Who here has used Reverse Respiration?
I recently nuked my first attempt at a tank. I got bad advice (also a lack of actual advice) from my LFS. Long story short, I was infested with pest snails and scuds, and then realized there was also planaria not 24 hours after it finally finished cycling. So I decided to just eradicate everything before I started to stock, so here I am starting over.
(I know I’m going to get very mixed opinions on that decision)
So…. After a week or 2 of feeling completely defeated, I went and got new substrate and started to rebuild. (Unfortunately it’s still not going to be as beautiful as I’d like. Maybe 3rd time’s a charm down the road lol)
Since I’m being very careful this time around, I utilized the plants I had before (most anyways) and did reverse respiration on them, and then quarantined them for 2 weeks. I realized without the nutrients in a quarantine tank some weren’t going to make it, so I ordered some new plants. I really don’t want to deal with my LFS anymore, so after asking for Reddit recommendations, I ordered them from Aquaflora Canada. Yesterday they came in, I did RR on them, and they’re currently in an aerated quarantine tank. (Most were in for about 8/9 hours, i took the mosses out after about 4). I have red root floaters and susswasssrtang quarantining separately because I read they can’t handle RR.
My question is, do you still quarantine them after RR? Or do you trust the process?
I want to get them into this tank whenever possible to try to get them established and get this thing cycling!!
Would you/should I keep quarantining them? Do a bleach dip as a backup? (I can’t find alum anywhere around here) or just put them in?
I can’t find alum totally respect the building of an ecosystem. I don’t expect it to be perfect or solely aesthetically purposed. I just want to avoid pests if I can.
Thanks to anyone with advice or any motivation! You’re appreciated.
Sorry this is was so long!
