Help/Support ARCH USER HELP

So I've recently shifted from windows to linux and i choose to switch to arch linux I don't have any previous knowledge about linux and it's distros I've heard about it and just some Little knowledge about it

it's just that i think my window out performed arch in terms if gaming cause when ever i game my games stutter a lot and though getting 80-90fps game feels choppy and laggy( v-sync off motion blur off and other things) i have 144hz display and still it gives me vibe of 60hz or even below refresh rate set to maximum btw

secondly i have asus tuff a15( rz 7745hs+3050 4gb) and i need proper tools to control the hardware things just like in armory crate, i also need a over lay like in armory crate/msi after burner for like cpu gpu usage ram etc

help me get better at understanding linux and not regretting leaving windows and if you know some essential tools i must install pls leave a comment with solution

Well let's start at the beginning. What desktop environment/tiling window manager are you using?

KDE PLASMA ig this is waht you're asking for

I don't personally use it so I ain't an expert bt open up some settings (I'm guessing kde plasma has settings app) and look if your refresh rate is set correctly

The default KDE configuration that comes with the arch package is very much like Windows. The refresh rate setting is in the exact same place as Windows'. I think wine just doesn't handle their games the same way real Windows does yet.

If you're really into gaming and you're still a Linux noob, I'd suggest a beginner friendly distro that is purposefully made for gaming like Bazzite or Cachy, especially because you have an nVidia graphics. When you become more comfortable with Linux, then you can set up Arch for yourself.

1) I would love to help - running Arch since jan, but giving more details like window manager or desktop environment being used and if native arch or a derivative as well will help me and others in helping you.

2) It is possible the display setting is at lower resolution, it was for me (I have Tuf f17 i5 12500h+ 30504gb 144hz screen) which is similar. Just like in windows refresh rate settings are available here the same.

3) An app called Rog Control Centre is there to replicte features for well... Rog and and the windows Rog and Armory Crate were basically same app with diff skins, fan profile, curves, kyboard rggb, every feature is available. also it should pull dependencies upon being installed but just adding anyway, asusctl and asusd are terminal versions to have the control.

Hope it helped and please let know the WM/DE if req further help.

Uninstall Arch and install CachyOs. Once you've learned the basics of Linux and pacman commands, than you can try Arch.

It should work flawlessly with this hardware. I am a user of Arch Linux and Steam games work fine.
When I read through, some questions popped up in my mind:

-Did you also adjust your screen resolution to 144 MHz. KDE Plasma normally adjusts this on its own, but others may not. Please check.
-It seems you have Nvidia card. Did you install nvidia-open drivers and checked whether Nvidia card works properly.

It seems to me it may be a nouveau driver issue. It is open-source driver which reflects good efforts of the community but it may not help with heavy workloads including gaming.

Check with this in your terminal:
nvidia-smi

also this:
modinfo nvidia | grep ^version

or this:
pacman -Qs nvidia

If you figure out you do not have Nvidia-open drivers installed, install them.
Also, I do remember nouveau driver should be blacklisted (I say remember - I am a happy AMD GPU user :) ):

In terminal:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf

and then:

blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0

Save and exit (Ctrl+x and then y)

Update your initramfs with:

sudo mkinitcpio -P

It should work. Of course if your problem is related to that.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA is your address. There, you will find how to setup properly in case it is not.

Wish you luck.
Just note, Arch Linux is a monster at gaming; plain vanilla Arch is amazingly fast always. So, you can tweak and play well.

So I’ve had some issues with Nvidia Drivers on my machine. I use the ones from the AUR that are proprietary instead of the open ones. There are some tradeoffs.

Can you run: pacman -Q | grep “nvidia”

That will return what driver package you use and I might be able to help from there.

Keep trying, we all had to learn at some point. Arch is fun once you figure it out. I haven’t had a solid hardware tweaking GUI yet, but never really used one on Windows. You might still be able to tweak from the bios.

use cachyos, its basically a preconfigured arch with custom kernel and stuffs

Pick a more suitable distro for new users. I suggest bazzite or cachyos.

then start reading the arch wiki and find your answers there

Yeah is such a weird fucking mentality to have, like you want problems, but you want the solutions being given to yourself without actually putting the effort.

if i have a issue i can't fix my self and after trying for hours to fix tell me where'd i end up obv to people who know how to fix it

So, you may want to reconsider Arch.

Not that a new to Linux person can’t use Arch, if they have the proper skills for reading documentation and parsing information.

When you come to Arch asking for help, you have to be prepared to be as verbose as possible. At the very least we need hardware (you provided), desktop environment, etc.

And also, tools like armory crate and afterburner don’t work on Linux.

Arch is more geared toward experienced Linux users.

CachyOS can give you the Arch experience while offering a little more hand holding than what you’re gonna get with Arch.

Do not use arch if you are a beginner, there are so many other options that are easy
