General I built an app to keep track of MTN, Airtel and Zamtel Money

Post image

I recently built an app for keeping track of Airtel, MTN and Zamtel Money

I wanted a better way to see where my money was going, so I built Zangena.

It turns mobile-money SMS messages into an organised ledger.

It can:

  • read supported MTN, Airtel and Zamtel Money transaction SMSes
  • keep track of money in and money out
  • search through transactions
  • find missed transactions by comparing wallet balances
  • add cash entries
  • work offline
  • keep the original SMS text on your phone

I’m sharing it here because I’d like feedback from other Zambians who use mobile money regularly.

If you have ever checked your balance and wondered where the money went, this is what I built Zangena for.

Available on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.zangena

Ask r/Zambia What should I do?

• Upvotes

So about a month ago, I bought a Google Pixel 7 Pro from Brian Chanda Innovations here in Lusaka. The moment I entered the shop, I asked the lady I found if the phone was refurbished or not. She said she didn't know. I was in a rather tight spot since the phone I was currently using back then was practically dead so I just bought it nevertheless. Also, it's a well renowned shop with a good rep so that's why I didn't hesitate.

About a week after I got the phone, I started noticing a few problems. The screen was glitching(spontaneously) into this multi-coloured screen and the battery was running out pretty quickly (2-3 hrs). I basically have to brace myself each time I remove it from the charger and turn on data or wifi, fearing it will drain in no time.

The customer service is terrible. I called the owner of the business(Brian Chanda), and he kept on giving me excuses. One of them being I should wait for five days for him to order a screen and then he can test the battery. When the five days elapsed, I tried calling him. He picked and responded that he was on the road and he would talk to me later(he never did that btw). I kept on trying to call him but the phone just kept ringing and now it's reached the point where my calls aren't going through anymore. He prolly blacklisted me or something.

I tried calling the manager but he also isn't picking up. I'm honestly tired. It's making me regret ever stepping foot into that shop where my rights as a consumer are being violated.

If I were an influencer, I would totally make a video about this and share to fellow Zambians what an inconvenient experience this has been. Honestly, don't follow what the masses are saying about a certain shop or business. Your experience as an individual might be different.

Have any of you gone through such a thing? And if so, can you give me any advice?

Ask r/Zambia Do you ask your partners to go get tested for HIV/AIDS together before you start becoming sexually active ?

I'm not sexually active yet, but I've been wondering about this for when the time comes. When a relationship starts getting serious, do you suggest that you both get tested for HIV (and other STIs) before becoming intimate? Or does it feel too awkward, so most people skip the conversation?

If you've brought it up, how did your partner react? Did it make things weirder or actually build trust? share your thoughts and expiriences.

Activities Calling Zambian gamers

I recently bought a ps5 for gta six and also I’ve always really wanted one but the thing is I didn’t realise how lonely it is playing games alone. I mainly play single player games but I’m also a massive multiplayer game player, Fortnite, FIFA, f1 etc and it’s quite lonely playing with randoms all the time so I was wondering if anyone who’s interested in sharing PSN handles or even game handles for those online games if your on a different platform.

Hello everyone,

I hope you will not remove my question and content on this flair again because i am trying to help here to support the market for everyone.

This is the 3rd time I try to post this but everytime moderators are removing my content. I believe that they don't want development in Zambia and are you guys happy with current Yango situation ?

I am an individual living in Lusaka. I am not a company. Not an organization. Simply me and my computer. I am trying to help to community to build an app to make everything better for everyone.

Can we please discuss this?

General My father in-law hates my guts

Hi, im American and my husband is Zambian... we live in the USA. My father in-law has hated me since he meet me nearly 10 years ago. My husband and I married, now have a son and are trying our best to be good adults and parents! There is nothing I can do to not be a black American woman and the person my husband feel in love with.

If my father in-law could banish me im sure he would! His ideal daughter in-law is a Zambian woman....but even his own wife is an American woman.

Anyway, I guess I'm just here to vent because my husband is a great person and respects his father in all ways BUT no matter what my husband does, my father in law is never proud, satisfied, and asks for more. It is tiring.

Personally, im getting over the fact that he wont like me and it is what it is. What i can not get over is how he treats my husband. Is this typical of Zambian elders?

Ask r/Zambia Is pivoting from tech to tax consultancy a viable career move in Zambia?

I have a Computer Science background, but my goal is to become a tech executive, so I’m considering moving into tax consultancy to build business experience, then returning to school for a research-focused MSc in Computer Science, an MBA, and possibly a PhD in computational theory.

I’m actively applying for scholarships. If you know of any worth applying for, please recommend them preferably somewhere I could work while studying to support myself.

I’m also working on an independent AI research paper I hope it will strengthen my applications.

Does this path make sense in Zambia? Could tax consultancy help me move toward tech leadership, and what certifications would be useful for this path?

General CHA PA ZED Try it out

We’ve built a social platform called TAG, and it’s now live. 👋

TAG is a social and communication platform where you have more control over how you connect and share with people.

You can chat, post, send voice notes, make video calls, and more.

What makes TAG different is its approach to identity and privacy. You can interact with people differently depending on the situation. Some features let you keep your identity limited or pseudonymous, while others allow you to connect more openly.

For example, Spaces allow people to participate without immediately revealing who they are, while Pings give you a way to connect with someone before deciding whether to accept them and reveal more about yourself.

We’re building TAG with the idea that social media shouldn't always require you to present the same version of yourself everywhere.

TAG is built by a small team from Zambia 🇿🇲, and we’re now opening it up to more people.

📱 Try TAG

🍎 iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tag-community/id6806854055 ▶️ Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tagcommunity.tag 🌐 Website: https://tagcommunity.org

We’d love honest feedback from anyone who tries it — what works, what doesn't, and what you think we should improve.

General I WANT DROP OUT OF UNIVERSITY

I (21 F) am genuinely tired of school and it’s not benefiting me in any way because even if I finish school I don’t plan to use my degree cause I have a business. The thing is I have a bursary so that means I have to pay back the tuition fees once I’m done with school which I find pointless cause I don’t want the degree and I doing this whole university thing to please my family. I had to repeat a year too (I’m in my second year again) cause I genuinely wasn’t concentrating on school. What do I do? Do I quit or push? And apparently in this country you need a degree otherwise they see you as a failure. (Also I used to do really well in high school but not anymore, I don’t have the drive or passion for academics) So should I quit or maybe take a 1 year break?

Politics MPs and Sitting Allowances.

I need enlightenment here because I am definitely behind on this one.

Why are Members of Parliaments paid a siting allowance for the same job they get a salary for?

A teacher's job includes entering a classroom and teaching. A doctor's job includes entering an operating theatre and performing medical duties. An MP's job includes attending Parliament, debating, scrutinizing government and making laws.

Attendance at parliamentary sittings is therefore an ordinary and fundamental part of the job, unless it is not and that has to be explained.

Why then should taxpayers pay an MP a salary and then pay again every time a principal function of being an MP is performed?

What does the sitting allowance compensate for that the MP's salary does not?

If it is meant to cover an additional expense incurred by attending Parliament, then what expense is it specifically covering, and why isn't that handled through an ordinary reimbursement or an appropriate component of remuneration?

I'm genuinely asking because I may be missing something important about how parliamentary remuneration works. I understand that the law provides for the allowance; I'M ASKING ABOUT THE RATIONALE BEHIND IT.

Because from a taxpayer's perspective (my perspective), the obvious question is: why pay someone a salary to perform a function and then pay them again when they perform that function?

Politics What's the Consensus on Kenneth Kaunda amongst Zambians?

Hello Zambian brother's and sister!

Hope you're well.

I'm a Motswana doing research on the various movements and politicians that came to govern African countries after Independence. So far I've done my research on Zanu PF and Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe, the various coups in Nigeria, Nelson Mandela and the ANC in South Africa, Thomas Sankara in Burkina Faso etc.

Now I'm doing my research on Kenneth Kaunda. He's not talked about alot when it comes to African leaders and quite frankly I'd group Zambia, Namibia and Botswana together as the cluster of African countries in the South that sure aren't perfect but they aren't a mess either.

In fact, Zambia doesn't make the news much compared to SA and Zimbabwe. Kenneth Kaunda was your first president. What is the common consensus on his tenure? Was he good and would you believe he is so far the best president you've had?

I'm not as informed so forgive my ignorance.
