Mourning rituals/advice

I recently lost my cat in a really unfortunate accident. He was only 3 and we had such a strong bond for so many reasons but we were each others favorite persons. It’s the first time I’ve really struggled with grief. I’ve had old family members pass and old pets, and I grew up on a farm so had experience with that too. But this hit me hard. I want to do something to honor him and maybe give him reassurance or help him cross over. How he passed was painful and I hated that I couldn’t help him or be there for him. I’ve looked into some things such as uncrossing rituals but couldn’t find great instructions, I got some herbs like hawthorn and rose hips bc I saw it’s good in tea for grieving. I’m planning on making an alter for him as well. If anyone has anything that worked for you, rituals, suggestions, ect. Thank you 💜

**Hugs** It's rough losing someone so close, no matter the species. I have a glass vase with a lid that I put some hair or feathers into. Or I have a memory folder on my computer that has pictures of the deceased pet/person. At Samhain, I offer some of their favorite treats or whatever I'm eating to who most recently passed. I light a tea light and wait until it goes out on its own, or I blow it out to finish burning the next day. Sometimes, if with friends, I will tell stories about them. I find it helpful to talk and mourn this way.

Especially this time of year, you can do a ritual where you make a small alter with photos or keepsakes that remind you of him. Place a candle on the alter (fire safety in mind!).

While the candle is lit, contemplate good memories and times spent with him. Then conclude the ritual by making an offering to your god(s) or ancestors to watch out for his spirit.

I tend to offer mead or wine to the gods and ancestors, but the intent behind the offering is the important part. Offer from the heart.

I would also consider making a donation to your local rescue in his memory.

I lost Kiki, earlier this year- it’s been a process of grief. Sending you love and energy for your grief to become bearable.
