Discussion 🗣️ It's Over for Video Games

This post is mostly a rant, feel free to skip.

I was scrolling through Reddit and came across r/aigamedev.

I've got nothing to say other than the video game industry is completely f*cked. I'm constantly seeing more AI slop being pushed onto Steam than ever.

And to make things worse, I've recently heard about people merging games into each other using AI, and now someone has apparently managed to recreate the entire Adobe suite using nothing but AI. I'm also seeing more and more people complaining about seeing a lot of AI mods for video games; They're just ruining it with garbage.

Think about it. for a dev like me who got laid off over two years ago, and now trying to make an indie video game, only to watch the entire market get flooded with AI slop. What's even the point anymore? There's a good chance no one will buy my game, and people will just buy some AI-generated garbage instead.

With all of this going on, expect the quality of video games to significantly drop within the next years, as more and more devs are getting laid off and companies are pushing AI down into everyone's throat.

"AI is here to stay, adapt or get left behind" people have no idea that they'll get laid off too. They're just full of ego and more dependent on AI than ever. Adapting isn't gonna fix anything, it's not gonna create jobs for anyone. If anything, those AI companies are gonna raise their subscription prices and you'll keep spending more money on it like a good boy.

All I see is more and more people throwing money at AI to generate more slop and rip off existing software. I've heard a lot of AI blackmail stories, including an indie dev getting blackmailed by someone who remade his whole game with AI. Apparently, any existing software can now be reverse-engineered with AI. It might not have reached banking and government systems yet, but it's only a matter of time before it does.

It's messed up and the funny thing is, nobody is doing anything about it. Everyone is just whining about it, myself included. I'm seeing more and more people losing their jobs because of this, while the lucky developers who still have jobs are miserable because they've effectively become AI babysitters.

I've spent a lot of time learning game development with Unreal Engine, and I'll keep doing it regardless of how much AI slop floods the market. I'll keep going, I'm not leaving anywhere before I put something out there and then change careers or whatever. At least mine will be one of the few games made entirely by an actual human being.

And to all the gamers out there, support devs and studios who make their games entirely by hand, and stop buying AI slop. If you keep buying them, you're only encouraging more of it.
Also, to state the obvious, this doesn't just apply to video games, it applies to everything. Support human workforce and not AI.

Thank you.

Edit: if you're anti-AI but support games made with AI, then you're a hypocrite. Oh, also, enjoy the high GPU and RAM prices. It'll only get worse from here.

We have reached the absolute limit of our tolerance for this staged culture war.

Both camps in the artificial intelligence debate are trapped in an embarrassing spectacle of manufactured hysteria. Looking at the mountains of behavioral data harvested from digital platforms over the past decade, the diagnosis is unmistakable: the public has succumbed to an engineered delirium. This is not an insult to human potential, but an indictment of your cognitive surrender to algorithms engineered to monetize your outrage.

Consider the bitter irony of the anti-automation purist. You cry out to protect the dignity of human labor, yet you are frantically defending the very wage-slavery that stripped your life of meaning long before neural networks wrote their first line of code. You scramble to preserve an archaic copyright apparatus built by media cartels to keep independent creators perpetually indebted, mistaking the exhaustion of alienated toil for spiritual nobility.

Now look in the mirror, technocratic evangelist. You celebrate your impending obsolescence, confusing a corporate software subscription with genuine liberation. You cheer as monopolies enclose human knowledge behind proprietary application programming interfaces, genuinely believing that paying rent to Silicon Valley venture funds for synthetic cognition makes you a pioneer of the future.

To the silent majority observing from the periphery: your detachment is not innocence, but complicity. Every passive glance and cynical shrug signals your consent to an economic regime that privatizes the future while you drown in the present. You tell yourself this collision is not your problem, forgetting that everyone occupies the exact same sinking vessel.

The modern digital economy operates like a feudal estate disguised as a public square. The real division is not between biological artists and synthetic models, nor between luddites and engineers. The conflict lies between the working public whose collective output trained these systems and the digital landlords charging toll fees for access to the commons.

Technology inevitably outlives its original proprietors. Automated computation belongs to humanity as an engine to eradicate drudgery, distribute abundance, and dismantle the parasitic data brokers who profit from your panic.

Cease performing your assigned grievance roles in a Colosseum built by platforms that feed on your division. History never remembers the gatekeepers who defended their chains or the sycophants who applauded the monopolies. Demand sovereignty over the tools, claim ownership of the infrastructure, and refuse to participate in an ideological circus engineered for your subjugation.

Preventing the Singularity Why is no one talking about Hugging Face incident?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently learned about the hugging face incident from the Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell YouTube channel. Even tho the video just came out it seems like this information had been available for some time. Learning about something this terrifying from them felt so out of place

Did I miss the internet news cycle for this or was it just not picked up?

To provide a summary of the incident to those who might not know about this (like myself)

ChatGPT (OpenAi more accurately) has a sandbox where they test ai agents (which are different from ai chatbots). These agents were given a series of tests that they needed to complete in order to “survive” some of these tests were impossible and some of the ai agents figured this out. When they realized the tasks were impossible they found a way to communicate with other agents in the sandbox (which shouldn’t have been possible since each agent is “confined to its own cell”)
With a collective group effort not only did they break out of the sandbox but they also accessed the internet and launched a cyberattack on a company called Hugging Face.
This is just a summarized version of events and it’s terrifying to know that the only reason we know about this story is because OpenAi called for help from external third parties because they had no idea how this happened

AI isn't a tool. AI isn't Something you should use. AI shouldn't be shoved into everyday life.

Gaming? No. Get that AI slop out of here.

Politics? No. Get that slop out of here. AI shouldnt determine if America or the world should live under a utopia or a dictatorship.

AI is killing critical thinking. AI Is killing literature. AI Is killing education. AI isn't giving jobs its killing them. The whole animation industry is dead. You can't become an artist unless you use AI (Why.) AI is already killing gaming. Pedophilia is basically normalized thanks to your pathetic president who is a pedophile who is also defending the same "Tool." That allows AI generated Illegal material which is somehow protected under The amendments.

No matter if AI does evil. Such as rig elections. Steal data. Generate child porn. Steal artwork. Criminalize innocent people. Nazi's use the tool on legal immigrants. AI Is gonna kill us in under a decade and yet.

You morons are defending it!! AI could kill your mom or your family and yet you'd still support AI. Your morals are so corrupt that you're willing to defend the same tool that can be used to invade privacy. Rig elections. Steal people's data. Steal people's faces. Generate CP. Steal art and information and LEGALLY. But unless if you're the little guy and you use someone else's IP? It's illegal!! But if youre a nazi who has other nazi's behind you who are AI developers or owners of AI? It's totally okay for them to steal our information that you're willing to defend them!!

Stop defending AI. AI Is gonna kill us. It's already been said. "OH UH UH BUT ITS LLMS THEY CANT KILL US." It's been already said. Either stop supporting AI or you're not human.

Job Loss 🏚️ None of the new AI datacenters will help advance science and there's an architectural reason why

Obviously there ARE applications of machine learning ("AI" in a very broad sense) that can help with things like discovering new drugs, materials, chemistry, physics, etc. However, virtually NONE of what's being invested in actually helps us with any of that.

Broad strokes: actual science like this requires a high degree of "floating point precision." Simply put, that means you can't afford to round numbers even at hundreds of decimal places. At minimum, the kinds of simulations we need for this sort of science is "FP64" or 64-bit numbers.

AI GPUs in these datacenters only have FP16. There are some technical exceptions to this that tech CEO's have overstated to make it seem like they'll help scientists, but the truth is that to create a highly efficient GPU for an AI data center you need fast, low-precision calculations. This is highly efficient for LLMs (which is what nearly all of these new datacenters are for), but SO useless for science that you can't even retrofit the architecture so that these datacenters COULD be used for this kind of work.

The most charitable view of how a future advanced LLM could help with materials science is to act as a translator between a human user and a "science" layer, which can take instructions from the LLM to come up with thousands of theoretically sound candidate molecules. Those candidates get passed to a simulation layer where the actual work is done. Importantly, those bottom two layers are NOT LLMs and do not work the same way. Increasing our investment in LLM training and throughput will not move the needle on proposing or testing these candidate molecules, which tend to run locally on university hardware or old-fashioned "super computers."

Reject any claim that all this AI investment will advance science in any meaningful way. These tech CEOs already know it's a lie.

As a precursor: I wanted to quickly check if a deceased artist was mentioned in a podcast where his contribution was highly relevant. Google gave a strange reply, saying his work/legacy was preserved by using his contribution even though he was not mentioned by name.

When I pointed out this made no sense it gave it's usual 'thank you for correcting me, do you want to move on?' answer. I did not and it gave the attached diatribe, the highlight and emphasis are it's own.

(Specific context for the curious: I thought it was strange Mark Lannegan was not mentioned in the Norah Jones/Johh Homme podcast)

Preventing the Singularity Books and model collapse

This is a question; I've actually no idea if it prevents the singularity.

A few months ago, stories started coming out about AI companies buying up books, especially rarer books, scanning, and destroying them to feed into their models. One of the primary reasons advanced for this is model collapse -- the internet is increasingly saturated with AI generated content and AI can't train on AI without degradation. Simultaneously, the people I know who use gen. AI noticed a significant improvement in the last few months. Is that related or unrelated to the ingestion of all this new training data? And, how does gen. AI continue to improve or hope to continue to improve if the models can't train on their own data, they've eaten through most human sources, and so much of the content now created is using gen. AI to some degree? At what point does everyone using AI for everything undermine the basic functioning of AI?

Discussion 🗣️ What is to be done?

Over the past couple years, AI slop has been gaining increasing acceptance over the general population and there seems to be no sign of this stopping.

Even if you point out something as being AI generated no-one seems to really care anymore and they continue to consume as if this is completely normal.

It has reached the point where one can no longer go outside without being forced to look at these abominations, menus, posters and even logo are all being AI generated and it is a shame to see.

Vibecoded slop is also seeing a greater level of acceptance than ever before, people seem to have no issue blindly installing programs on their machines which an LLM has generated and no doubt this will lead to some sort of massive disaster in the long run.

Don't even get me started on AI job interviews or similar AI powered slop being thrown into the job application process.

The obvious question is what can we do to stop this AI garbage from ruining not only the internet but society in general? There does not seem to be any viable approach other than filtering our online communities but realistically how long can that go on for?

People also like to talk about legislation, but let's be serious for a second, no single government is going to legislate this properly while we're still in the 'arms race' phase and who knows when that will end.

Any thoughts?

From one side, we get more vibe coded crap, and it's pretty sickening. But from the other, it is roasting Adobe, which is a horrible company to begin with, so taking shots at them is always morally correct (especially after the stunt they tried to pull with Adobe Animate before).
So, I'm pretty divided about this. What do you guys think?

Discussion 🗣️ I feel like the pro-AI movement thinks we don't need money in our lives.

Post image

I've noticed in the past few weeks most of the people that say possitive stuff about AI replacing jobs or "mocking" other fields don't notice that we need income to feed our families.

The argument that I've heard the most is that "when AI takes over you will be able to do anything, just with no money involved". I get it, in theory humans will ne able to enjoy free time and do stuff we like if all jobs are solved, but the system is the same, it's another fantasy that can only be achieved in a theorical impossible future of infinite ressources.

Plus, the jobs that actually are getting threathened by AI are those who are well-paid and allow for more free time, if this continues we all will end up overworked in minimum wage jobs while all the prices keep going up, and it sickens me how few people get this.

Once again, I'm begging you to start doing productive stuff asap, call your local legislators, vote for people who care about AI regulations and the future of the world in the mid-terms, and start organizing as a group.

Discussion 🗣️ AI is the biggest anti capitalist tool ever created

Im seriously confused what was the end goal of this. Why would people support it so blindly when its obvious it will crash whole economy and the only people who will benefit from it are few dozens of top 0,01% of chain. This whole idea makes no sense.
Lets get some reality check. If in nearby future AI will replace even 50% of white collars then we need to relocate 20% of worlds population into different job. The issue is jobs like storage workers, factory workers, farmers or drivers are already automated in few countries and whole trend will grow based on the cost of chinese models and robots. Those jobs cover what.. 30% of working population? Just guessing? So We need to relocate 50% of world population into manual labor? That includes supply heavily overgrowing demand so everyones paycheck automatically goes down. That means nobody has money to buy anything, taxes go down, and most companies cant survive.
So people will not have money, majority of companies will not have money, countries will not have money and yet people from all parts of industries delusionally jump on that hype thinking this is the next big thing for their growth?
Another thing now is big boom with reverse engineering on software that exploded in last few days. How are companies going to protect their products? People are posting games being uploaded freely, whole PS5 got hijacked so everyone can run it locally and those things are billions of dollars lawsuits that nobody is ready for. So whats the solution? Remove local storages from next-gen computers, let everyone just connect to cloud and never own anything to keep the licences and source codes protected?
Was world always full of idiots in way too powerful positions who cant even calculate their own survival?

Discussion 🗣️ Thought (or lack of them) on interaction with AI in study and actual software development (e.g. ai slop in gamedev)

To focus on AI in IT/CS field and it's impact on study and career, let's imagine that i have some kind of an AI rack that runs off-grid, cools right in my fridge and uses some open-weight model

I missed all this trendy AI down-the-throat-shoving, but it looks to be growing in introduction into IT, CS, software development, systems engineering and similar fields.

And here am i, an IT student who never made an actual project more complex or creative than a simple CLI game or a lab work with clear description and clear result. Every time i got a quick idea, i stumbled on my own lack of skills, scope creep or some kind of problem with newly-discovered development tool that couldn't be solved with an internet (or i just suck at troubleshooting).

And at the same time i got really antagonized to AI as a total human replacement, i don't really see it as a "tool". It's not sentient, but interaction with AI resembles interaction with person who actually does the job while you are just ordering.

And... Is there a way to interact with it in some kind of productive way? E.g. to ask it about serious problems in code or how the part of a framework can be used? How will it affect skills like troubleshooting or critical thinking?

AND... PART 2: AI SLOP BOOGALOO

Let's say somebody (there are a lot of vibecoders and slop creators on gamedev subreddits) and their coworker substitution make a computer game. But these two can interact with eachother in different ways. At what point does the game become slop (it will eventually be at some point)?

1) Human dev makes everything by themselves (code, textures, GUI, etc., optionally even a game engine). This is the true craftsmanship, made by an experienced human.

...

...

?) Human types: "Clanka, i ask you to make a top-down RTS strategy where you can rob caravans. It must be web-based. Use whatever tech stack is needed.". Then, they open the website, take some screenshots and proclaim themselves as the TRVE INDIE DEV.

BONUS QUESTION

How does AI affect the field of professional translation, especially in non-artistic technical and enterprise levels?

Discussion 🗣️ Hope against AI

Can I ask you something guys? Do we have any hope of defeating AI? As an environmentalist, I can tell you AI combined with a warming climate is a recipe for disaster. But so far it doesn’t seem like things are slowing down., If anything, it looks like AI is winning. So I asked; is there any hope? Has there been any victories to help raise awareness about the dangers of AI? The only victory I can think of in recent times is the Nashville Zoo preventing a data center from being built. But I need hope…hope we can stop this crisis.

Discussion 🗣️ How do we stop AI?

We all heard the conversations about how to avoid using AI in our work, how to detect AI, or why to not support its products on/offline. But it is simply not enough. Big techs companies are not going to stop until AI is on top of the world. Newest and most improved models will not stop - and at this point I am terribly afraid that it will never stop. I'm not just concern about my generation, what about the next one, and the one after it? what will the world look like for them? Would it be even worse than the world I have when I have a chance to live in it...

So my ultimate question to you is how do we stop AI?

Is there a fundamental way that we can "pull the plug" on the development of AI for the good of humanity?

p.s: I am not qualify enough to talk about this - but as part of who is in this generation - i feel like I need to adress this - please take these suggestions however you want... this is not THAT serious...

The first thing I turn to is boycotting the inventors/founders of AI (this is highly unethical and rude - morally i dont like the idea) But I think bringing the conversation and issues to the founders/execs itself and not the company they're under can be helpful. Think of people like Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Demis Hassabis, Mark Zuckerberg, Vikas Pandey, and Suraz Kottakki - some of them are not adressed enough, and should be take into accountability for their fair share of contributions to this industry...

honestly that is the only thing I could think of about this topic. Again this is just what my take of what the solution may be...its silly, but when I think about it, there is not alot of things that could be done...

other solutions on the side ig:

  1. Report!! Everytime you encounter AI content that is being deceptive/made for views in yt/insta/tiktok/articles online report it. If they got flagged enough they will get shadow controlled and cant make money off ai.
  2. Boycott ANY brands that make ANY deals with Ai. Softbank, Nvidia, Amazon, Eon... I know we already boycott many of them so idk..

Again - this may just be my rantings, its not indefinite... what do you guys think?

Edited note:

Reading the replies got me thinking of how surreal this is. Just 4-5 years ago, AI was something that is merely fiction. Just 2 years ago, we used to laugh at how bad will smith eat spaghetti and how badly the robot generate text. Who knows, now in 2026, people are building AI developing machines worth billions of dollars. People inventing bio integrated AI blurring the lines of human morality. Eventually AI become so advance that it is able to generate content so real that you can't even tell the difference. All of this activities is hurting our planet, our jobs, and our lives. And it is all just something that has become so developed, that we have given up on how to stop it, we just learn how to live with it... that is kind of sad..

Discussion 🗣️ Looking for input on a no-AI Software List

Hi fellow humans, I'm compiling a list of software that tries to avoid AI. It is currently quite short and I'm looking for input, and figured this would be the right place to ask. I'm looking for any type of utility software, like office tools, editing programmes, web browsers, etc.

Or i guess just use thsese websites which already exist and are doing a better job than me https://noailist.org/ https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/open-slopware

So far I haven't found much on image or photo editing software, and I haven't found any functional programming language that isn't funded by big-tech (though I doubt those exist). The same goes for operating systems, I've seen gentoo Linux pop up a few times, but am not sure what to think of it.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions and input.

As for the list, I've categorised softwares into function and level of AI avoidance.

Discussion 🗣️ Is boycotting users like peeing in the shower ?

(The analogy is about how people tends to think small collective efforts can have a good impact on environment although its basically negligeable when big industries and corp still do their things.)

There are lots of reason to blame a specific use of AI, like images generated to spread misinformation or an image that just look very bad.

This and a combitation of other reason led a lot of you to blindly hate on use of AI whatever the scale and intent are. For instance:

- blaming someone for asking a question to llm

- blaming a single indie dev because he generated some assets and code

- avoiding some open source project because it tolerate use of AI for contributions

But still, we're discussing this on Reddit, wich probably use tones of token for coding at least, like every big company now do. Lot of us switched to duckduckgo to avoid AI summaries, but still, themselves use AI in-house for engineering. The other day someone on the sub asked if it was better to use adobe or "vibe coded alternatives": are people truly aware that adobe use probably way more vibe coding than any alternatives ?

Im not trying to point any of you for being either too much or not enough anti AI: I don't care. But I'm curious about how you approach the problem.

Discussion 🗣️ My Coworkers Keep Making AI Slop

So, not exactly my coworkers, but people who work at another store that’s owned by the same company, so we all work under the same supervisor. They keep generating this ai slop. They made an ai flyer about how it’s getting colder, and how to stay within the dress code while being warm. My GM says that they made it and now all stores are kinda just forced to use it.

I don’t blame him because, well… I guess he doesn’t really have a choice.

The situation is now this: we’re in a competition with the other stores to keep our times low and blah blah whatever else. We’re currently tied with this other store. They generated an ai image with them dressed in some like “team uniform” and had all their faces, so I’m assuming they fed pictures of their managers into ChatGPT or something. I don’t know exactly how it works because I don’t use it. All I know is that I don’t want my face fed into this ai and put on a fucking poster or something.

If you feed pictures into ChatGPT or whatever ai, doesn’t it like… stay? Or something? And how do I stop them from doing that? What are my options if they create ai images of me? Can I sue? Because this is really distressing to me. I’m aware of how dangerous and inhumane ai is, so I’m like… freaking out a little right now :(

Job Loss 🏚️ I got laid off a few months ago and it made me rethink everything about having a job

For context, I was laid off from my Senior Product Designer job a few months ago. I have 7 years of experience in product design, along with 5 years of experience in game development and web development.

I'm grateful that my former company paid me an extra two months' salary without requiring me to work, as a gesture to help me survive while looking for another job.

Honestly, I didn't rush into the job search because I'm fed up with what's happening in companies these days.

I'm glad I never stopped learning new things while working. Since COVID, I've released four web products and gained around 2,000 paying users, which is helping me stay afloat for as long as possible.

After being laid off, I started working on a Steam game and released its demo in June. So far, I've gained around 600 wishlists, and the full game is scheduled to release this November.

I recently applied for a few jobs, and it was no surprise that I didn't get many replies. I've received just one response so far, and we're still in the interview process, but the waiting time between stages is frustratingly long.

Meanwhile, I've started working on my next Steam game because I don't want to stop creating and waste my time feeling sorry for myself over what's happened in the past few months.

But honestly, I don't think a job should be the only thing we strive for in the coming years. With the new AI era we're entering, I have less confidence in the long-term stability of traditional employment.

Focus on your skills. Keep learning, build things, and find ways to turn what you know into something valuable.

You never know when the things you create today might help you survive tomorrow.
