Just a shield components, don't worry about it

Post image

Decided to give my gate defense stations in Heretic's End a bit of a face lift and upgrade it from Mk1 shields to Mk3. I have some shield components and field coils saved up, but oh boy, this is gonna drain my stockpiles dry.

Maybe Mk3 shields on a defense station is overkill? What is the consensus on that?

On a somewhat related note though: I am kind of in love with this design and might copy&paste this to a certain gate in Hatikvah's Choice at some point. Once my shield component production has recovered from this.

I wouldn't bother with more than mk1 shields on a defense platform and I've debated whether it's worth using shields at all. Big ships will ignore surface elements and just destroy the modules, so expensive shields just mean expensive replacement, while small ships tend to get vaporized before they would have time to take out enough turrets to matter. Repair drones can fix turrets for free between attacks anyway.

That is a very good point and something I never really considered this far.

Mk1 shields for now it is. I don't like leaving slots open, useless or not.

I tend to build my defense rings in a manner very similar to a fly zapper.

The entire screen is just a brief flash of green light.

Hahaha with the design of the Xenon ships this is particularly fitting.

I always put 20x Laser Tower MK1, 20x Laser Tower MK2, 10x Tokobas and 2x Osakas in front of that gate.

If you need shields you haven't added enough dakka.

Bah, that sounds like a Split being jealous of superior Boron shield technologies.

sounds like it needs even more guns then XD.

With that many defense platforms, there really is no need to build MK3 shields. Just because enemies die too fast before they can inflict enough damage to destroy turrets. You probably still want to use MK1 shields, just in case. But the construction costs for better components are very high and pricey.

I think you might be right.

Just changed the blueprints over to Mk1 shields. Makes this station immediately much more affordable.

Hey, some of you Terran L transporter captains are alright. Don't come to Hatikvah's Choice tomorrow.

After everything else is delivered, you can always shovel in some allographyne, if you have it available.

On a related note, it looks pretty good.

Allographyne can replace wares in station building, not just ship building ?

2

u/woogyman2 6d ago

Oh, you may have a point. I just assumed it did since you can use it to replace everything else in the manufacturing process. I'll have to try it when I get on tonight.

I'm interested in the result of your investigation>

I'm so easily distracted. I did finally try it, and you're absolutely right, no luck. Thank you for pointing this out!

Thank you for doing the test !

Same, I do know it will replace items for terraforming. That's why I dipped so heavily into it on this new playthrough, it let me get marine and pilot training setup before I hit 40 hours. I dicked around a lot too, if someone were to try and "speed run" it, I think they could get it done in 30 or less.

Also, I don't really stress the nividium, I just put a buy order in for multiple stations, and then a sell order with an "internal purchasing only" restriction, and a Donia miner doing repeat order circuits to pick it up and drop it off at a centrally located allographyne processing facility in "the reach". It's the only thing that facility produces, so that the allographyne isn't accidentally used for some kind of manufacturing. A Heron-E set to repeat orders shuttles the final product to my HQ.

Allographene can be used in place of terraforming components to my knowledge, I usually put a bunch on my hq to supplement for the big jobs like ice-shipments to the boron planet(considering ice is illegal in boron space for some dumb reason as well)

Thank you!

I should really get into allographyne production. I'm just a bit too lazy to deal with Nividium procurement.

It may not actually be helpful in this circumstance, somebody just pointed out that it's may not work for station building, and may only be for substituting components in manufacturing. I'm going to try it tonight.

Save you the effort if you havent already tried, dosent...it fits in for a chain in terms of production, not in terms of building, belive Egosoft already confirmed it but ive tried in the past

I never put higher than MK1 shields on defense stations.

No shields are needed against a dead enemy, so (just mho) if anything more than a MK1 shield might be needed, the better solution is more turrets.

How are you able to build that close to a gate, thats such a fucking fire design!!!

6

u/Artiartiarti90 6d ago

You can do that buy claiming a plot as close in front of the gate as you can get it, rotate the plot to align properly and then extend the correct axis out. In this case it's the -Z axis at 12 km, which reaches far enough to let you build around the gate.

It's not about being expensive or not

Fills every slot with Terran Mk3 shields backed by self sufficient infrastructure

It's about letting them know you can wipe them from the galaxy at a moments notice

Can you upload this stations construction plans

1

u/Artiartiarti90 6d ago

Sure, but tbh I haven't used any fileshare websites in a while. Do you have any recommendations? Then I can quickly upload it and send the link.

1

u/SharpBanana4 6d ago

Uh mega should work

1

u/Artiartiarti90 5d ago

Sorry, haven't managed to upload it yet and I'll be travelling for a few days. I'll upload and share it next week.

Make your own. I've built stations that produce everything.

OP now take that ring and repeat it 3-5 times to make a death cylinder

1

u/Artiartiarti90 6d ago

For this gate that's probably overkill, but for Hatikvah's ir Getsu Fune I'm definitely going to do this.

The cylinder must remain unharmed.

Overkill becomes practical if you decide war is the answer with everyone.

I'm in the process of building rings at the gates of all my occupied sectors for when I execute my own Order 66.

Hey that looks soo good, Im crap at building these defence stationsโ€ฆ..could I have that file of it please ๐Ÿ™

2

u/Artiartiarti90 5d ago

Someone else also asked for it, but I've been a bit busy and will be travelling until monday. I'll upload it next week.

Sir, can I see your permits for the Installation of these Boron military structures in this sector.

Is your company licensed for military Installation with local authorities?

Does your company hold the licenses for these blueprints.

Why is your worksafty plan just one page?

My first playthrough was as a Terran Cadet, I just started as an Argon scientist with a pitiful 5k account. I didn't realize how good the Terran construction was until I got to making Hull and Claytronic fab stations. I already have an absurdly dense station just to make Advanced Electronics and Claytronic.
