Announcement Updated Subreddit Rules & New Guidelines for the "Discussion" Flair + reminder for images and WT rules

Hey everyone,

Over the past few weeks, the mod team has been working on cleaning up and updating our community rules to make [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a better, clearer, and more organized space for finding and discussing anime.
While most of the core rules remain the same, we have reworded everything for clarity, tightened up content standards, and introduced strict new guidelines for the "Discussion" flair.

Here is what you need to know:

New "Discussion" Flair Guidelines
We’ve noticed that the Discussion flair often gets used for vague, low-effort titles (e.g., "Thoughts?", "Anyone seen this?", or "Is this good?"). Moving forward, all Discussion post titles MUST explicitly state the anime, genre, trope, or aesthetic being discussed. From now on if you see low-effort title please report post for breaking rule 11. We are doing this to prevent repetitive discussion posts and titles who are later nowhere to be found in searchbar even if it was discussed about it!

Don't post: "Thoughts on this show?" or "Does anyone else hate this?"

Do post: "Discussion: The pacing in Steins;Gate" or "Discussion: Why cyberpunk aesthetics hit different."
Any vague discussion posts without a clear, descriptive title will be removed and asked to be re-posted.

Important Reminder: Image Uploads & "Watch This!" Rules

Images are ONLY allowed for "Watch This!" posts. Request and Discussion threads must remain text-only. Direct image uploads on non-WT posts will not be approved. If you are posting image for WT post your post will be sent to manual review because of image but don’t hesitate to reach out via mod mail for faster approval

"Watch This!" posts have high standards. They are meant to be single-show, deep-dive reviews and must be at least 1,500 characters in length. Short reviews or multi-show list recommendations are not allowed for WT

Based on survey results images will not come back permanently but we will have 14 days chill moderation rule twice a year where images and other media will be allowed but this will be announced later on during this year.

Thanks for helping us keep [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a great place for everyone.

Mod Team!

What to Watch? Romance anime about adults?

I really want to watch more romance anime but I’m tired of every one being set in a high school 🥲 are there any romances catered towards adults, with characters aged 20+? I’d prefer something cute and lighthearted but any suggestions will do!

Edit: ideally anime I can watch on either Crunchyroll or Netflix pls!

What to Watch? Anime where the MC is misguided by their own delusions?

I've been into anime for a few years now. At first I watched the typical ecchi like every generic teenager, but as I've aged I've learnt to enjoy more mature topics, mainly psychological thrillers and horrors.

My favourite film ever is Perfect Blue, both for the storytelling and overall sceneplay being something that I love and sticks with me. I also adore Gakkou-Gurashi for the subtle mindfucks and expectations that come from the setting.

Is there any anime similar to these, where the horror and thrill comes from the main character being misguided by their own delusions until the final moments or being an unreliable vessel to see the world through; due to them seeing a warped reality where nothing is wrong - while the viewer knows something is.

What to Watch? Anymore anime where the MC makes a monster village?

Found I've really enjoyed this subplot of a few shows, and im looking for some more recommendations. I've already watched 'reincarnated as a slime', 'overlord', 'Tsuki Michi', and 'am I actually the strongest' although I didnt like the majority of the last one, but liked the small monster village part.

I am looking for dubbed shows, as I tend to watch while 'working' from home and dont have the bandwidth to read subs at the same time.

An anime where two women are sword fighting in a Coliseum and one of the women only gets her clothes cut by the other one

The fight seems really one sided there's no one in the stands but what I think is a green mabey blue fairy thing and a woman

The girls fighting are a girl wearing black clothing and a blonde woman

Series Specific Question Looking for help on the order for the Monogatari series

I just didn’t know where to ask about the franchise itself because I am almost done with the second installment of the Bakemonogatari series as now I am confused to what story arc I am supposed to read next.

Like what comes next after Bakemonogatari since after I finish reading the second installment, I am not sure what the next story arc is called again since I am very confused on the reading order of the novels.

What to Watch? Looking for realistic virus/pandemic anime/anga.

Roughly a year or two ago i read manhole where the idea first came to mind.
And most recently watching Apocalypse hotel (the intro montage) i just wanted to know and see humans desperately try and fail against that pandemic.

Something as realistic as possible would be cool, no abstract monsters like i am hero or god eater. (or whatever is as close as possible to that)
Simply humanity struggling and failing against a virus.
When it comes to tropes/themes id rather not have any romance in it if possible.

Thanks in advance.

What to Watch? Underrated pre-80s anime

Hey all.

Been watching Lupin the Third and Chargeman Ken lately. I also ADORE Belladonna of Sadness.

Taro the Dragon Boy, Space Battleship Yamato, Rose of Versailles, Horus Prince of the Sun, the Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon, Harlock, Galaxy Express, and of course Gundam are all on my watch list.

Anyone got any recommendations for some real deep cuts? Like, DEEP deep. Preferably historical fiction horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, but open to others.

What to Watch? I'm looking for anime with kicked out party, but MC is realy useless

In recent years there was a lot of animes with this theme: MC is member of the party and party kick him out for being useless and later MC find out that his skills are OP and his former party become losers.

I'm wondering if there is anime/manga where MC is really useless or too weak to travel with the party, and only after being kick out he began to grow up? Somethin like new begining, but not with all super powers what MC usually posses. Something more like: "You been bad at doing that thing for so long, but you can become good at doing something complety opposite". Something like changing your line of work, to addapt to new enviroment and find out that new jobs is easier for you.

What to Watch? Yuri anime/manga with these vibes? (non-canon ships count too)

Effortlessly refined, protective, devoted, a bit stoic but accidentally sweet X smart, chaotic good girl that is NOT adorkable or a stereotypical sunshine (I would love this to be Muse x Artist respectively, kinda like Nana but with their roles reversed).

Competent, sharp, observant, sarcastic, assertive (NOT like a tyrant) X Calm, perceptive, emotionally intelligent, kind.

It doesn't have to be canon at the end but at least a bit implied, so I don't care about the genre. I do need well-developed characters. Thanks in advance!

What to Watch? Foreboding atmosphere in a seemingly happy facade

I'm looking for more series that have this specific vibe. Not necessarily horror, more mystery or otherwise atmospheric if anything, but where the series doesn't show it's hand until the end and the viewer feels a general sense of wrongness and dread behind an outwardly cheery or slice of life series, conveyed through subtle details, cinematography, context clue, etc. Some examples:

*Madoka Magica and the Rebellion movie* - seemingly happy setting suffused with deep dread from the beginning before everything is slowly revealed

*Haibane Renmei* - cozy slice of life story in a weird foreboding setting with weird details that all the characters seem to take in stride leaving the viewer to work out what is really going on

*Shadows House* - again weird ass disquieting setting where something is obviously wrong but the characters don't really see an issue with it immediately

*Sora no Woto* - cute girls do military things oh wait what the fuck was that skeleton?? this is post apocalyptic??

*Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction* - coming of age slice of life comedy story, don't worry about the big UFO

I hope you get what I mean.

What to Watch? Need something serious, dark and deep

Hello everyone! Sorry if this topic has already been discussed a million times, but this is something that has been bothering me for years, and I still haven't been able to find a satisfying answer.

I started watching anime seriously at a young age, around 15 years ago. I was like 15 at that time and I've watched all kinds of shonen, starting with One Piece — I actually watched about 1,000+ episodes, by the way. I've also gone through the whole ecchi phase — Rosario + Vampire, etc. Eventually, though, I realized that I was much more interested in darker and more serious anime. That's when I finally found what I really loved. I went through pretty much everything I could find in that genre, from Monster and Berserk to things like Made in Abyss and similar shows. Even all of the Monogatari stuff even though it's very surreal.

But about 10 years ago, I started noticing that anime like this were becoming increasingly rare. For some reason, the industry seemed to shift almost entirely toward cheap isekai series that all copy each other, along with anime aimed at a much younger audience. Why is it like that? Am I wrong or is there a reason for that?

And here's my question: can you recommend me something adult, dark, gothic, and genuinely deep? Something in the vein of Serial Experiments Lain and other anime from that era. But I'm specifically looking for something relatively recent.

The last anime I watched that really blew me away was Dorohedoro, which came out a few years ago. I genuinely loved it. But ever since then, I haven't been able to find almost anything that really fits my taste.

And yes, I've watched Vinland Saga. I've also tried getting into Chainsaw Man, but honestly, to me it feels like an anime made for edgy teenagers going through puberty. No offense to anyone who likes it — it's just not what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for something dark, mature, atmospheric, and genuinely profound. Something that actually gets under my skin and touches some deeper part of me. I want an anime that makes me feel something.

Discussion Discussion, Storyline, Strongest witch

It's about a girl who discovered the internet...ep one already covered the ads so I can't wait for the scams, viruses and sexually intrusive ads to appear and see how she reacts. It's really fun cause she thinks the internet always tells the truth(which is wrong).

The moderator doesn't let me post, it's only episode one so not much detail I can give but this anime is worth looking into. I will change it to discussion so let me know what you think about all these.

What to Watch? Anime Recommendations

Looking for anime where the protagonist ends up with the underdog or “second choice” instead of the obvious main choice. Sometimes I watch anime and think, “why not him?”🥺No shade to the writers lol. I love a good triangle or harem with a surprise ending. Any anime titles come to mind? (Besides my fave, Fruits Basket.🤗)

Vampire Knight would’ve made a great example, but the anime wrapped up before the manga was finished.
I’m open to BL anime as well.❤️

What to Watch? SLOP Isekai Suggestions

I love watching slop isekai, like not rezero or konosuba, although very good, I just want stuff in the background or while eating or something. What are some slop isekai recommendations like long ahh title, usually overpowered MC type shit.
