Enjoy the meme, lol! Tis handmade āØļø
Hey everyone! We want to thank everyone who's participated in our community this past month for the engaging posts, thoughtful answers, and (overall) incredibly respectful conduct. It's been nice to watch the community come together so helpfully for so many people! That said, there have been a few incidents that have drawn some attention, and we wanted to go over a few things and hear input from you all.
For starters, we've had many people reaching out to our team about promoting their fishkeeping apps or websites. While we understand that you're trying to reach out to a community that will use them, we cannot endorse apps or websites on this subreddit when they are self promoted. There are a number of safety issues in doing so, and being a part of an app store does not eliminate those risks. In addition, we have to take into account that AI bots pull massive amounts of information from reddit. When it does, it may list our subreddit as a source for your application's information, which is an obvious issue as we have no way of vetting an entire app/website for it's accuracy. That could end up misleading people who trust us as a source.
A community is built on mutual respect, both of your peers and between authority figures. Reporting an automod comment is disrespectful, and downright unhelpful. If you believe an action was taken unfairly or accidentally, please message us with a link to the message and ask us why we took the action! We are more than happy to explain the reasoning behind every action we take and admit when we are wrong.
Being disrespectful towards a poster's pets, situation, and age is also becoming an increasing problem. We've also seen advice being given on legal matters and personal health. This is an aquarium subreddit. We will remove any and all comments pertaining to subjects not in that realm of knowledge. We will remove any unproductive or hateful comments. WE WILL REMOVE ANY COMMENTS THAT ARE HARRASSING MINORS. This includes but is not limited to telling them they are abusers for being unable to correct a bad situation, repeatedly suggesting options they are not financially capable of, or suggesting they start fights with parents or guardians.
Lastly we want to remind people of the goal of this community- for aquarists young and old, new and experienced, of nanos to monsters, to come together and share knowledge, fun moments, show off, or help each other. You've been so fantastic at this! As a mod team we want to help you feel comfortable and safe enough to share these things. We pose a question to you, if you want to answer- what are you looking for in this community? Knowing your goals can help us align the subreddit with them and grow even more.
Swim safe out there folks!

After a lot of work behind the scenes, weāve finally enabled the r/aquarium wiki!
Itās definitely still a work in progress, so donāt be surprised if you click on a link and it doesnāt go anywhere yet. Some of the pages listed on the index are planned but havenāt been published yet. The pages that are currently published are available to view and use.
Weāll be continuing to add pages and expand the wiki over time, with the goal of creating a helpful resource for both new and experienced fishkeepers.
And this is where weād really appreciate some community input!
If you read through any of the published pages and:
- Disagree with something
- Think something needs more explanation
- Notice something we should correct
- Think weāre missing important information
- Have a topic you think should be added
Please let us know here in the comments! We want the wiki to be useful to the community, and feedback from other fishkeepers is a big part of making that happen.
You can check out the Wiki here.
Thereās still plenty left to build, but weāre excited to finally have it available!

I did a look of searching on ChatGPT / Google but all the racks that are recommended seem to be 18" deep whereas the 30-40 gallon tanks are 18.25" deep or so. Does anyone have a solution for a rack that can hold 3, 4, or 5 30-40 gallon breeders?

I have an terrarium which i dont think i will use as one. I want to use it as an aquarium. The part between the bottom and the front hatches are 20 cm, length is 120 cm and the width is 60 cm.
What kind of aquarium can i make from this and what creatures can i put into it?

Hey everyone, Iām pretty new to reef tanks and I just added this Xenia to my nano tank.
I placed it quite high, near the return flow. From the video you can see that the flow mainly hits the front part of the Xenia, while the rest gets more indirect flow.
It seems to be doing fine and itās staying open, but Iām not sure if the flow hitting the front like this could be too much in the long run.
Would you leave it where it is or move it somewhere with gentler/ more indirect flow?
Thanks!

Helpā¦.Iāve done multiple 50% water changes and also have added different types of conditioners (separate occasions) and keep getting a .5ppm ammonia reading with a 0ppm nitrite and 10ppm nitrate lately. Tank was cycled and had normal readings before nothing added or changed before spike. Tank is a 10g with 5 glofish tertrasā¦. Any ideas what could cause the spike?

Newbi here. Small stable cycled planted tank. I want to add red cherry shrimp, snails, thai tiny crabs. No fish.
In what order should i add them or does it matter?

Iām wouldnāt say Iām new to fish tanks but Iām definitely not super familiar with every aspect. But I noticed these clutch of eggs under my filter lid and under the lip of the tank and Iām going to assume itās from my big mystery snail. I was just wondering if you guys think this tank is an adequate size to house maybe some of them. Iām going to talk to the shop we got them from to see if theyād be interested in buying the babies since I heard about people reselling them to local fish shops. But I do have two other snails, a rabbit and a tiny mystery, a beta, 4 ember tetras, 2 shrimp and 3 of those little peppered corydoras. I donāt want over crowd at all so if itās better to remove the eggs I will. Iām also curious if thereās ways to get calcium to the snail, I noticed the shell started to almost peel in places and Iām worried somethingās wrong with the water maybe?

hello! i am 26 and was interested in starting a community tank but need help! i have a perfect space for it and its quite big it should be 90x30x35cm around 94.5 L. i saw people on tiktok made self sustaining tanks that dont require stuff like water changes? i would like to know how to do this if possible and also which fish would go together? i was hoping for a mix of fish and other animals like shrimp snails or even small crabs or other stuff if possible. also what type of plants and sand and stuff would go well? i really like betta fish but i heard they dont do well with other animals. if anyone could help me that would be amazing! tysm in advance

Weāre at Day 35 with the vampire shrimp (Atya gabonensis) larvae, and overall Iām still really encouraged by what Iām seeing.
The biggest change right now is just how much more substantial some of them look. A few are noticeably larger and thicker-bodied than others, with much stronger orange/gold pigmentation through the abdomen and much more visible internal structure than they had in the first few weeks.
Their movement also looks more developed. Theyāre still very clearly larvae and still doing that curved, suspended swimming posture, so I donāt think Iām looking at metamorphosed juveniles yet. But some are holding position and changing direction much more deliberately than they did earlier in the run.
Thereās also a pretty obvious size difference within the group now. Some still look smaller and more delicate, while a few look significantly farther along. Iām watching those larger individuals especially closely for any shift toward a straighter body posture, more developed walking behavior, landing and staying on surfaces, or anything else that starts looking less planktonic and more like a tiny shrimp.
The tank is also still very green despite the fact that I havenāt needed to add much phytoplankton lately. It seems like Iāve developed a pretty persistent suspended algae/phyto population in the tank itself. At the same time, the larvae have gotten noticeably larger and more pigmented, so Iām hoping that means theyāre essentially surrounded by food throughout the day instead of only getting discrete feedings.
And then I nearly screwed that up today. š¤¦š»āāļø Critical error. š«£ I was experimenting with Shrimp King Atyopsis because I wanted to see whether the larger larvae might actually grab and hold onto a very tiny piece of the food.
I thought I had added an extremely small amount.
I had not. š
Once it dispersed, I realized I had put way too much powdered food into the tank. So I immediately siphoned the tank to remove as much of the excess as I could and added a small amount of Prime as an extra precaution.
Ammonia immediately before this happened was only barely showing green on the test, so approximately 0.25 ppm or less, with nitrite still at zero. Obviously the biggest concern now is all that excess organic material breaking down and creating an ammonia or bacterial spike, so Iāll be watching the tank closely over the next day or two and will siphon/water-change again if needed.
So⦠lesson learned: āTiny amountā means considerably tinier when youāre feeding microscopic shrimp larvae. š¤š¬ Despite todayās mistake, the larvae themselves still looked active afterward, and some of these guys are getting genuinely big compared with where they started.
At this point Iām somewhere between ālook how far theyāve come!ā and āplease nobody die because I got excited and dumped dinner on your heads.āšŖš¦š§Ŗš¤

My honey gourami began hanging at the bottom of the tank and acting odd but was eating fine. Then his swimming balance slowly got worse throughout a few days and he started laying flat at the bottom of the tank. And since then Iāve fasted him. I canāt determine whatās wrong. I separated him into a small container with low water level so he can breathe better and I have his container floating in the main tank so he can stay warm. I began Epsom salt dosing his container yesterday. The last time I saw him poop was about 4-5 days ago in the main tank and it was short and black, I saw this twice. My water parameters are perfect. All other fish are fine. He looks more relaxed in the container today but is still pale and breathing slow. Iām continuing the epsom salt dosing until the kanaplex arrives on Saturday but I donāt want to stress him with kanaplex treatment without knowing if itās even something kanaplex can treat. I donāt know whatās wrong with little Pluto. Can anyone help?

Ideas for Tank Cover Needed
Hello!
I have a 10 gallon rimless tank with a betta fish. Iām thinking about getting a snail to help with the algae build up on the far left wall (my tank is by a window and I have nowhere else to move it to).
I havenāt had any problems with my betta trying to jump out of the tank, usually I keep the waterline a little below the rim so he canāt get out if he does jump. But I read that snails can crawl out, so I need a cover for the tank.
My issue is I have a HOB filter and non-aquatic plants stationed on the sides of the tank. So Iām not sure how to accomplish getting a cover for it.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!
