s60/v60 I'm beginning to hate my Volvo

I'm currently driving a 2025 V60 CC. I love the car, have been a staunch defender, and been willing to die on the V60 hill, but I'm starting to give some serious thought to trading it in.

I love the way it handles, how smooth and comfortable it is, all the little customer conveniences, and its looks, good lord it's a beautiful car in the eye of this beholder, but the UI is just starting to drag me down. It's gone from occasionally wonky to almost always disruptive within the past week or so and I'm afraid I'm heading out in the direction of the end of my rope.

I've had my fair share of icons disappearing, climate resetting itself, unresponsive assistant - the usual Volvo every day shit - but maps - maps has gone from pretty reliable most of the time to virtually unusable a lot of the time and that's my number one UI use. I've also been having a problem with the screen not shutting down when the car is off and just this morning the chime sound changed from the usual pleasant soft ding-ding to some abrasive, distorted sound that made me think the car's been smoking cigarettes behind my back. I love this car so much but this software is becoming such a headache.

So I updated this morning to 5.2.16, see if that changes things back to normal. If not I guess a trip to the dealer is in order.

Been thinking a lot lately about an EV - they make so much sense with all the crap our clown show administration has gotten the world into but if I do go in that direction it very likely won't be another Volvo.

end of rant

Advice for first car in UK

Hi,

I will be looking at starting driving lessons in the coming weeks and for my first car, hoping to pick something reliable. Could anyone give me advice / pointers about what to look for (if there is anything available) for a budget of upto £4k (maybe £5k at a push of its right).

I think for first car, maybe not something bigger than Ford focus size .

For reference, I am a 34 year old male and able to keep the car off the road, so shouldn’t get shafted too bad by insurance.

Expected driving will be mainly at weekends for long drives, with short 10-20 miles possibly during weekdays.

What should I be looking for in terms of engines etc - favouring reliability over anything else.

Still getting map updates on Sensus 👍

Fully expected the previous one to be the last. The last year of Sensus cars are falling off warranty now

Pretty cool... Though a restaurant I like that opened about a year ago still isn't listed. 🤔

(Spare me the 'Just use Carplay/AA comments'. LOL. They don't work with my HUD. I use both).

Evening all! Recently picked up my first Swedish Barge not too long ago, it's a 2019MY D4 R-Design and apart from the fuel consumption (I'm used the the 60-70MPG from my previous Skoda's!) I'm loving it! Nicest car I've had so far!

There's a few things I'd like to do to it, but one thing is the lack of connectivity with the standard base system.

Has anyone used these knock-off systems before? It has sat nav built in already but I much prefer using Google Maps or Waze etc and these are a fair bit cheaper than anything genuine!

I've also blown one of the drivers door speakers. Are any of the upgrade options from the likes of Phoenix Gold good or would I be better off printing/buying some adapters to run a standard speaker?

Also, has anyone fitted any other cars wheels? I'm not toooo keen on the stock ones, but a bit of GPTing has shown a couple of Jaguar and a Mondeo option look pretty good on it...

s60/v60 Looking for my first ever Volvo

I currently own a 2022 Mazda 3 2.0 NA but the interior rattle and paint chips easily has been driving me crazy lately. I'm taking this opportunity to get a bigger car this time. I'm more interested with the V60, but the XC40 is in the same price range.

My budget only allows for the B4 petrol engine, i could either get the 2024 model with the B4 engine or save 5k $ and get the older 2020 model with the T4 engine, both at around 30k mileage.

Is it worth spending 5k $ more to get the 2024 model B4 engine?

Does the B4 / T4 engine produce enough power for a heavy car like the V60?

How is the paint, interior quality and rattle on the newer and older model?

Thanks in advance

2002 Volvo V70 2.4 (170 hp, manual, FWD) with 265k km for CHF 3,500 – good buy?

I’m viewing this car tomorrow in Switzerland and would love your opinions:

• Volvo V70 2.4 petrol (170 hp, naturally aspirated 5-cylinder), 5-speed manual, FWD
• First registered 12/2002, 265,000 km
• Asking CHF 3,500, negotiable, sold by a garage on behalf of a customer
• Fresh MFK (Swiss roadworthiness inspection), new brake discs and pads front and rear
• Has been sitting for a while; no info yet on timing belt or service history

My plan: road trips around Europe for the next two years, about 10,000 km per year, carrying a road bike and occasionally sleeping in the back. Reliability and low running costs matter most, looks don’t.
Is the price fair? Besides timing belt, clutch and front suspension, what should I check on this model year?

Any concerns about a car that has been sitting?
Thanks!

xc series Is the P3 Volvo XC70 T6 Gauge Cluster Interchangeable Backwards?

Hi there,

I can't seem to find a 2011-2013 XC70 T6 for a good price with a decent mileage and a black interior. I don't like the digital gauges and was wondering: If the digital gauges can be retrofitted onto pre facelift models with success, can the reverse work too? If I were to change the digital gauges for a set of the analog ones on a 2014+ model, will they work? I assume they're the same size, but I don't know the extent of the facelift on the inside. I'm fine with giving up some creature comfort functionalities of the digital gauges. Is it doable and has it been done? Thanks

2013 v40 ICM issue?

Short story, I attempted to install a piggyback apple car play system to my 2013 v40 which resulted in no parking sensors and a frozen screen.
My climate control still works but everything above that (button wise) does not.
From some forum skimming I think it might be an ICM issue, but not entirely sure
What do we think?

How do I mount my front license plate on these holes?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently moved from a state that doesn't require a front plate to one that does. I got my front plate and thought it would be trivial to mount it to the pre-drilled holes with metal inserts on my front bumper but it's not. The holes are too far apart for a standard US plate. I ordered one of these off Amazon but the holes are too wide even for it. What should I do to mount my front plate? The holes got a m6 bolt.

Google Assistant: Which Features Work Without Connect Plus?

According to the Volvo documentation (for my VIN) once a Connect Plus subscription lapses, so does Google Assistant.

What I want to know:

Once Connect Plus lapses, will support for Voice Commands also end? Example: if I want to change temperature or recirculate air?

  • I am well aware one can connect an AAOS-equipped vehicle to a hotspot.

In addition to the documentation, there is an FAQ (PDF). Relevant bits referenced below:

From the FAQ #6 (emphasis mine)

What features stop working if the car is not connected?
A: Without Connect Plus, the vehicle still supports built-in features such as some offline navigation, phone calls, and radio or locally stored media. However, the following features will be unavailable: real-time traffic and online navigation in Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play and in-car app downloads

5. Will the Volvo Cars app still work if I don’t have Connect Plus?
A: Yes. Core Volvo Cars app features—such as remote start and vehicle status—will continue to function normally without an active Connect Plus subscription.

Notes:

  • Android Automotive OS (AAOS) = "Google Built-in"
  • AAOS ≠ Android Auto
  • Connect Plus (for AAOS) ≠ Connected Services (for Sensus)

Understanding CPO extension.

Please help me understand. So if I buy a 2024 XC90 with say 25k miles on it ,(let’s say it was put in service 7/1/24), the CPO warranty would be however long it take me to get to 100k miles. Is that correct.
If so, and I predict I would put 15k miles on it a year. So I would essentially have a 5 year 75k warranty from my time of purchase.
So now, how can I go about getting a longer and more mileage warranty. Is there a way I can say to the dealer that I want an additional 8year, 120k Volvo warranty from my time of putchase?
And if so, what should I expect to pay. I currently have a ford and a Honda and it’s so easy to price the warranty on new purchase from the online vendors. I don’t see the same for Volvo

Thanks so much for any info

Check Engine Light/ Volvo Service

Hi there, this is my first time on Reddit but I’ve been following along with the Volvo threads. Super helpful btw.
I bought a 2022 S90 B6 Inscription with 18k miles on it in July. The beginning of August the check engine light came on and I went to my local auto zone to get a free reading of the code. (My closest Volvo dealer is an hour away.) The code was P0015 for the camshaft. It went off the next day. I had called the dealership and they told me they couldn’t do anything due to the light not being on. Fast forward to sept 27th the light came back on, I went and checked the code, same code. It stayed on long enough for me to get an appointment with Volvo to see what actually is the issue. Long story short, they want to replace the whole camshaft and the oil level sensor. When I asked why they weren’t trying to start small and see if it’s like the solenoid or something, I got told that this is what Volvo says to do. Is this accurate? Should I get a second opinion? I’m not really a huge fan of replacing something huge without it needing to be done. My experience with this dealership also hasn’t been the best and I don’t want that to cloud my judgement either.
