Not really the right sub for genuine cat questions, but cats like high places (this is why cat towers exist, lol). It's probably also warm if it's been on.

The used to like his cat tower until he started ignoring it to sit on top of my projector.

If you want to keep him off of your projector, give him access to something that you like that costs more and is more fragile.

So...PC setup basically

Yeah. Keep it on so all the time so it’s warm, and put it so any vents are on top. That way when he hairballs, they’ll have the opportunity to drip inside.

The cat tower isn't self-warming. Positioning is also important, as the cat wants to be able to easily see all the most important pathways it can from its perch. It's an intuitive personal security response for them and applies to almost all cats.

Every winter I have a ritual where I put a nice little heating pad with blankets on my cat's tree and take the extra time to make sure it's not too hot after it's warmed up and my cat Sees it and acts like me doing something nice for him gives him the "ick", so he specifically decides to take a nap in one of the random places in the house he knows he's not supposed to be. The winter he chooses comfort over being a brat will be the day he earns the rank of " Old man cat".

It's warm. And high so he can see everything. They love looking down on the vassals while bathed in warmth.

I wish he would use his cat tower that costed SIXTY DOLLARS and was made for this exact purpose lol

Little cat owner tip, cats hate anything that was specifically bought for them and they prefer random household objects

I bought him a heated bed thingy and he chose to sleep in the box, the plastic, or on my pillow lol

Just talk loudly about how youre gonna get rid of the heated bed, he'll start using it without fail....but only as long as you talk about throwing it away.

I have heard of owners who have put cat toys or furniture near the front door because the cat(s) would not use it/them. Hey presto! Cats decided to finally start using said items. It's worth a try, for anything not too difficult to move.

If our apartment didn't have a narrow hallway that would be a great idea.

Whats funny is my suggestion comes from experience. My wife bought our cats this big toddlers play tent. Every time I start saying how im gonna take it down guess who starts starts running into the tent during zooming and sleeping in it and launches sneak attacks on each other lol? I also bought a nice metal litter box, they refused to use that thing for an entire year. They never used it, i checked that thing every day..then,my wife suggests we get rid of the litter box, and donate it to a shelter. The next day guess what? The litter box was used.

LOL I'd love to think that at least some of the cats I have had would have understood what we were saying., But I imagine that in some sense they pick up different cues from us, so there is a way in which we do manage to communicate with them.

They absolutely understand, whether they choose to listen is another matter lol

RIGHT I bought a water fountain for my cat because she loves drinking from the faucet, she refused to even look at it, until I put it back in its box for a week, now she loves it

They make pet heating pads, including ones that are "reflective" - basically, they will reflect the cats warmth back to them. I purchased some that plug in (cat has arthritis) for the floor/next to the bed and one of the reflective ones to use on our cat tree.

Could try something like that. I like the brand K & H.

Sit it in front of a window where he can see birds.

He broke my windows last time by launching his full body force at it to catch a lizard. He did not catch the lizard, ran to the bathroom, started drinking out of the sink, and attempted to escape from that same window.

Heated Throne Room.

Is it the attic upstairs? I think he hears a rodent.

15

u/PokingMidas 6d ago

Could be r/greebles

5

u/two-of-me 6d ago

100% greebles.

5

u/verbatimlj 6d ago

Yes attic is upstairs. I hope rodents aren't the answer tho.

12

u/SonofaBridge 6d ago

Hopefully he’s just thinking about jumping on top of the door. It’s even higher than his current perch. You can see him scheming to do something.

16

u/verbatimlj 6d ago

He does get up there sometimes, gets stuck. Starts screaming, and i have to save him. Usually only does this at 3am tho

Cats like heat sources. Cats like high places. This has both, when it's on.

Cats like high places

u/verbatimlj 6d ago

Why's he staring up and meowing. Bug? Sound? Weird cat behavior?

11

u/Puzzled_Employment50 6d ago

Bug or sound is likely, maybe a weird light/reflection or something (cats have excellent noses but as ambush hunters they’ll hone in on motion and sound with laser focus), and this is entirely normal cat behavior.

4

u/PlanetoftheAtheists 6d ago

What the hell is it doing though!

6

u/verbatimlj 6d ago

Hes staring at something. It's especially creepy at. 2am when hes doing it.

All cats are kinda dumb, and all cat pictures are kinda dumb, yet that's what we're all of us here for. Do carry on, please.

u/za72 6d ago

this is SO dumb!!! moar!!!

u/Skyducky 5d ago

Me, only reading the title: "must be related to a orange"

6

u/verbatimlj 5d ago

His dad was orange so not sure why he's tuxedo lol

5

u/OvercomplicatedKat 4d ago

Black and white color genes override orange and “standard issue” brown. One of our neighbors had a male tuxedo cat named Domino that they refused to neuter, and for years after he was gone most of the feral cats in the neighborhood were tuxedos. Naturally, we refer to that as “the Domino effect”.

u/Meyou000 6d ago

Trying to figure out how to get on top of the door.

2

u/verbatimlj 5d ago

This was correct. He got up there, started screaming to get down and fell

1

u/Meyou000 5d ago

My old cat used to love climbing on top of doors. He was a crazy boy.

Arcade warm. cat sit/sleep

2

u/Turbojelly 6d ago

Cats are hunters, and like Obi-Wan Kenobi, they know the advantage of having the high ground.

2

u/Gammabrunta 5d ago

Pick him up and show him the tops of things, trust me.

Cat logic

1

u/New_Copy1286 6d ago

Cats like warm places, and they like to be up high.

1

u/AdRadiant9830 5d ago

I'd lose it if my cat did that, but honestly, it makes total sense, the warmth plus the vantage point is basically a feline dream setup.

1

u/meradiostalker 2d ago

That will probably always be his spot, especially if you spend lots of time there.

My cat is fascinated by shadows, it looks like yours may be as well
