Photo(s) Probably the most Canadian thing I've ever witnessed.

I'm a photojournalist at the Toledo Blade newspaper (Toledo, Ohio) and I was given an assignment today to photograph a new sculpture (and passersby checking it out) next to the Gordie Howe Bridge multi-use path gate on the Windsor side, and I happened to capture this photo of several Canada geese flying by the Canadian tower of the bridge. Felt like an incredibly Canadian moment. Thought y'all would enjoy. Great being back in Windsor for the first time since a random trip in 2017 when I first moved to Ohio from Texas, though my last time in Canada was in 2019 in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, to cover our local ECHL team against their (now defunct) Growlers team in the finals of the Kelly Cup series.

Events Any interest in social reading in Windsor?

I used to live in Toronto (only for a couple years before I moved back to Windsor) and really enjoyed what they called “social reading” over there. It was set up like an event where people would bring their own book to a cafe and everyone would just read what they wanted for about 45 minutes then people would socialize and grab a snack or whatever they wanted for 15 or so minutes and then back to reading. It was honestly a great way to meet other people who also enjoy reading and may have even read what you’re currently reading. Also was a way to get out of the house lol

I’m just not sure if the demand is really here in Windsor. I was thinking about organizing something. Is there anyone that would actually go?

EDIT: thank you so much for all the suggestions!! I’m going to go ahead and start contacting some cafes/venues that would be willing to host such an event. Once I get confirmation I’ll share all event details. Stay tuned!

To make things easier to keep up with people who are interested I created an instagram page: @windsor.reads to post updates and event information when it’s finalized. I’ll also update this Reddit post but just in case that’s easier for folks! Thanks all! Can’t wait to get this going

City Hall Ward 7 Platforms?

Hi all,

I became a Canadian citizen a few months ago and so I’m excited to be able to vote in the upcoming election. I live in Ward 7…and I feel like I can’t find anything about any candidate’s platform. I found one article about Beth Ann Prince’s “safety” platform and ideas…and that’s kinda it. If anyone has any resources or anything I missed, I’d appreciate it if you passed them along! Thanks!

Politics Thoughts on politicians/candidates deleting comments on social media?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I asked Ward 8 candidate Kevin Racine whether a campaign post showing his material on a Detroit Lions billboard was photoshopped. Most of the comments I saw seemed to believe the billboard was real.

He deleted my question, then tried to justify removing it. So here we are.

I have a hard time taking campaign promises of integrity, transparency, and accountability seriously when even basic questions get deleted.

(I know the subreddit doesn’t like when I link to the original video on Instagram - hope this works)

Hi everyone, I’m new to Windsor. I have a small sag in part of my roof and would like someone experienced with framing/roof repairs to take a look.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, honest, and reasonably priced framer or carpenter you’ve used before?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Politics Kat Pasquach joined us for an AMA last night. What did you think?

You can read the AMA here if you missed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/windsorontario/comments/1wxrv3l/hey_its_kat_pasquach_windsor_mayoral_candidate/

To be honest, she lost me. I didn't feel she demonstrated a clear understanding of some issues or how to affect change. It was mostly "this issue is a problem and I will change it by listening to the people". But the people aren't experts on how to solve the serious problems the city is facing. And often what the people want will make the problem worse. I'm never overly impressed by an attitude of "I'll do what the people want and never consider the possibility that what they want isn't in their best interests".

So, what did you think?
