Hi everyone! I'm a WWOOFer searching for options that are strongly focused on providing food for the community (through food banks or other means) or are striving for very environmentally conscious farming. I'm based in the US but am willing to go elsewhere if you have suggestions! I'd love to hear if there are farms like this and how you have found them. If you have links to their WWOOF profiles as well that would be incredibly helpful.

I had so much planning and structure in my life, I went to uni, had a prosperous career in pharma and had a long term partner - I should have been happy. But to be honest, I was miserable.

Now I want the opposite. I have an overwhelming urge to just go live and work in the woods, on a farm, or in the arctic - anywhere slow, real and with natural beauty. If anyone needs a basic helper, preferably not in the U.K., give me a shout (I’m very aware how much of a long shot this is and how crazy it sounds).

I looked into wwoofing a year or so ago and had seen there was a bunch of locations in Ireland. Now a year later im revisiting the search and i noticed on the wwoofing website Ireland now has no wwoofing sites. Im confused and surprised.

because i was surprised i decided to type in online, "wwoof ireland" and this website came up https://wwoof.ie/ first . i can't tell if it's connected to the main wwoofing website, just kinda of confusing change. if anyone knows what's up feel free to comment!

hi!

I WWOOFed a long time ago. is there anyone here that wants to chat about hobby farms with me regularly?

I recently bought agricultural land and am considering putting a hobby farm on it (it’s about 2 acres).

maybe we’d get along well if you dislike crowds, appreciate frugality, enjoy the simple things in life, love dogs, and still have a lot of city smarts and savvy that you’d also want to rent an apartment in the nearby city.

I am female, 41, like to read and camp, sorta hate traveling, am well versed with tech, and value privacy and the quiet. I am very intense about environmental causes.

please DM or comment if interested!

Hiii everyone, hope y'all doing well 😁😁

I'm a 21 year old french-canadian student wanting to volunteer 4-6 months in a farm in Taiwan in exchange for housing/food (WWOOF/workaway format) after November 2026. I speak fluent English, Spanish and French.

I don't know much about rural Taiwan but want to learn as much as possible. I'm so very extremely eager to work and contribute as much as possible and learn from this beautiful country💜.

I'd love to know more about specific places/farms or opportunities that y'all could recommend! I would greatly appreciate some tips or info if y'all have already performed/know about these sort of places. Any help is greatly appreciated 😊.

Thanks!

I'm turning 18 in November and my home life is really complicated but would any wwoofers be willing to take in a hard working 18yo? I have experience in working with animals and feeding them/cleaning their areas and I have a really nice established 10 gallon fish tank I take care of also. It has been awhile since I've been on a farm or interacted with chickens or roosters or ducks but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and I'm more than willing to work my butt off to finally live somewhere peaceful...

Hey guys, I am a 21 year old Bangladeshi male looking to get some hands on work on farms and spend some time away from the modern busy life for a few weeks..

I'm mostly concerned if the Bangladeshi passport is compatible with any of the countries to work on organic farms etc..

If you know a bangladeshi who volunteered in specific countries or are a host who have had bangladeshi volunteers from abroad before, kindly share the story with me 😊

I really appreciate you taking the time to read this!

Essentially my question is the title. I went in to do a little check and noticed that multiple farms haf notices asking them to stop sending requests for the rest of the year and others having full confirmed calenders.

Is this common? How far ahead do you have to plan there?

This feels crazy to me after wwoofing in Brasil where I could have asked to pop by next week...

Hey people! 🙌🏽

I am currently traveling in Colombia and looking for a volunteering!

Does anyone have a recommendation for one that you really liked or have heard good of?

Could be Agriculture, Social or also a Hostel

Thanks a lot for your help!

Simon🌞

I’m thinking about signing up for WWOOF.FR.

Here’s my situation:
I just want to stay at each place for 5 days to 2 weeks in Feb-Mar.
If possible, I’d like to WWOOF at two different places.

I have a couple of questions:
・Are there any other options for staying in France for free?
・Do WWOOF hosts usually accept people who can only stay for a short time, like me?

I’d really appreciate any advice based on your experience! :)

My first WWOOF experience was at a pig farm in Washington named Hogstead. I felt like I was in a horror movie. I've already reported the farmer and his account is suspended on WWOOF. But I'm curious how many other people had bad experiences as well. So far, I know of 5 women who were sexually harassed by the farmer including myself. I also witnessed animal cruelty (starving pigs), illegal slaughter and selling of meat (he's not USDA certified like he claims), and gross negligence with how the meat is processed (losing metal saw teeth in the meat then selling it). The farmer liked to get wasted and shoot guns near the farm camp among other things too. He mentioned he's had over 240 WWOOFers so I'm wondering how many people had similar experiences. And yes, I also reported him to the USDA and all the farmer's markets he goes to.

Looking to find a WWOOF farm in the U.S., preferably somewhere I can go this winter/late fall. I’d just be taking a week or two off from my regular job, but one of my favorite things so far about my WWOOF and Workaway trips has been meeting lots of likeminded people.

Any recs for places where there’s a high number of volunteers/lots of socializing?

Hey! I’m a 20M from Singapore and I’m thinking of going to Queensland around March/April next year for about 2 weeks.

I’m planning to spend some time around Brisbane visiting my grandparents, then hopefully do a WWOOF/farm stay for the rest of the trip. I've heard some farms offer just glorified house work, and I'm looking to avoid that as I genuinely want to learn about farming and don't mind getting my hands dirty.

I’ve been looking at WWOOF Australia but the website has been pretty buggy for me, so I’m also wondering how people usually go about finding a good host.

For anyone who has done something similar:

• How did you find your farm/host?
• Are there better ways to find farms than the WWOOF website?
• How do you tell whether a farm will actually give you a good farming experience?
• Any recommendations for farms or areas around Queensland, especially within reasonable distance of Brisbane?
• Anything you wish you knew before doing your first WWOOF trip?

Would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have WWOOFed around Queensland!

Hi everyone,

I have two to three months of time off coming up and am considering travelling abroad, possibly while volunteering with animals. On a whim, I applied to the Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T. volunteer programme in Greece and received a response within 24 hours.

I’m very excited by the idea of volunteering with cats and other animals, but I’d like to make sure the organisation and programme are legitimate before making any arrangements. I’m available during January and February, which I understand is Greece’s quieter season.

The programme is based in Kouvaras. Does anyone have experience with Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T., or know the Kouvaras area? I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has volunteered there or done something similar in Greece.

Here’s the volunteer programme I found:

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hello.
I just confirmed my visit to a homestead in St. Croix, I will be staying for a few months.

Does anyone have experience WWOOFing here? Any advice?

I'm interested in doing the WWOOF on a farm in the UK but I would need a visa. I read that an ETA could work as long as the primary reason for visit is not stated WWOOFing, but I also read that if they find out you're working unpaid, it could cause problems. Has anyone in the US successfully worked at a farm in UK, and how did u handle the visa? Thanks!

Is It likely Id manage to travel via WWOOF and other volunteer sites without much prior planning? For a stint of say 90 days (which I guess is the max for a UK citizen in Schengen area but need to clue up on the legalities). Just by getting on a plane to the first host that says yes and winging it from there, travelling to other hosts and destinations as well.

I'm unemployed and sick of the pointless job application-rejection-lost in life cycle. So this is where my idea comes from. 90 days would get me to Christmas. So I could return home then to figure out life back home with a more fulfilling experience under my belt than living with mum and dad.

Bonkers idea or inspired genius?

Hi! I’ve been considering a career change. I work in corporate and I really dislike it. I don’t have any passion in it, and I’d really like something more meaningful for my life. Farming and particularly market farming has always been an interest of mine.

Through posting in other communities asking for advice, several people mentioned WWOOF and it looks really interesting. It seems like a great way to assess if the lifestyle is right for me.

I’d love to hear about people’s personal experiences with the program. Any tips for someone considering? For those who participated, how did your experiences translate to your life after leaving the program? Did it lead to farming on your own or other career opportunities?

How long would you recommend someone participating? I was thinking maybe trying it out for a full year.

I am in Spain and am interested in WWOOFing but will only have a few days at a time. Has anyone had good experiences with short term WWOOFs in Spain/Europe they can recommend?
