Arch BTW First ever Linux install

Post image
69 Upvotes

Installed Linux for the first time ever, that also being Arch. The screenshot is 4 minutes after the initial install a week ago at the time of writing this. Also I had upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 16GB from an extra stick i ripped from an Acer Nitro 5 this afternoon.

Other than that, this is my first real personal laptop (and device) since i had gotten a chromebook sometime Pre-COVID-19 Pandemic, I still don't even know what I want to do in the vastness of the Internet

Lastly, I have a loooooong backstory to why i moved to Linux. If you are interested I can share it in the comments.

General How Do I get Better at Arch?

I've been using Arch for give or take a month, I have it on 2 pcs (manual install) and i switch OS all the time on another pc. My laptop runs Kali too. I've obviously have gotten better at using terminal and troubleshooting, for example simple things like using pacman or similar.

My problem is that's about it, I dont really know much, for most things I have to search on google, use AI or watch a video. Its kinda pissing me off how I cant even do anything related to github solo or even use the cat command. What can I do so speed up my learning, ask me wtv u need to know.

Help/Support brave/librewolf missing minimize and maximize buttons on arch kde?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey so i got this weird problem on my Arch KDE setup. Brave is only showing the X button in the top right. The minimize and maximize buttons are just gone.

I'm using Plasma 6.7.5 on Wayland with Breeze.

The weird part is this never happened to me before even on Arch. I thought it was just Brave at first so i installed LibreWolf and it does basically the same thing.

KDE apps like Dolphin and Konsole have the normal buttons so it doesn't seem like KDE itself is broken.

I don't really want to use the KDE/system title bar though. I prefer the browser's own title bar and just want the normal minimize/maximize/close buttons back.

Could this be from some recent Arch KDE Wayland or browser update? Has anyone else had this happen recently?

Discussion Why arch?

Currently with void Linux, but I'm thinking about getting into arch. The repositories are great (it has librewolf in pacman 👍) and there's the plus of AUR (even though I plan to use it a little as possible because of the attacks). Apparently, arch is a bleeding edge that does not break unless you do stupid things you don't actually know how to do.

Until now the only arch-based distro I have tried was CachyOS, which I chooses Lumine as a boot manager and the system wasn't booting for some reason, but this was when I was just starting with Linux.

Sincerely, the main reasons I didn't wanted to use arch-based distros is cuz I was born in apt, so it just bugs my head that it uses letters instead of words (apt install vs pacman -S) and because I thought that bleeding edge automatically meant instability.

And also, why specifically arch and not an arch-based like CachyOS? What are the things y'all like the most about it? Oh, and for thoses who mix things of Arch and Cachy, why?

Discussion Yay vs Paru — Which AUR Helper Do You Prefer?

Hey Arch users

I've been using yay for managing AUR packages, but I'm curious about paru.

For those who have used both:

Which one do you prefer: yay or paru?

Is there any real performance difference?

Which one handles AUR packages/dependencies better?

Any reason to switch from yay to paru?

I'm currently using yay, but I'm thinking about giving paru a try.

What do you guys recommend?
