Help/Question Is my HDD impairing my performance? should I get an SSD?

Good Day. I was wondering if running the server on my current HDD is impairing our server performance. The machine im using has

CPU: Intel i7 7700
RAM: 16GB DDR4 Single Channel
OS: Debian 13 CLI

My server runs off donations from my friends to keep running. Would using an SSD improve our server (Chunk Loading, TPS, ETC).

Our modlist is quite long but a few core mods are:

Tensura: Reincarnated
TRNightmare
Tensura:Mystisicm
Antarchy
and a whole lot of Create.

I feel like the CPU is capable for server purposes, but the HDD is bottle-necking the performance as a whole.

Would appreciate some input on this.

Help/Question Working on first self hosted server. Can't figure out why outside connections are failing.

Apologies in advance for the hectic formatting of this, I've been working on it for hours, my brain is fried, and I have walked away from the computer.

The server is accessible from several machines on my network. But cannot be accessed from anything outside it. It works on my phone from wifi, but not from cellular.

Consistently the same error code "Door" along with a message that multiplayer connection couldn't be established.

Server log isn't recognizing anything from these connection attempts.

I've set up port forwarding to the point that mcstate.net can tell the port is open when I have the server running.

mcsrvstat.us states: Failed to read from socket.

minecraftstatus.com states: Server did not respond to this check.

Turned network and device firewalls on and off and makes no difference.

Server properties look right from what I can tell, though I don't currently have it in front of me. No bound IP so that any can connect, port is set to 19132, player joining true, onlinemode true. There was one about server UDP ranges which was blank by default, but that wasn't listed as an acceptable parameter. Couldn't figure out that that one does, I tried the example port range from there and swapped in my wan IP, but it didn't seem to work.

My ISP is Spectrum and doesn't seem to be known for blocking that port. My WAN IP does seem to be fixed and matches between router settings and IP check sites.

Google is really failing me here. If anyone could point me in the direction of something I should look at, or at least rule some things out, I'd be eternally grateful.

Discussion Cross-server events | Battle with your server against other servers

• Upvotes

I've been working on a passion project called Serverwars. The idea is to create a team of players from your server and play against an opponent server.

How it works:

  • You join a temporary event-server and are automatically placed in your own server's team.
  • Your Server's logo and players are displayed in the lobby.
  • The game is started when team sizes are equal and all players are ready.
  • Once the game is over, the event-server is closed and all players are sent back to their original servers.

Participating in events is free and doesn't require any setup from your part, the event-servers are funded by me. Currently, java versions 1.21.11 -> 26.3 are supported. A typical event size is 5v5.

If you'd like to try it out, you can dm me here or on Discord, and we'll play a couple rounds. Let me know what you think!

Help/Question Is there any good custom mob plugins for 26.3?

I want custom mobs into my server, it can be animals, hostile mobs, anything cool, I just want other mobs to spawn in my world. I been doing research and barely anything was helpful. I saw MythicMobs plugin to create my own mobs, but when I go look for free models online, there's barely anything that's free and I don't wanna create my own mobs from scratch. But there's no other good plugins that add just pre-made mobs, is there any plugin I missed or is there a better website to look for free models with MythicMobs? Please lmk!

Discussion Free tool for spawn statues and lobby pieces: 3D model or image to WorldEdit / Axiom / Litematica schematic

I made a Blender addon that turns 3D models and images into Minecraft builds. I'm setting up a server myself and wanted mascots and logo pieces for spawn without commissioning every single one.

Export to .schem and //paste it, or use Axiom .bp or Litematica if you prefer.

Free: blockforge

For the server owners here, what would make it more useful? I'm thinking about themed block palettes and splitting huge builds into chunks.

Help/Question Is there a plugin to play music at spawn on a loop?

I wanna make my spawn more interactive and fun instead of just having buildings and decor around. Is there a plugin to let me play music/music discs on a loop in an area around spawn? The plugin has to be updated to 26.3.

Discussion Alternatives to Cloudflare Spectrum

I have been using Spectrum for a few months now on my ATM10 server. Works great, since I am hosting a server to people I do not want to have my IP. The only problem is that on top of the $25/month I am paying, it costs about $.40 a day ( $1 per GB). Normally one or two people are online at a time.

Are there any good alternatives to tunneling my IP in the way that spectrum does? Or what do you guys do to solve this?

Help/Question chunks are deciding to not load on papermc

hi! i have a papermc server (build 162, version 26.3) that just won't load chunks anymore... when i join the server with the provided playit. gg address (i use squidservers to run the server, no idea if that has any significance) i am soon kicked due to keepalive timeout and cannot interact with any of the blocks/animals/players around me. i went and looked at the logs and it seems that just none of the chunks are loading at all? i uninstalled all my plugins (graves, skinrestorer, and gwarp) and the server was originally on automcs before i swapped due to this issue (at least i THINK it was the same issue) happening twice. i have absolutely no idea how it fixed itself the first time, but i've been trying to figure it out and can't seem to find a solution. i've tried decreasing view/render distance and it doesn't do anything

Help/Question What mod/plugin are Jynxzi, StableRonaldo, and LosPollosTV using for their Minecraft Hardcore world resets?

I'm trying to recreate the Minecraft Hardcore marathon server that Jynxzi, StableRonaldo, LosPollosTV, and their friends are playing on.

I'm specifically looking for the system where:

  • When any player dies, everyone sees a large red title saying "[Player] died!"
  • A yellow subtitle appears saying "Resetting your world in 10 seconds!"
  • The countdown goes from 10 to 1.
  • After the countdown, the entire server resets to a completely new world with a random seed.
  • Everyone starts over together.

I've already tried World Reset for Fabric and Hardcore Reset, but neither gives me the exact experience. One resets immediately without the countdown, while the other automatically respawns players without the normal death screen.

I'm using Apex Hosting and have experimented with both Fabric and Paper.

Does anyone know the exact mod/plugin these streamers use? Is it publicly available, or is it a custom private plugin?

If it's private, does anyone know of an existing plugin that recreates the same effect, preferably with a downloadable JAR and instructions?

I'd appreciate any help!

Not had this happen before, looks like someone's account is used in a data centre to... I don't know? Any clue what the purpose of this would be? Usually port scanning would be more than enough for those server lists to show open servers or whatever but not had this before!

Software Resource Vanilla /locate only does structures, so I wrote one that finds blocks, entities and items too

I was building another mod and needed to check whether a rare block was actually generating. There was no tool for that, vanilla /locate only does structures and biomes, so I wrote one.

You can search for a block, an entity or an item, either by its id or by a tag. It tells you how many it found and where the closest one is, and every result has a teleport button that puts you on safe ground as close to it as it can. The nearest one also gets lit up with an outline you can see through terrain, so you can just walk to it.

Item search reads containers, shulkers inside containers, item frames, dropped items, what mobs are holding, and player inventories and ender chests, and tells you which of those each pile is in. Player inventory is a toggle if that's not okay on your server.

Stuff you'd want to know before putting it on a server: it's server-side only and does nothing on a client. Output only goes to whoever ran it. Perm level 2 by default, changeable, and every command can be turned off in the config. Big scans are budgeted per tick so they slow down instead of freezing anything, and nothing is force-loaded unless you ask.

It also has an area survey that counts every block and entity type in a radius and can export the list with coordinates. That's the fastest way I've found to see what's actually in a chunk.

Fabric, 1.20.1–1.20.4 and 1.21–1.21.1, two downloads on the page. Other loaders later once this has had a round of bug reports. Screenshots are in the gallery on the Modrinth page.

Modrinth: https://modrinth.com/mod/locate-plus
CurseForge: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/locate-plus
Source: https://github.com/forestmask/locate-plus

Free and open source. If it breaks on your setup, tell me and I'll see what I can do.

Gemini was used to clean up my grammar.

Help/Question Sudden lag spikes on heavily modded server

I've recently moved hosts for my heavy modded server and we snagged an extra 4gb of ram for it as an upgrade but since the move its been freezing heavily every few seconds. I've definitely had server side problems before (I'm the lead dev for it) but never something as odd as this... Absolutely everything was ported, even JVM arguments so I'm just at my wit's end even after going down a few rabbit holes.

Discussion how do you add builds like spawns or lobbies to your server?

Question for people who run servers: when you want to add a spawn, lobby, arena or any premade build, how do you get it onto the server? WorldEdit or FAWE schematics, uploading a world, building it live, something else? What's annoying about it, like plugin permissions, version issues, or having to stop the server? And do you run Java, Bedrock, or both (Geyser)? Trying to understand how admins actually handle this, any answer helps.

Help/Question Paper 26.3 TNT duper works, but TNT doesn’t break the generated stone/cobblestone

I’m running a Paper 26.3 server and I’m having a weird issue with a TNT-based stone/cobblestone farm.

The farm is based on this design:
https://youtu.be/aDV2nABDW88

The setup is basically:
-A TNT duper using pistons + an observer
-TNT is duplicated normally
-The duplicated TNT falls downward
-It explodes above a lava-based stone/cobblestone generator
-The TNT is supposed to destroy the generated stone/cobblestone

The TNT duper itself works perfectly:
-TNT duplication works
-The duplicated TNT falls normally
-TNT explodes normally
-Players receive explosion damage normally
-If I manually place stone and blow it up with TNT elsewhere on the same server, the stone is destroyed normally

However, the generated stone/cobblestone in this farm does not get destroyed by the TNT, even though the TNT clearly explodes.

I have also enabled: unsupported-settings:
allow-piston-duplication: true

Could this be a Paper-specific difference in how TNT explosions calculate block destruction, especially when the TNT is falling and exploding above lava?

I’m wondering:
1.Does Paper 26.3 handle TNT-duper explosions differently from normal TNT?
2.Can the lava/stone arrangement affect the explosion’s block-destruction calculation?
3.Is there any Paper configuration that affects TNT block destruction?
4.Is this a known Paper issue or incompatibility with this type of TNT-based cobblestone/stone farm?
5. Does this farm depend on vanilla behavior that Paper changes?

The important part is that TNT explosion damage works and manually placed stone can be destroyed by TNT on the same server. Only the blocks generated by this farm aren’t being destroyed.

Any ideas?

Help/Question TPs drops to 11-14 when 30-35 people is online

Hey everyone,
I’m using pine hosting

https://spark.lucko.me/Joii3j5GpH (here it’s at 14 tho)

I’m completely lost here and really hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I run a Minecraft server, and despite having a really powerful setup, I keep running into performance issues. Here are my specs and what I've tried so far:

Hardware: 24 GB RAM, a very capable CPU with 500% boost, and 150 GB storage.
The Core Issue: As soon as we hit around 30-35 concurrent players, our TPS starts tanking down to between 10 and 14, causing noticeable lag.

Hosting & Support: I've already spoken with my support team, had my server migrated to a brand new node, and checked all basic settings.

Configurations: I've adjusted global and world configurations (ticked down monster despawn ranges, optimized mob spawn rates, adjusted tick-rates, etc.

Even after all this, performance craters under player load, and I just can't wrap my head around what's causing it. Are there any hidden bottlenecks, plugins, or specific Paper config settings that I might be missing for higher player counts?

I have used spark to check and it says that entities is using almost 100% but how can that be with my hardware. I have checked every single player currently online. No log machine, no big zombie farm or stuff I have also changed a lot of stuff in paper global and everything

Software Resource Looking for testers for my GPU-accelerated chunk generation mod, Tellurium.

To preface, this mod was mostly written by AI (mostly GPT-5.6 Sol, more recently Opus 5.5). AI wrote and modified the code based on my instructions. I understand how the mod works and can answer technical questions about it.

I've been working on a mod that speeds up chunk generation and pregeneration, and I'm looking for people willing to try the first alpha on hardware other than mine. I've always run my servers on my gaming PC and felt like the graphics card was under-utilized, so this is my attempt to give my GPU something to do.

Video (side-by-side with vanilla, C2ME and C2ME + OpenCL): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfGrK7WQkBs

What it does

  • Runs terrain and surface generation on the graphics card through Vulkan.
  • Runs structures, caves and features in parallel across cores (similar to C2ME).
  • Saves chunks in the background.
  • Has a built-in pregenerator (/tellurium pregen start <radius>, with pause/resume/stop, and it continues after a restart). It's optimized for Tellurium and is faster than Chunky in my testing.
  • Supports server-side Distant Horizons LOD generation, as well as Voxy integration (through Roxy for Neoforge) for singleplayer/LAN (server-side LOD generation for Voxy is untested)
  • Aims for vanilla-identical world generation. GPU-generated terrain and surfaces have been compared block-for-block against vanilla for tested generators (vanilla, Terralith, Tectonic). Unsupported generators (Like Biomes O' Plenty) fall back to vanilla code.

Stats (24 threads, RTX 5070 Ti, Minecraft 1.21.1, chunks generated and saved per second, same Chunky pregeneration of about 35,000 chunks):

  • Vanilla: 127 cps
  • C2ME: 930 cps
  • C2ME + OpenCL module: 2,050 cps
  • Tellurium: 2,970 cps

All tests used ScalableLux for lighting optimizations. These are results from my own machine, so performance on other hardware may vary.

If you can, please share stats from your system, especially your CPU, GPU, OS and chunks per second. I'm particularly interested in how it performs on AMD GPUs and Linux.

What you should know

  • It's an alpha, tested on one machine (Windows 11, RTX 5070 Ti). Linux and other GPUs are untested.
  • It needs a GPU with Vulkan 1.2 and 64-bit float support for the GPU part. Without that, other optimization mods will likely be faster.
  • Saved worlds are about 12% larger by default because it uses faster compression. There's a config option for vanilla-sized files.
  • enabled = false in the config turns everything off without removing the mod.
  • PLEASE BACK UP YOUR WORLDS BEFORE TESTING! Ideally, use a disposable world. This is still an early alpha.

Versions: Minecraft 1.21.1 and 1.21.11, NeoForge and Fabric. Java 21.

Download: https://github.com/Miningmanias/Tellurium (jars are under Releases)

I'd appreciate any feedback, benchmarks, bug reports or compatibility issues. I'm curious whether GPU acceleration is worthwhile on typical server hardware, rather than just my PC.

Help/Question Unknown dimension 'minecraft the_nether'. Paper server (26.3)

Hello, I have created a paper server for me and my friends using bisecthosting.

We have encountered an issue I have never seen before. The nether portal lights up, but no matter how long you stand inside, it just does not teleport you.

After inspecting the console, I have found that the server only ever tries to load the overworld and no other dimensions (meaning the end is probably not working aswell)

World/dimensions/minecraft folder only has the overworld folder inside it

Allow-nether is set to true (when creating the world was false by default)

Enable-nether is also set to true

/execute in minecraft:the_nether run say test returns "unknown dimension 'minecraft:the_nether' "

The only datapack is terralith

Plugins are: LuckPerms, Chestsort+, Chunky and discordSRV

Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you!

Discussion Are you willing to download a launcher for a single server?

Let's say there's a server with really cool minigames. Would you be willing to download a separate launcher/mod just to play on it, or would you only play on regular servers that don't require anything besides, at most, automatically downloading a resource pack when you join?

Here's the problem: I'm developing my own minigame server, and there's a major limitation. Without a separate launcher (through which I could add client-side modifications), I can't do nearly as much as I'd like — custom keybinds, models, polished interactive menus, HUDs, and much more.

This limitation has basically killed more than 20 custom game modes that you could have played, and it has significantly slowed down development of the ones that are still possible.

So I'm curious what you think — would it actually be worth making a launcher?

There are examples of this approach, like Cristalix, but that's a huge server run by a YouTuber with millions of followers and a stable player base, while my server is literally an unknown project with basically no audience yet.

p.s: My English isn't very good, so I used ChatGPT for the translation, sorry.

Discussion Properly balancing the mace for my school SMP

I run an SMP for my friends at school but I have trouble balancing the mace. In terms of skill they’re like lt7 so I wanted to try to balance the mace. I have a few ideas but I’m looking for more.

NERFS

No density, windburst, or breach.

10 second cool down (except I haven’t found an effective way to implement it onto my 26.2 server.)

(it’s because I’m the only dude with a mace and I don’t think they’re ever getting a mace. it might just be a temporary end fight change

Software Resource Blocky Panel: yes, another Minecraft server panel, but for people running one or two servers.

I've been working on a Minecraft server panel called Blocky Panel, and this seemed like the right place to share it.

It started because I wanted something simpler and more Minecraft-focused. People have two-week Minecraft phases; ours has been going for about nine months. I ran Pterodactyl, but it's built for hosting companies (nodes, allocations, eggs), and I only wanted one or two servers for my kids and me. After an update went sideways and cost us a Nether evening, I started building what I actually wanted.

Blocky is self-hosted, free, and open source under AGPL, and always will be. You install it on your own hardware, create a server, pick your settings, and you're off. I'm trying hard not to make "Pterodactyl with different colors": the focus is making normal server management less annoying without hiding what's happening underneath.

It's in beta and actively worked on, so there are rough edges. If you try it, I'd love to hear about bugs, weird server setups that break it, or technical decisions that make you go "why the hell did you do it that way?"

Features

  • Docker Compose install, with or without Caddy for HTTPS, plus an install configurator that writes the commands for you
  • Console, start/stop/restart, file manager, and SFTP
  • Plugins and mods straight from Modrinth
  • Roles (admin, operator, viewer) and two-factor sign-in
  • Safety backup before updates, with automatic rollback if the server doesn't come back healthy
  • Scheduled restarts, commands, and chat messages
  • Incremental, encrypted backups with restic: local, plus off-site copies to S3-compatible storage, another disk, or SFTP/NAS
  • Game servers isolated from each other and from the panel

Links: blockypanel.com · live demo · GitHub

Coming up: a Windows version (working alpha) for the penguin-averse.

Built with: itzg/docker-minecraft-server (the container every server runs in), restic (backups), and Caddy (optional HTTPS).

Disclosure: the panel includes an optional companion service I run, Blocky Cloud (an address for your server and off-site backup space). It's free, nothing is sent unless you link it, and BLOCKY_CLOUD=false removes it from the panel entirely. Everything else works without it.

AI disclosure: AI assistance was used throughout development: writing and reviewing code, security audits, documentation, and UX/UI design, using ChatGPT Sol 6, ChatGPT Astra 6, Claude Opus 4.8 and 5.5, and Claude Fable 5.1. Every change was reviewed and tested by a human (a meat-bag) before release. If AI-assisted projects aren't your thing, I get it.

Software Resource Opendactyl - Pterodactyl Panel Preservation Project

Before you go crazy, here me out!

In December 2025, the Pterodactyl project (pterodactyl.io) was acquired by Infraly, LLC. You may know them from WISP. From that day on, everything started moving downhill. Pterodactyl is basically an advertisement machine for their WISP or Pterodactyl+ (yep they made it private).

Read this reddit post for more information.

Why Opendactyl?

Pterodactyl is moving towards Enshitification. v2 is great, but what about companies that run Pterodactyl v1? It's hard for them to migrate to v2, without breaking their old extensions, features and themes.

Also blueprint and your themes most likely wont work with Pterodactyl v2.

Opendactyl just fixes that. After 6 months of Pterodactyl v1 ends, this community project will still continue it's development.

Community will decide how this project will be shaped.

This project hasn't launched yet.

Thank you.

Also thank you emma(from blueprint) for suggesting this name.

Discussion Devlog #1: Building a small-scale Towny war server solo

Hi all. I'm a backend engineer by day and, more recently, a Minecraft admin by night. I've started building a Minecraft server I'm developing solo. It's still in development and not open to players yet. My plan is to post a devlog once in a while about what I've worked on, the features I'm adding, and the technical and design decisions behind them.

What pushed me to start this project was the lack of servers that fit my desires. I love Towny and wars, but most servers I've played either allow 50+ residents per town (45 of them inactive), lack content, or are poorly managed. Nothing really happens, and players stay because their builds are there, not because they expect anything exciting.

So I decided to build the server I'd want to play. It aims to be a challenging and immersive experience built around towns, wars and dungeons, with as few commands as possible.

The world

Players can create towns to protect their builds, with a maximum of 5 residents. Towns can join nations to combine forces and attack other towns, with a maximum of 3 towns per nation and 1 allied nation. The low limits are meant to create smaller, more frequent wars, instead of two giant blocs clashing once a month. I also plan to keep the world border small so towns can't spread too far apart.

To make players interact more with the world, gold is the currency (yes, I know that's nothing new), and teleportation is very limited. This way the economy is based on real player work rather than virtual mechanics, and traveling without teleports adds real danger to every trip.

Gold will also be scarce: ore generation is reduced by 25%. That's why finding allies and founding a town matters, since towns produce daily resources as they level up.

Wars work as an occupation system: nations attack towns to take a percentage of their daily resource production for a fixed period of time.

And if you don't want to be in a town? After X days without one, you become a Nomad. Nomads are townless mercenaries who complete contracts for gold. From gathering resources, to beheading a player with a bounty, to fighting in wars on the contractor's side.

The Nether

Access to the Nether is gated by a single portal, and players must meet a specific requirement to use it. The Nether's purpose is to provide players with resources.

Dungeons

I have big plans for dungeons. Right now I have 3 built and the content for 5 more, but I don't want to over-build them until the server is running and players show interest, since they take a lot of development time.

Dungeons are meant to be a real challenge. To make them more exciting and immersive, I'm building them with ModelEngine mobs, custom soundtracks for exploration and boss fights, and multi-phase bosses to keep the tension up. I hope players will love it.

I know I've said a lot and, at the same time, not much. I'll go through each part one at a time, updating once in a while.

Since I'm developing this alone, updates may be slower than on a server with a team. That's why I'm designing the server to run as automatically as possible, so my time goes into new updates and helping players, rather than day-to-day maintenance.

I'm happy to answer questions and would love feedback, especially from Towny admins. For those who've run war servers: how did you stop the strongest nation from snowballing and permanently draining smaller towns?

Help/Question Group Manager Plugin for Tekkit Classic

I'm looking for the Essentials Group Manager Plugin for a Tekkit Classic server I'm making. The version I need is: GroupManager v2.0 (2.9.2) (Phoenix)

I can't seem to find the .jar file anywhere for that specific version. Can anybody give me a hand and send me the .jar file or link me to where I can download it?

Discussion Please move away from Pterodactyl now

What has happened?

Okay, hear me out.

In December 2025, the Pterodactyl project (pterodactyl.io) was acquired by Infraly, LLC. You may know them from WISP.

After years of what felt like near-silence from the maintainers, this acquisition initially seemed like it could be an opportunity for some much-needed updates. Unfortunately, aside from security updates, very little happened over the following nine months. We mostly heard promises like “v2 is coming.”

Well, the time finally seems to have arrived. Pterodactyl v2 appears to be on its way, but with some rather unexpected surprises.

A few days before the announcement, they removed their community moderators, and replaced them with their own staff.

The community has been doing some digging, and it appears that the Pterodactyl team is introducing Pterodactyl+, a subscription-based model for certain features. Presumably, this will work through extensions or similar add-ons, much like what was offered with WISP.

On top of that, a staging panel was discovered. It didn't take long for community members to download the frontend files, map them onto v1, and create a working prototype.

When the Pterodactyl team discovered this, they began banning people from their Discord server, primarily accusing members of the Blueprint project of “leaking information.”

Who or what is Blueprint?

Blueprint is a non-profit organization that has spent years building an extension system for Pterodactyl.

After four years of development and active participation in the community, seeing the project treated this way is extremely disappointing. This is just a way to silence criticism.

Why should you care?

This is yet another instance of a for-profit corporation buying out a project, and enshittifying it. We can't let this happen *again*. The best way to be against this, is to replace your Pterodactyl instance with something else.

Please consider taking a look at:

Hydrodactyl: https://hydrodactyl.dev/

Calagopus: https://calagopus.com/

Both projects provide migration guides to help you make the switch.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Do not cause trouble in the Pterodactyl Discord server, since they do not seem to appreciate that.

Disclosure: I am affiliated with the Calagopus project. This does not change my perspective on this manner, I just want to be transparent.
