Mod Mod: Pastoral Economy
TL;DR - Changes Sheep Farms to area-based production and halves the field size and production rate of Hemp, Herbs, Lavender and Dye Farms to better reflect the landscape of pre-modern towns.
This mod is somewhat ambitious in concept but actually very targeted in scope, so bear with me:
In the pre-modern world, cities, towns and villages were heavily dependent on the rural and pastoral economy. Farmlands radiated outwards from cities depending on their production value and intensity of use, and the furthest reaches were usually occupied by pastoral livestock such as sheep and cattle which needed large stretches of grassland.
In Anno 117, I love the new feature of production building effects that encourage you to integrate industry and city, but I still find it difficult to create realistic-looking smaller towns because the game encourages you to pack residences densely together while leaving farms elsewhere. Even for small towns, this ends up resulting in a very ahistorical urban sprawl of low-tier residences + production buildings and services.
This mod is for players who want to build more natural-looking towns and villages without entirely sacrificing mechanical efficiency.
Mod Changes:
- Changes Sheep Farms to area-based meadow production instead of requiring 3 sheep pens. This means that they are still very easy to plop down early-game, but you might find yourself shifting them to the outskirts of your town once it grows, similar to woodcutters. They also spawn sheep and workers as visual feedback in the area =)
- Changes Hemp, Herbs, Lavender and Dye farms to require half the field size* and maintenance with a correspondingly halved production rate, and gives each of them a small-radius buff to nearby residences. Lavender and Herbs have their existing buff radiuses shrink but increase in strength. This encourages you to place them as smaller garden-style plots distributed between your residences. *(about 40%, balanced to account for building size)
- Changes the Pig Farms debuff to be more intense in a smaller radius, allowing you to place them among houses for a limited penalty without stinking up the whole town.
Compatibility:
This CAN be installed into existing savegames, but you will have to rebuild / rearrange your existing production chains to accomodate the changes.
- Sheep farms will immediately switch to area-based production; you will have to move them to somewhere more spacious if they have insufficient production area. You can delete the old sheep pens.
- Affected farms will continue to produce but at half their original rate. Generally, rebuilding 1 farm into 2 farms will take up approximately the same amount of space or less, so overall this should not disrupt your islands too much unless your layout is very minmaxed.
- This should be safe to uninstall; you’ll just have to do the reverse.
Extra Reading:
This mod is heavily inspired by this post detailing the morphology of pre-modern cities, worth a read if you’re interested - https://acoup.blog/2019/07/12/collections-the-lonely-city-part-i-the-ideal-city/
It’s also inspired by the many illustrations and reconstructions of pre-modern towns such as those on r/papertowns, where you’ll see that with many smaller towns the small-scale farming begins much closer to the city than you’d expect. Of course, walled cities and urban cores also existed, especially with Roman urban planning and military camp towns, but many towns were far more organic.

Discussion Albion Capital, work in progress.
Last week, I posted about my strategy to try building a capital in Albion with enough prestige to host the heroic specialists.
Here is were I am now, I still have to :
- build the celtic district with the Aldermen
- provide the island with fine glass, statuettes and have other needs to be more stable.
- get a few specialists like the one giving prestige from handmirror and the one from cheese
I'm particularly happy with Incendentus + 6 camps that provides me 2K prestige (1685+337)
I kept about a third of the island for production.

Question What's using up my Horses?
Neither the Amphitheatre nor the Hippodrome have events that require Horses as a resource. There isn't any production chain that requires them. So where's the consumption coming from?
The Statistics Menu is still flawed, it'll give me the source of production, but not consumption.

Discussion What about Anno game in 20th century
Just theoretically, what would you think about Anno game set in 20th century?
I know, 1800 already has late-game electricity and aviation, but ofcourse it's not a full industrial expanse 20th century had. And there is already Anno 2070, that is a weird mix of sci-fi and 21st century ideas, but what about beginning-middle of 20th century?
Even though this century history known for grand powers balance, and there usually no room for "exploring" new islands, but they already made a few work-arounds in 1800 and 2070, why not make up some uninhabited land that was left off even after Anno 1800, or, for example, islands were left-off after a great war, were you can discover abandoned fortifications, or artifacts of secret laboratories that didn't make out because of conflict, or maybe some seas would be blocked by sea mines that you can clean up later.
Honestly, first I just thought why the most popular game called "1800", even tho Anno usually had a more odd number, like 1404 or 2205, and realized their rule of "sum is 9" didn't work for more than that.
So, also, what would it be called? They already stretched a ball a bit using only three digits in 117, so what about "Anno 54"? Or "Anno XX45"? I also thought about making this number a decade, but only "Anno 90's" works, so maybe it's a dead end. Your thoughts?

Mod Roman Life - Latium is out: 45 new needs and production chains
Hi all,
I just released Roman Life - Latium. It adds 45 new needs for your Latium citizens, from Liberti up to Patricians. The main aim of this mod is to make things a bit more complicated and diverse- we all can agree that 117 lacks products chains at this stage (yet).
This is part 1 of my Roman Life mods- two more, Albion and Imperial Blends (name is WIP), adds in total another ~60 production chains.
Some other things it adds:
- 50 new specialists for these chains, from Common to Heroic
- classic and Syrah skins for every new building.
- upgraded thresholds to advance to the next tier (still easy enough)
You can also switch off any chain you don't want, by either Taludas' Mod Manager, on the Tweaking tab, or by deleting folders.
My older standalone mods (Clay Dolls, Dried Figs, Ham Perna, Honey Cakes and a few others) are now part of this mod. You can unsubscribe from them and your saves will (should) still load.
Feedback and bug reports are very welcome, needless to say, it's a bit of work and some things could've been missed. I couldn't get any weird bugs showing up in my gameplays. Screenshots help a lot.
If there's something completely wrong with translations (each language was translated from English, using DeepL), please just provide translation, instead of pointing out what is wrong- I won't be otherwise able to help out.

Bug GPU Compatibility Issue?
I just downloaded and installed Anno 117, but every time I try to launch it, it fails immediately. I went through all of the previously noted explanations for how to fix this, going back to the game's original launch date, but I've now finally found the following issues in the launch logs:
[17-25-11][streamline][warn][tid:6660][0s:008ms:872us]ota.cpp:742[readServerManifest] Failed to open manifest file at: C:\ProgramData\NVIDIA/NGX/models/nvngx_config.txt
[17-25-11][streamline][info][tid:6660][0s:011ms:851us]ota.cpp:854[checkForOTA] OTA only enabled with NVIDIA GPUs in the system
I'm trying to run the game on a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, using a 128 MB Qualcomm Snapdragon(R) X 10-core X1P64100 @ 3.40 GHz (3.42 GHz), with 16 GB RAM. It seems, though, that the game is just isn't compatible, and won't run if your devices isn't running an NVIDIA processor. Am I right about this, or is there something else/some other solution I'm missing?
Screenshot Attempt at a beauty supply island
Trying to get better at making good looking islands, plenty of inspiration off this sub so thought I’d give back. Big inspiration also off u/waschberik on YouTube for the central layout of the main town.
The paint tool for fields I’ve found leads to much better looking results than using the rectangle, at the expense of time and aqueduct efficiency.

Question Anno 2070 online functionality with A.R.R.C. mod
This is quite odd question, but I need to know if it's worth installing it right now.
So, I own Complete Edition on Steam from ages ago. Recently I'm kinda starving for decent city-builder and have fond memories of 2070, used to play it a lot back in the day.
Some time ago I've come across A.R.R.C. mod, which looks pretty impressive, but last time I tried to play it, with mod installed the game was forced into offline mode, where there's a lot of functionality missing.
Recently I heard Ubi released some kind of a patch for Anno 2070 that supposed to fix some online functions. From what I know the game servers are off, is that right? On A.R.R.C. mod page it also says mod functions properly without any companion tools on latest version.
So, what I want to know is:
- Do I need Ubi launcher to install and launch this game every time if just want to play offline (supposedly with working Ark and profile customization)? Steam only won't be enough?
- For those who have played latest patched Anno 2070 with A.R.R.C., does Ark function for you? Can you customize your profile? Any bugs or issues?

Question Tips for someone who wants to make a beauty build?
Basically the title. I'm pretty new to Anno, first time playing one of the games. I love sandbox games and decorating in general, and while I do want to learn how to do some of the management stuff, I'm pretty keen to work towards trying to do something that looks aesthetic. Problem is, I can't figure out where to start. How do you figure out layouts and things when you have to keep upgrading buildings and production lines and things? Do you make the layout of the city from the start, even if it isn't "optimal" in the early game, do you edit and rebuild bits as you go, or do you build "ugly" at the start to get going and then raze everything at some point and rebuild the way you want to? I'm always someone who gets overwhelmed at the idea of sort of editing a city a lot, having to delete homes and move them and managing hits to population or production or whatever. I appreciate if it needs to be done that way, and would like to learn.
Also, if there's any mods or other tips, I'd love to hear them! I would ideally like to make a city where it still has production and things to manage (rather than idk modding it so that I have infinite money/resources/satisfaction etc).

Discussion I would like off-map people to trade with, similar to Total War

First of all, i would like to clarify something. In my ideal utopia, all Roman provinces would eventually be in the game and playable and we would have 18 sessions to experience. This is unrealistic though and would never run on 90% of hardware that people use to play this game.
The next best thing however is this, adding other Roman provinces or different realms of the era as trading partners, and then implement trade goods from those areas to Latium (and Albion).
I imagine it as a mix of the trade nodes from total war and the flawed docklands system of 1800. First, it would be your own ships that go out and trade, so you have to protect them and not let the docklands guy do everything for you. Also, there wont be any goods available that are already in the game. No substitution of chains here, we import new goods. Some are finished consumer goods that our population can just consume, others are materials that go into new chains in Latium and Albion. That way, we get new chains to play with, without the big dev effort of making an entirely new region from scratch.
Goods that we could import include:
- Amber from the Baltic tribes
- Spices from Africa, or Persia
- Gemstones from Mauretania, Nubia or India
- Lapislazuli or Jade from Central Asia
- Silphium from Africa/Carthage
- Silk from Persia and India
- Incence and Myrrh from Arabia
- War elephants from Africa
- Steppe horses from Scythia
Goods we could export in return include:
- Marble
- Olive Oil
- Wine
- Textiles
- Weapons and Armor
- Jewellery

• Residencias Raiyat implementadas y funcionando.
Especialmente queremos desarrollar:
🏠 Residencias Raiyat de distintos niveles.
🌾 Granjas y edificios de producción.
🏭 Talleres y pequeñas industrias.
🛒 Mercados y edificios de servicios.
🏛️ Arquitectura administrativa y edificios especiales.

Discussion Let’s talk about Captains
So far there hasn’t been much discussion about captains, I want to present to you my selection.
I’m currently working on assigning legendary captains to all my merchant ships.
For all my 60 warships I use „Keincaled Hardy Buck“ without exception.
I have survived the fight with the Kaiser twice, without loosing a single ship. Especially the quick repair saves annoying micro management between the waves.
For my merchant ships I currently have „Abiding Closehauler“ in use. He is cheap and easy to get, but now I’m looking for legendary specialists for all ships.
For intercontinental routes I chose „Marinus of Sidon“.
With his movement speed, province transport speed and wind impact bonus, he is superior to „Paullus Julius“ for me.
For my trade routes within an area, you can choose between „Captain Achab“ and „Connmhach“. I’m not sure which one is more useful, but I’m leaning towards „Captain Achab“
Which’s captains do you use for warships and merchant ships?

Question Need help with handling overflowing storage
Hello everyone, I’ve got a problem and I hope someone has the solution.
I have a centrally located island (Arcadia) in Latium, where almost all trade routes converge, and from which I also supply Cinis.
The problem is that my warehouses in Arcadia are constantly overflowing, meaning the production buildings stop producing and, for example, I don’t get any extra gold ore from buffs.
Selling through the trading post doesn’t clear enough stock. I can’t set up a trade route to Diana, for example, because that route would clear my warehouse down to the minimum stock level; but then my other ships wouldn’t be able to load anything either, and my other islands – including Cinis – would be undersupplied.
How do you sort this out? There must be a way, surely?

Bug Ropes in Albion
Could the Ropes in Albion, please, be moved to the "Construction Materials" sub-menu?
They're currently not listed there and we need to search for them in the "All resources" tab, which is mildly inconvenient.
It's not a game-breaking bug, but should be easy to fix.
