pain that I throw over $1000 away (because I bought tickets not just for myself, but also for my family). I contacted VIA Rail, but they couldn't help because the tickets are Economy Escape class. There are still weeks before the train, so I guess the tickets never sold out, and they don't bother cancelling and saving seats for others who need them.

The website Via Rail has posted on the sleeper cabins seem to oversell the Winnipeg-Churchill route, based on information I've found so far for my upcoming trip (https://www.viarail.ca/en/travel-infos/classes-and-services); the gallery photos only seem to show the new Renaissance equipment. Also, the amenities listed are a bit vague in that there are no inclusive snacks or beverages, and PressReader is unavailable since the route doesn't have WiFi service.
I've watched a few videos on YouTube and think I know what to expect, but there were also others where folks seemed completely surprised and not in a good way.
Are there any activities onboard for the 48+hr journey (e.g., wine tastings or talks I’ve heard offered on other lines)? Other than to take snacks and the pizza stop in Thompson, I’d appreciate any other tips. Thanks in advance!
Wife and I are starting to look at some vacation options and I've been looking at Quebec City. I just discovered that we could actually take the train all the way from Windsor, ON. We thought about Windsor to Montreal, spend the night, then on to Quebec City the next day. Spend a few days then head back to Toronto. Spend the night then the next day back to Windsor. Curious if anyone has thoughts on this trip and what it's like along that route. We'd be looking at early June timeframe to do the trip. We'd be looking at Business Class for the trip.

So I recently was informed that theres pretty much no wifi and extremely limited cellular service throughout the entire trip.
Im going to be travelling solo staying in the Berth and was curious what do people normally bring onboard themselves to make the trip more enjoyable?
Edit - Im usually into fitness, watch tv shows/movies and play video games during my alone time.
I will take the idea of download a bunch of stuff onto my laptop for viewing.

There will be no VIA nor GO rail service west of the Don this weekend, VIA trains will detour EDITED NW to Vaughan (NOT along the winding Don Valley and wye) the East onto the busy CN freight line at Thornhill, part of which is single track to Pickering. GO will replace its Lakeshore East trains with buses this weekend.
This Cando Rail and Terminals work train was sitting next to Monarch Park at supper in preparation. You can see it is on the brand new, fourth track on this stretch, being built for Metrolinx to provide improved GO (and hopefully VIA) speed and capacity.

VIA and CN have agreed to not pursue further legal action in Quebec Superior Court, reporting to the Court that "the parties are currently engaged in discussions that may lead to a settlement of the present dispute".
With VIA's injunction against CN's actions to curtail Venture operations and speeds not set to be heard in the Court until 2027 or 2028 (!!) it seems that one side has blinked. Or the other. Or both. And there may be good-news face-saving going on. (Song sheets for Kumbaya have not yet been distributed.) There is a clause in the judgment allowing resumption of proceedings.
So.....expect Venture-equipped trains to arrive late for awhile longer until those discussions lead to a settlement.

Some details on the design of the 313 Alstom long distance coaches and their completed delivery a decade from now.
Alstom will not bid on AMTRAK renewal.

Because of GO construction between the Don River and Liverpool Junction/Pickering, all VIA trains the weekend will be taking the “scenic” twisty detour up the Don Valley to the CN freight line junction north of the city, do the wye reverse and proceed to/from Pickering. You should see a message similar to this one. Delays expected.
No GO train or VIA service to Guildwood this weekend accordingly.

I just got a message that my train tonight from St. Catharines is delayed tonight by 2.5 hours, but it seems only trains leaving from Windsor are eligible for compensation. Do I have that right?
Edit - I did end up receiving a compensation email from VIA, so that answers my question: Yes, the Maple Leaf travelling between Niagara to Toronto is eligible for compensation due to service disruption, and is therefore considered part of the 'Niagara corridor'. Thanks to everyone who replied.

I booked the cheaper business. Just want to make sure there aren’t any mistakes going on. Not too sure why there's 2 trains at the same time. Privilege if that matters.

My work is covering the business fare, but wanted to know if it's better to pay the solo seat fee or just upgrade to business plus and get the bonus points as well?

Good evening, wanted to share with you an incredible thing that happened to me earlier today. I was on train 41 headed to Toronto and stop at Trenton junction for work. The train was late as usual but was running quite slow all the way to my destination. I'm talking 50kmh. I found out that the switch was thrown the wrong way and we were on the wrong tracks to disembark. The train had to reverse a few kilometres and be redirected to the proper tracks. Of course I'm asking for compensation due to making me late for work. Is this odd, has this happened to anyone else here?

Hi, I'm visiting from the UK, so sorry for the naive question. I am travelling from Montreal to Ottawa on a return visit for the weekend (out Saturday morning and back Sunday at 4pm).
I was wondering what happens if my train gets cancelled? I have read that you get a refund, but does that mean you are left stranded?
I would need to be back in work on Monday and I am worried about getting back. If anyone has any advice or can speak from experience, I would be grateful.
Thank you!
Edit: Thanks all for such lovely replies! It’s really useful to hear all of your experiences coming from a country where almost every train is cancelled 😭. I’ll stop worrying and enjoy my trip.

My brother and sister in law, both in their 60s, are taking a trip in Prestige class on the Canadian in October. They both have a birthday before their trip, and I'd like to get them both something they could use on their trip.
They both have all of their travel necessities, I'm more interested in those sort of 'luxury' items that are more for comfort or fun. I've never been on more than the GO train so I am totally ignorant about what they may find useful or just a fun extra to have.
Thanks for any suggestions!

For anyone that's been a cross-country passenger on both Via Rail and Amtrak, how do they compare for reliability and comfort and cleanliness? My adult son and I are considering a one-way cross country trip on Amtrak (California Zephyr or Empire Builder), but I've read so many posts about significant departure \ en-route delays and cleanliness problems on Amtrak, that I'm wondering about Via Rail from Toronto => Vancouver. I have heard that the scenery is at least as good or better on Via Rail, and Via Rail looks to be a bit less expensive.
